  • @garygse - Great race report - smashing that goal time! And some impressive Running challenge thread culling to get that list! @ariceroni - Thank goodness the guy behind you looks to be in pain - otherwise, it might be hard to believe you just finished a marathon! All smiles and no sweat after such an amazing performance.…
  • I am sure you have already gotten many replies, but yes, I definitely started out slow and without endurance. I would have done the c25k but my neighborhood has a lot of hills (most not that steep) and there was no way I could "run" up the hills, so I did a similar self guided plan, where I ran at the flat ends of the cul…
  • @hanlonsk - Certainly sounds like you should see a doctor. It sounds like you are having vasovagal symptoms. This can be worse when you are dehydrated especially if you are very fatigued. But a doctor can make sure there is not some other underlying issue (like heart valve problems) that are causing it. @RespectTheKitty -…
  • @lporter229 - Happy Anniversary! @allyphoe - Yikes - that sounds like a pretty bad concussion! I hope your daughter is better soon.
  • @garygse - Awesome finish on your first marathon! And yes, I do remember hobbling back to the car - seemed like each street curb I needed to climb up almost caused a cramp, lol. Hope you recover quickly @MNLittleFinn - those are just really impressive numbers VO2 Max of 55 and the speedy runs. You are really ready for this…
  • Still in mostly recovery mode but .... October Goals: 1-Don't injure myself trying too hard 2-Get back to a 10 mile run 3-Get my pace back to prior marathon pace on my 2-4 mile runs. 4-Find some better compression gear for this malfunctioning left leg 5-Do a better job keeping up with this thread Oct 1 - 5 miles (left foot…
  • @navygrrl - So sorry to hear about your injury. Don't give up though. Hanging out around here may keep you excited about coming back to running once you are all healed up. @lporter229 - What a fun relay - do you get samples along the way? BTW do you live near there? I spent 4 years in that area several years ago.

  • Still in mostly recovery mode but at least I have managed a couple of slow, short runs this week. So I have no real mileage goal for the month, I just want to continue to progress. Goals: 1-Don't injure myself trying too hard 2-Get back to a 10 mile run 3-Get my pace back to prior marathon pace on my 2-4 mile runs. 4-Find…
  • @MobyCarp - no worries about me trying to truly compare my running to yours, lol. I just meant to say you were doing well and I was happy to see that. This recovery stuff is not fun. My doctors don't know if I will ever get normal blood flow back in my left leg, so I am just trying to do what I can
  • I have still been working on recovery and thought I'd give you an update for the month before it is over. Sept 3rd - went to the ICU for the first of 3 surgeries to help remove clot that was occluding my left common iliac (about your belly button) down the entire left leg. Sept 6th - left the ICU - but couldn't walk more…
  • Great job @fitoverfortymom - that is an impressive pace improvement over your training runs! @amymoreorless - I have had the same concerns about costumes. You are running a half, so chaffing and discomfort definitely could be an issue - not like it is just a 5K. I have seen a lot of women run in superhero tights that look…
  • @seanevan10 , @girlinahat , @HonuNui - Thanks for the recovery wishes. I am getting better, still hobbling but excited to be able to spend some of my time in a vertical position. And yes, we definitely should all head to Mont Blanc for some excitement after visiting the Canadian Rockies. @ddmom0811 - Please be careful! We…
  • Non running check in - I am back home after spending 4 days in the ICU for my DVT. It took 3 procedures to finally get it all out. I still have to go back to have my IVC filter removed. No running for me yet. I am finally hobbling around the house which is a HUGE improvement - but I don't even think I could hobble a 5k…
  • September goal - get healthy - no mileage goals at all - just hoping to be able to walk again and maybe even run by the end. Will keep checking in here to see what amazing feats you are all accomplishing in hopes that it will spur me on.
  • @skippygirlsmom - kept choking back the tears reading your posts about you and your daughter. It's surprising sometimes what will suddenly happen and put things in such clear perspective. Without a doubt, it was worth the missed run
  • All of the recommendations have much merit, but some of what you have to do is decide what works for your fitness and psyche. I would agree with making sure you get in your taper. And though I completely agree that you do not need to have run the entire distance before your first race (and I don't think I would go more…
  • @skippygirlsmom - what an amazing weekend! Enjoy! As for me - still on the couch. Tried to go to work for half a day this week - and that will not be happening again until this is better. You know how you feel walking back to the car after your first marathon? That's how my left side felt for the entire time I was there…
  • @Orphia - Congrats to the newest MARATHONER on this site! Great job finishing so well - no walking and even speeding up at the end! @KatieJane83- yeah - the burpees and box jumps sound exhausting when mixed with everything else, especially. ETA - and @Orphia - I really laughed at the part where you kept running because…
  • I agree that it has much less to do with you than it does to do with them! I have been on the receiving end of comments and even one guy who got out of his truck and started approaching me on a run and I am much older. I have had it happen when it was 10 degrees outside and if it wasn't for the pink bandana I had covering…
  • Non-running update - Still having to stay on the couch or otherwise in a horizontal position most of the time. My left leg is starting to look a little more normal. When I don't try to use it, the color is nearly normal and you can see the outlines of major tendons on my foot. When I stand long enough for a shower or try…
  • Awesome job - first 10K, so a PR, and an AG 1st place and 5th overall. Enjoy it all!
  • @Elise4270 and @_nikkiwolf_ - People like that are so annoying. Clearly they are just trying to trivialize your accomplishments and yet, they are just showing how out of touch they are. At least the 8 minute mile claimicouldbe's might have some memory of that pace when they were younger and lighter - but to say you could…
  • @MobyCarp - really sorry to hear about your injury. That doesn't seem fair (which of course matters not at all) when you are so careful to try to stay healthy. The good news is this is something that will go away and you will be back out there running - and will have much cooler weather to help out by then. I know that for…
  • @Stoshew71 - glad to see you back and I hope things are better soon @kgirlhart - look at you tackling intervals in crazy heat. Awesomeness! @cburke8909 - glad to hear you should be on the mend. As for me, no running yet. Mostly just holding the couch down. I did manage a trip to the store with my husband, but it's mostly…
  • @RespectTheKitty - you will find what works for you. What about changing up your playlist?
  • @amymoreorless , @kgirlhart , @katharmonic , @Elise4270 , @girlinahat and @KatieJane83 Thanks for the well wishes and sympathetic ear. I should take my calf and thigh measurements now from each leg to add to the chart. That would really make things interesting since my left calf is about 6 cm larger than the right one now,…
  • That's still a great race. Sorry that your GI system rebelled against your plan. There are some things that are hard to control
  • @MobyCarp and @skippygirlsmom - Thanks for the toenail advice. It happened in March and I have been letting it grow out - it just seems to keep splitting - but I will just be more patient. I have bigger problems to focus on now anyway.... I WILL NOT MAKE MY GOAL THIS MONTH. August goals are 90 miles and figuring out what…
  • oops, forgot a few.... @cburke0226 - Sorry to hear about the injury. Rest and follow up with the doctor - but you are already doing all that. @sarahthes - I can relate to the retail therapy provided by running, lol. It certainly has not been a cheap exercise for me either - but it is has been incredibly rewarding for my…
