  • Prioritize fruit & veg. Move every day (walks, balance, and body weight). Watch the sun come up over the lake every morning. Don’t let work take over my life. Stay home.
  • My a-ha was reading the factors for heightened risk of dying from COVID: Older, obese, and sedentary. Well, I can’t do anything about turning 50 next year, but I can lose weight and get off my butt.

  • I’m fighting a similar battle. Lots of changes at work and home, most of them scary and overwhelming. I’m spending most days with my heart racing and stomach hurting. At the moment, I’m finding some success in taking walks. Every day, sometimes more than one, and usually alone. Even better if it’s raining or cold. It seems…
  • I’m just popping in to say hello, as a new group member. I probably won’t say much (I’m more of a listener than a talker), but I’ll happily check-in and read your awesome ideas for plant-based meals. I’m new to WFPB, so my plan is to start simple. There will be a lot of repeat meals, with the occasional experiment. :) I’m…
  • I definitely notice when mine break down, but I should say that I haven't tracked mileage in the past, and I'm a stop-and-start runner. I just replaced the shoes I bought 3 years ago, and the minimalist pair before that was 7 years old. But there was a distinct line between shoes that were OK and ones that needed to be…
  • My 14-year-old saw my drivers license, which is 4 years old, yesterday. “Wow. You looked really... different.” Yes. It was 60 lbs and a lifetime ago.
  • I’m very interested in doing an OWS event. Haven’t been able to find one locally here in Connecticut, but am now serious considering Massachusetts and New Jersey!
  • That’s how I know my running shoes need to be replaced: hip and knee pain. New shoes, and the pain disappears right away.
  • While I most often work at my standing desk, I often work in bed and have occasionally worked from the shady backyard hammock that hangs from the kids' treehouse. One of the many perks of working remotely. :)
  • This is relatable. My husband and I have agreed that when we go running together, we actually don't. We start in the same spot, and then head off in different directions. Or we go in the same direction, but he walks the dog and I run. We both turn around at an agreed upon time and head back to the starting point. We can't…
  • The snozzberry wallpaper is pretty low-cal, so you're probably OK. :)
  • Quoted for truth. I hadn’t seen my sister for a year, and hadn’t discussed my 60-lb weight loss with her. Quite literally, we see each other for the first time, her smile drops away, and she says, “I have GOT to get to the gym.”
  • That is my natural eating pattern. Yogurt, fruit, and nuts Half a pita stuffed with chicken and baby spinach Fruit, cheese, crackers Half a bagel with cheddar and turkey Overnight oats with fruit Chocolate protein shake made with milk and coffee Carrots or broccoli and hummus or guac Small amounts of leftovers I do eat…
  • 30 minutes on the bike followed by strength. My weight-training priorities are injury prevention and stability. Incline push-ups Assisted chin-ups Assisted dips Dumbbell military press Step-ups Calf raises Leg press Planks Followed by the all-important foam rolling.
  • But the 920 is so petite! ;)
  • I can relate. I’m 5’10”, have lost 60 lbs, and am not a fashionista. That said, I read some really good advice recently: Do you have an outfit or even just a piece of clothing that you feel best in right now? Learn from it to determine your preferences and styles that work for you. For example, I have a pair of Old Navy…
  • 4 miles on a new trail. New to me AND newly constructed. May tally: 27.8m
  • Yes, that’s how I’m reading it as well. I’m also lifting to ameliorate a specific issue (sciatica-induced weakness in my right leg), so I do functional and stability stuff, but in addition to the heavier strength work, not instead of it.
  • This will be my first time there, and now I'm looking forward to it even more. Thanks! :)
  • Sure, in that context. I find eating ~100cal of something carbs before a run is useful. But if not, it’s entirely optional. I eat based on my own hunger patterns and functional requirements. I do like a hearty cereal with whole milk. Or an egg and toast.

  • I understand the impulse to do something dramatic, but I’d resist that urge. For me, it would result in just feeling weak. I’m losing weight to feel better, not worse, and I’m focusing on being nice to myself. Maybe satisfy the urge to shake things up by trying out a new exercise, or checking out new recipes or foods. Or…
  • Is everyone wearing wet suits? I don’t have one, but if it meant earlier outdoor swimming, I might give in. 3 easy miles. So nice out there this morning.
  • We were passing through Pennsylvania with the kids last month and stopped at Hershey Park. The running joke of the day was that the kids and spouse like ALL the chocolates, but I really dislike milk chocolate. And yet I was surrounded by it all day. Animatronics, people in chocolate bar costumes, every sign post on every…
  • Cholula.
  • @Djproulx — Lol! I did notice that there’s a lot of West Hill chatter this week. It may be pretty soon! It was hilarious because he was responding to my using 12.5lb dumbbells. Yeah. Sooo strong.
  • A banana and milky coffee before my workout. I’d typically follow it with some bran flakes mid morning, but opted to save the calories for lunch out.
  • Cool is a state of mind. Over in the running challenge thread we are talking a lot about the concept of sisu which is a Finnish word loosely translated as grit, determination, and courage. So show some sisu in your physical therapy and you’ll be back to cool status in no time. :) Spent an hour at the Y this morning,…
