Looking for like minded women age 50+! I hope to start losing soon but realistically with Thanksgiving and Christmas it may be a run up to launch in Jan 2021 😄! But I do want to get serious now and get the structure in place in the next few weeks. Anyone want to join me? 👋

@cantine66 how are you doing it? What diet plan or exercise plan are using? Any tips or advice?6

Hello Ladies, Just joined today & trying to figure out this app! Would love joining a group of ladies over 50. I agree Thanksgiving & Christmas food wise will be challenging but I’m ready for the work to begin!12
-
Welcome Linda! I am new too, with this app. We can struggle together! Let’s make a change, not start a diet!! 😄6
-
Count me in, interested in joining this group to help support each other!4

Hi Ladies! I just started this week. I'm at the beginning of a 100 lb weight loss. The mental shift to doing it slow and steady is starting to sink in.10
-
I'm not new, but I've been way off plan since covid became a thing (way back in March) and have gained some but mostly just been off my exercise plan (depressingly out of shape) and eating poorly, quite the opposite of how I planned to spend my first year in my 50s. Will be 51 in December and ready to get serious again and make 2021 a peak fitness year, and would love to support others too. Welcome everyone who is new.12

I'm not new to MFP but I am NEW; New mindset, new commitment, new attitude, new priorities. I have been looking for a 50+ group, so I would love to join.11

This might be the place to ask some like minded ladies:
Is anyone weighing their food? I just bought a scale, it’s set to grams but where do I find how much everything should weigh? Like proteins and veggies etc? I have looked on internet and can’t find too much. I am on a 1600 calories macro meal plan, I think. Do I sound new and helpless??? Hahaha...help, is anyone can. 😁4 -
I weigh. It's not that things should weigh a certain amount (although if you have, say, a box of pasta and want to weigh out a serving you can weigh the amount defined as a serving on the box), but that using the weight is a slightly more accurate way to determine the cals. You weigh and then log that weight on MFP.
For whole foods, the best entries on MFP are the ones taken from the USDA site, also (the syntax tends to be something like "carrots, raw" or "chicken, breast, meat only, cooked, broiled") and those will always have lots of unit options, including 100 grams. So if you have 85 g of carrots, you'd log 0.85 for the 100 gram serving. For boxed stuff, you'd find the entry consistent with the information on your package and log the amount you used (so if you weigh 48 g of dried pasta and the box has 56 g = 1 serving = 200 cals, you'd log 48/56 of a serving or 0.86).
I was skeptical about weighing initially, but now enjoy it, and often see how close I can eyeball it as a game. For a while at maintenance I wasn't logging at all, but would still sometimes use the scale instead of measuring cups when cooking or to determine what a reasonable amount would be.
If you are just thinking of how to plan a meal, I'd use the amount you think seems reasonable based on what you like to eat, and then see what the cals are. Meats are typically 3 oz/serving, but I typically eat more, depending on what else I am having and where I am with respect to my protein and cal goals (it depends on the specific meat), and for veg it depends on the dish or if it's a side and how many different veg I am having in a meal (85 g raw is roughly a serving for anything but greens, I think for greens it's 2 cups raw, if you are trying to count servings).5 -
I am a retired teacher, over 60, but I want a long life with fitness, family, and fun. I cannot get over board with monitoring food while being quarantined. It is difficult. I am putting my larger meal in the middle of the day so I do not eat carbs as a grazer. So , breakfast is egg, some spinach, orange juice, skim milk, and maybe a mini bagel. I put protein at lunch with broiled chicken, corn, a side salad, and a teeny dessert to remind myself I am human. A banana bite is okay once in a while. I am losing weight without a crazed obsession , and recording food in myfitness. So far, so good. And yes, you should all want to live a long life with fun in it .....4

I’ll be 50 in January, so that counts, right?
I lost 60 lbs with MFP a couple of years back. Gained back 35 before I realized what was happening, so here I am.
I’m on a 1-lb-per-week deficit, prioritizing fruit and veg. Daily walks, plus a little balance work and bodyweight exercise. Keeping it simple and easy enough to make a habit of it.
I’m a stress eater so stress reduction and healthier coping mechanisms will be critical to my long term success.

