  • It's true, the numbers shouldn't matter. I'm definitely not aiming to be the fastest, because I know I never will be! I guess "good" to me is being able to keep up with friends at races, who run pretty average speeds (in my mind) of 8 - 9 minute miles. I guess I'd like to be more in the middle of the pack than at the end.…
  • Haha don't worry, I still suck at it. :)
  • I want to thank you all again. I took the advice given and ran 3 miles yesterday at a slower 12 minute/mile pace. I wasn't struggling to breathe, but it still felt like I was working out and burning those calories. It felt so much better, and to top it all off, I finally made it up the huge hill in my neighborhood without…
  • Yesterday I took the advice of the wonderful folks on here, ran a slower pace than I'm used to in order to keep my breathing in check...and because of that, I made it all the way up the huge hill in my neighborhood without stopping to gasp for air!!! I've been trying to get up that hill for almost a year. :) :) :) :)
  • Same. I caved and had a bite of brownie for dessert. :#

  • Hey there! I could use some accountability as well! I also recently gained back some of the weight I lost, so here I am again. I'm looking to lose another 5lbs by 9/11 (I leave for vacation then), and then 3 more to get to my goal weight, hopefully by 10/1. I'm particularly dreading keeping myself on track this weekend. I…
  • My goal is set to 1200 as well. I find it very challenging at times, but sticking to it works!
  • My most recent hike was to the top of Katahdin in Maine, via the Knife's Edge trail. It was absolutely terrifying for me, but I'm so happy I did it. And now I never have to do it again, ha. :) Next up is Mount Washington in NH. I've been hiking in the White Mountains several times, but haven't done Washington yet! I live…
  • I did it this spring for just over a month, and it didn't work for me. I lost 3 lbs, but it was just water weight, and I gained it back immediately. And I don't eat THAT many breads, most of my carbs come from fruits and veggies. Ok I'll be honest, beer too. I also found that the meals were too high in fat for my liking.…
  • I've been running for 3 years now. I must admit, I don't go as much in the winter, but I still go enough to maintain the ability to run 2-3 miles. Your response speaks volumes to me, thank you! It's so helpful to hear that running for 3 years does not mean I should be faster than I am. Your comments are very reassuring for…
  • That does sound awesome. I am definitely going to slow down for my next run.
  • I did one three years ago, and another last fall, but unfortunately had to walk the last 3 miles because I tweaked my knee. My knee is fine now, I think it was all of the downhill in that particular race (before going back uphill!). Thank you all so much for your responses. I was feeling particularly low after my 5 mile…
  • Good for you!! And thank you for the response. It's nice to hear I'm not the only one struggling out there. Your response was very helpful for me. Keep on keepin' on. And that is a great idea to join a run group. I'm surrounded by people who don't struggle when they run, and that's part of what feeds my negative thoughts.…
  • Thank you for indulging me and for the responses. :) I do feel like running is a good way to get cardio (I also love hiking and other outdoor activities, but it's not an option for me for weekly exercise). I don't hate running, I just hate how much I suck at it. You're right, pace really shouldn't matter. I guess for me it…
  • Get it, girl! I love the positivity!
  • Congrats! 30 pounds down is a great accomplishment in one year!! :)
  • I hear you! I'm back in MFP after a pretty sizable gap of no exercising and not really watching what I ate. Thankfully I haven't gained any weight, but I can tell I've lost muscle and gained fat. I could use some inspiration and motivation as well! :)
  • Good luck today! :)
  • You are all inspiring me to get back out there! I started running to lose weight and I didn't have the money to join a gym. I kept running because it's effective and nice to be outside. I stopped over the winter because of the snow and tried to get back into it this spring. Unfortunately I used all sorts of excuses to not…
  • Back East Summer Ale and Broadbrook Hopstillo IPA are my two current favorites. Both Connecticut breweries. :)
  • I love the grocery store idea! I don't love grocery shopping, but what an easy way to get in some extra movement. Thanks!
  • Awesome!!!!! Keep up the hard work! :)

  • DON'T let anyone make you feel unwelcome. You have just as much right to be there as anyone else. Other than that, I like those top 5 listed above. :)
  • When you tried almond milk, what did you try? I buy Silk original unsweetened. It's low in calories and I don't find it too sweet at all. :) But if that doesn't work for you, I've also had unsweetened quinoa milk and didn't find it too bad, especially in a smoothie where you don't really taste it, but get the nutrients.
  • Peanut butter!! So delicious, SO high in calories.
  • You crunch numbers to figure things out for insurance companies! That's all I've got.
  • Ok ok, you're right, but what if someone else peed on it first?? I don't want to wipe it up, and I'm not sitting on it. So I also squat. I do realize that I'm continuing the cycle, but if I go in and it's clean, I don't squat. So that makes it ok? :)
  • Oh snap, is that really true? I squat over the toilet ALL THE TIME. It has nothing to do with exercise (though I often wonder if I have stronger legs muscles because of it!), but more because I prefer not to sit on public toilets. I don't squat over my own. I also hike and camp a lot, and, well, it's tough to sit on…
  • That's so cool! All 3 jobs! :)
