  • @bruins_girl - Congrats on your race! Always fun to place well in your age group! @kristinegift - less than 5 hours of sleep, hungover -and you are still out at 7am for a 7.5 miler that felt great! Just WOW! @BettyM1017 - Nice Bling and even better races! Love the AG place and the improvement with each race. Sounds tough.…
  • @kgirlhart - Happy Anniversary! Have a great weekend! @skippygirlsmom - sorry about the blisters - though I am really amazed that as much running as you do that this is a first for you. That is impressive! @sarahthes- Welcome - there is lots of good advice on here and lots of support. @MobyCarp - glad to hear the ankle is…
  • August goals are 90 miles and figuring out what all the info from my new watch means about my training. Aug 3 - 10 miles Aug 4 - 6.2 miles Aug 5- 7.5 miles Aug 6- too rainy/ wimpy Aug 7- 7 miles Aug 10- 7.3 miles Aug 12 - 12.2 miles Aug 13 - 4.8 miles Aug 14 - 2.1 miles - short sunset river run - but with 610 feet of…
  • I could feel a real difference in my form and fatigue level from strengthening my core with weight training. I knew it would help but was quite surprised at how big of a difference it made. Good luck with your new plan!
  • @RunTimer - is that Florence? Regardless - looks like amazing running! @MobyCarp - Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope this is nothing more than extended niggles. @Runningmischka - AWESOME - love getting those speedy runs - especially when they feel easy!

  • @kristinegift and @MNLittleFinn - I so agree about the hot and humid weather. I just don't think I ever acclimate. I actually prefer about 30 F for running, but am happy in the 40's- anything above 60F just really drains me. Sorry you both had difficult runs @juliet3455 - Awesome race and I love the shirt! @JimCrackinDandy…
  • Don't listen to the negative nannies telling you that you are obsessive about exercise. Those dogs would love a short walk and it will help with your cool down. If you feel up to it, that does not seem obsessive at all. Good for the dogs, good for you!
  • Hmm...North or south route ALONG THE OCEAN does not sound to bad to me. Enjoy

Aug 3 - 10 miles Aug 4 - 6.2 miles Aug 5- 7.5 miles Aug 6- too rainy/ wimpy Aug 7- 7 miles Aug 10- 7.3 miles Aug 12 - 12.2 miles Beautiful, sunny morning run by the river. Tried to stay at the same effort I would put in…
  • I almost always eat before running - especially if I am planning to run more than 6-7 miles. But I remember Stan remarking that he likes to run fasted - I think he gave a nice explanation of why in last month's thread. I am not opposed to improving - but I also do this mostly for staying fit - and not being miserable on my…

Aug 3 - 10 miles Aug 4 - 6.2 miles Aug 5- 7.5 miles Aug 6- too rainy/ wimpy Aug 7- 7 miles Aug 10- 7.3 miles Total 41/100 goal Lifted weights last night with my teenage son and then got up this morning and did weights…
  • I have a few pairs in rotation right now - more than normal because I added several when I was training for a marathon and wanted to get new ones broken in and not be racing in either new or really old shoes. Anyway, I used a single pair until I was close to needing a new pair and then I got a second pair and since then I…
  • If you can manage to get both, it would probably be a benefit to your feet and would probably make those shoes last longer as well. I seem to remember you reporting significnt sweat losses. Allowing your shoes to thoroughly dry between runs should keep them springy a little longer. And it also tends to make you notice…
  • That's great! I am impressed on so many levels - primarily related to the fact that you are doing this without an official race. I don't think I could ever push myself hard enough to feel ill after a non race run. And getting out there early in the morning and shaving off time doing it all by yourself is something to…

Aug 3 - 10 miles Aug 4 - 6.2 miles Aug 5- 7.5 miles Aug 6- too rainy/ wimpy Aug 7- 7 miles Total 30.7/100 goal Woohoo. Today is my 24th wedding anniversary. Took the day off (otherwise I would never make it home in time…
  • @kgirlhart - congrats on the new distance PR. Now that you are comfortable running 5k and moving on, I found the next steps to be easier- at least until I moved to marathon training distances @Orphia and the others who mentioned looking for running bottoms with adequate pockets- I am a big fan of the Be Free line at…
  • That does happen with the decrease in estrogen - moving the woman to a more male pattern weight distribution. Unfortunately, that does not mean that it is not associated with increased cardiac risks. The lower relative estrogen levels and increased abdominal adiposity are still associated with more health issues.
  • August goals are 90 miles and figuring out what all the info from my new watch means about my training. Aug 3 - 10 miles Aug 4 - 6.2 miles Aug 5- 7.5 miles Strangely, I pushed myself harder on the hills today and expected to see much higher heart rates since I went further on tired legs and definitely felt like I was…
  • @KatieJane83, @MobyCarp, @Orphia - Thank you for the information and help. If Garmin is basing the zones off of a max HR of 220-age, then that is definitely part of the problem. I used the watch for a 2 mile leisurely walk with the dogs and it had me in zone 2. Surely if I can run a full marathon, walking the dogs should…
  • August goals are 90 miles and figuring out what all the info from my new watch means about my training. Aug 3 - 10 miles Aug 4 - 6.2 miles So I have been running for a few years without any HR data. After hanging around here lately, I decided I needed the new fenix5 and chest strap HRM. I have only gotten in 2 runs and was…
  • So I refuse to care enough to actually go measure my calf and thigh---- but I do remember a time last year that I was laughing at an ad for jeans with a very slender thigh model. I explained to my husband that no matter how much weight I lost I could never achieve that shape. He looked over at me and proudly said "you…
  • Took some time off in July with a long vacation, but I am still on track for my year running total goal. I am aiming for 90 miles in August. My new running watch and heart rate monitor just arrived today (but I am not able to go for a run until Thursday due to work/call) so I will have to wait until then. Surely the new…
  • @Elise4270 - that's an impressive PR. So sorry about the colitis. ☹️. Since you had bleeding as well, make sure you don't have other issues than just IBS. 2nd 10 mile run in a row for me after no running for 3 weeks. I could definitely tell it in the last 2 miles. Oh well. Hopefully back to normal soon. Just under 4 miles…
  • OMG - I was gone for vacation in the mountains (with no cell service for most of the time) and when I finally get back to log a run - there are well over a thousand posts I have missed. Not even going to try to find my last post to update the mileage since it is so late in the month anyway. Managed a 10 mile run after…
  • @skippygirlsmom - ugh. So sorry you are having a recurrence of vertigo. That sounds awful. Great job just trying to push on through. Be careful
  • @MNLittleFinn - it most certainly does not apply to watches....unless of course you don't know how to operate your new one. What did you get? I have been trying to decide on a new watch and keep putting one (alternating between the Fenix5 and the Forerunner 935) in my shopping basket but then I think - why in the world do…
  • @hanlonsk - going to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons for some hiking and sight seeing - and hopefully some cooler temperatures!
  • @RespectTheKitty - Congrats on your first Half. That is awesome! @KatieJane83 - Great job on the 5k. - And not to cast shade - but I think those race predictors really tend to overestimate marathon paces - at least for first timers. My Half time also put me at well under 4 hours and while I did negative split and perhaps…