I do not weigh, however, I do use a color container method of eating that helps control portions. Something I ordered through a program that I use. I considered purchasing a scale to weigh but I found the other method and it works very well for me which I think is key, finding what works well for you. I also use the reports on here to keep track of exercise and calories burned. I really love looking at the data for each week and it helps me to know how much exercise I need to create that weight loss I am looking for.3

Hey girl! There is a lot of great info if you scan through the "Getting started" forums I do weigh my food. It is a game changer! A serving in grams should be on containers. Just verify it matches up to whatever entry you are using. How much you should be eating depends on your own personal calorie goals. For produce, you can look for USDA entries in the food database here. Those entries should be pretty accurate2 -
@MicheleWeiss617 I had to go into the Health app on my iPhone and set it up there. To be honest, I had to use a YouTube video to show me...lol4

@naughtoncarol231 I was the exact same!! Kinda depressing go isn’t it? I did a whole week of not changing my meals and recorded everything. I was over by 1000 or more each day. Going to be totally honest here, it really disgusted me. So the next day I cut out one thing that stood out on the daily tracker. Then tell things the day after and slowly I am down to only 100-200 over. I am still trying to figure out the portion and macro parts but a start is a start. So I am behind the whole way, we can do this slow start together!!

Hi everyone! Wow thank you so much for joining me, I am excited to hear everyone's stories and the methods and good habits you are adopting. To anyone feeling depressed, isolated and just down on yourself for any reason, we are here for you! This has been such a hard year but the end is finally in sight in 2021. In the meantime focus on caring for yourself, know you are lovable and can reach your goals with the small decisions you take everyday.
My story is I am 52. At 48 I lost 30lb and was exercising and weight training at least 3 times a week. My #1 Goal was health and to be a good role model for my three teens, especially my 2 girls. I wanted to enter my later life strong, active and healthy. I was feeling great and so proud of myself! My trainer was 65 and she did triathlons! So she was my role model. I had another 5lb to meet my goal weight I was very active and had gone down 2 dress sizes.
In Nov 2017 my 11 yr old son was diagnosed with cancer. He recovered with surgery and no chemo. In June 2018 I was diagnosed with cancer!!! Can you believe it? Within 6 months of each other? I was super healthy and started developing back pain in May. Within 6 weeks I was diagnosed with lymphoma in my spine and bones and could hardly walk. I had to be on bedrest for 6 months while I had chemo.
I am now cancer-free and almost totally recovered. I still am taking some pain killers which I want to come off and my energy is increasing each day. I put on all the weight I lost from sitting around for 2 years! So I am determined to get back to where I was. If I can do it at 48/9 I can do it at 52!!!
My 17 yr old daughter is a Senior and studying at home. She just lost 20lbs under my nose without me noticing as she was wearing sweats each day 😄. So she is making meals for both of us. We are using Blogilates 90 day meal plan. I had never heard of Cassey but apparently she is massively popular. She is younger than us so may not be your thing. Her recipes are great (they were formulated with a dietician) we are doing the 90 day Vegetarian plan but she has options for meat eaters, pescatarians and vegans. Here is the link and you can page down to the bottom to see the options. It's $59 for the 90 day plan with recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks plus shopping lists for the week.

P.S. I started on Monday (2 days ago) and have already lost 2lbs!!2

Wow your story is so inspiring and my heartfelt congratulations to you and your son for beating cancer.
My story is somewhat less eventful, but it’s my own story so I carry it proudly.
Happily married for 23yrs and have 3 kids who are all in their teens and twenties now.
One day my mom got sick and 3 weeks later she passed, about a month after that I decided I was going to leave my husband. We had lost the spark and grown apart.
Toughest 5 years of my life . Here I am today, still me sing fences with kids and my heart but happy. Found love again and life is getting better. Even my ex and I are friends. Was heavy after all 3 kids, stayed heavy for years. Too busy to care kind of.
Lost 36 lbs when my mom passed and kept it off for a few years. Found love again and dating and of course that revolves around food and wine. I am back up to be heavier than I was in my unhappy years. So I want to be healthy, active, lose it the right way to keep it off, build an exercise routine that I can stick to and love.
That’s me in a nutshell- just add sarcasm and sense of humour! 🤪🥰6 -

Hello I'm Nicolette, I had a health scare in August and have decided to do something about it. Need to loose a lot of weight but have been walking my 10000 steps a day or bike riding 2 - 3 times a week still a long way to go but must say I'm enjoying the journey. I last weighed this much back in 2001.4
