Partially cooked veggies? ha :) Try putting something yummy on it! I love steamed broccoli with parmesan cheese. Just don't over cook the broccoli, or it gets mushy! Or eat raw veggies with something you do like, like hummus or another kind of dip. Hide raw veggies in a sandwich you really like. If you mask them with what…

I haven't read all of the posts yet, but my calorie goal is also 1200. It's REALLY hard to stay within that. All I have to say is: fruits and veggies!!! I have been finding different ways to incorporate more into my diet. My morning snack used to always be a granola bar. Now it's veggies and hummus. I eat a lot of salads…

Also, Kaiser Chiefs: I Predict A Riot and Oh My God. Two great non-top 40 running songs :)

I have a pretty tight budget as well (thanks, student loans!). I agree with rayneface, rice and grains in dry form are pretty cheap. I've also cut out meat from my grocery budget. I'm not a vegetarian, and if you already are this won't help, but not buying meat saves me a ton of money. I wish I had some other thoughts for…

Great question! I've been wondering that about other people as well. :) I love listening to Grouplove when I run. They're so upbeat and fun! Check out Colours, Borderlines and Aliens, and Itchin' on a Photograph. I'm also a sucker for Sia's Chandelier. And old school Britney. Stronger is a great running song!

I used Christmas as an excuse to eat a ton and also gained weight back. Some of it came off pretty quickly, but not all of it. I learned that I need to NOT use the holidays as an excuse to let things slide. I think it's ok to indulge a little, but not nearly as much as I did. You're completely right, it's about family and…

I love Skinny Pop or Book Chicka Pop lightly salted popcorn. It's 35-40 cal/cup, and despite the only ingredients being popcorn, salt, and sunflower oil, it tastes so buttery and delicious!
-
Good luck! Stick with it and you'll do great! :)

Wow, congratulations!!!!! All of that hard work is paying off; you look great! Keep up the good work. :)

I use sprouted whole wheat bread. It's a bit higher in calories (80 for 1 slice) and isn't the most delicious bread you'll eat (but definitely edible and not at all gross!), but apparently it's the "healthiest" bread. Or so says my sister-in-law, who is a nurse and total health/organic/natural food nut. She makes her own…

Thank you!

Yes, that's what I resort to a lot, and I don't like it! The calories add up faster, and I spend more money than I should. I made an egg bake this weekend, thanks to everyone's suggestions! It made a huge batch, so I will definitely freeze some for another day. Any thoughts on how long it will be good in the freezer? I…

Thanks everyone!!

It's so hard to motivate yourself... but you can do it! You just have to dig deep to find that motivation that you used to have. I'm the queen of bad excuses, so I understand. But excuses get you nowhere. If you're tired after work, maybe try eating an energy bar or something of that nature to give you a boost at the end…

You can do it!!! :) I got out of my workout and food logging routine recently as well. But if we both did it once, we can do it again!

My other thought - there's always give and take. As someone mentioned above, it's better for them to be 45 lbs lighter than eat whole grains. If it's easier for you to eat white pasta and be "healthier" with something else, then that's ok, too!
-
I'm not a dietician or anything like that, but my mother is a clinical nutritionist and has always encouraged eating whole grains. I guess a lot of the nutrients are stripped from the grains to make the white pasta/bread or whatever it is. So yes, whole wheat is higher in calories most of the time, but I believe it's…

Cleaner, eh? I like the sound of that. :) And I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for PB2. I wish I had known about it sooner! Thanks!

I just ran my first half marathon this past fall. It was also something I thought I could never do. I wasn't able to get up to running the full 13.1 miles, but I did run 10 miles straight through without stopping to walk during my training. It was such a great feeling! As was crossing the finish line at the race, even if I…

Good luck!! You can do it! :)

I pretty much stopped logging after Halloween, and after Thanksgiving, stopped exercising regularly and didn't do well with healthy eating. I'm pretty disappointed in how I handled the holidays, but I also know that I worked hard to lose 15 lbs earlier in the year, and I can lose the 5 lbs that I gained back. I just need…

I just googled PB2. I had never heard of it. It sounds like a miracle solution! Thanks for the recommendations. :)

Wow, good for you guys! Some amazing accomplishments here. Hungry Annie, maybe 2015 will be a better year. :) 2014 was pretty great for me. I lost 15 lbs, but more importantly, I started feeling stronger and healthier thanks to yoga, running, and eating better. It feels great! The end of the year added on another 5 lbs,…

These sound great! I can absolutely find time to bake on a Sunday and have these to grab on the go for the week. Thanks for the recipe! :) Quick question though - I'm not a huge baker. When you say natural whole grains old fashioned, is this a type of flour? Or something I would find in the natural food section with that…

You are all amazing! I think the first step is being determined to make a change, and it sounds like you are. I've always had a food obsession, and although I'm at a healthy weight, it's not easy. And it's frustrating (but understandable) when other people don't get it, and tell you that you look great and not to worry…
-
Ditto! I'm up 5 from the holiday season. Not a great feeling. It's hard to stop eating junk once you've started!
-
Good for you!!!! And better to slightly annoy a waiter (even though I'm sure you didn't!) than regret your food choices. Way to stick to stick with it!
-
Ditto! I really need motivation to not be so lazy and make myself wake up early to exercise, or find time to do it after work. And I need to quit coming up with lame excuses not to exercise. Anyone remember this commercial? This is totally me! :# https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2JSWgkwRL4

SkinnyPop or Boom Chicka Pop popcorn. Either the lightly sweet or regular lightly salted are amazingly delicious. They taste so buttery and salty, but it's made with only corn, salt, and sunflower oil, no butter at all. And only 35 calories a cup!! Super easy and delicious.
