  • Me too. I've been here for over 5 years, but I'm always looking for friends who like commenting back and forth.
  • Simple recipes are fine! I can help with a few of them. I also try to eat whole food plant based and always vegetarian. Some of my favorite recipes include these ingredients. I love to roast eggplant and red pepper slices on parchment in the oven, no oil, maybe 400F for around 45 min--Keep checking. Then I put them on a…
  • If I were you I'd look at some vegetarian/vegan blogs or vlogs and do some reading about vegetarian diets. You don't have to cook tons to be vegetarian. My favorite recipe for tofu is to dice it and toss it, cold, with my favorite guacamole. I do the same thing with canned, drained small red beans. Find a hummus recipe you…
  • You've done beautifully. I'm so glad you're feeling better.
  • My current favorite sandwich spread is a puree of 1 can chickpeas (drained/rinsed), 1/4 c. walnut pieces, 4 T. Dijon mustard (I use the grainy kind), 1 clove garlic, juice of 1/2 lemon, and black pepper to taste. This is really good with about a 1 oz pile of baby kale or other greens, and I'm sure other veggies would be…
  • Do you any resale shops in your area? You can find some good quality clothes even at Goodwill, but better still is a higher-end consignment shop--Still cheaper than buying new and better for the environment. I'm getting close to 60 and have been upgrading my wardrobe to better quality but basic, neutral items. You can…
  • Jane Esseltyn has fun plant-based videos on Youtube, and I've enjoyed Krocks in the Kitchen, too. I like Forks over Knives and Ohsheglows and so many more, but I've gotten into a no-cooking rut: I eat red beans mixed with guacamole for breakfast, a veggie dish like salad, soup or riced veggies in tomato sauce for lunch, a…
  • Me too--I"ve been here so long a lot of my old favorite pals have fallen by the wayside. Will add you!
  • I track whatever I think I may not be eating enough of. I do find if I eat enough vitamin A and C foods (veggies), I automatically get more fiber than I needs, so I've never bothered to track fiber. I sometimes change the settings to check one nutrient over another or just go to "reports" to check how I'm doing. The…
  • Maybe try a different kind of exercise today, like walking? Variety can help.
  • I find that when eating low-calorie, I have to be super careful to not include any "wasted" calories if I'm going to hit a variety of nutrition goals. So no added sugars or white flour products like pasta, bread, etc. I like tofu or red beans mixed with guacamole, almond butter sandwiches, veggies, some of which contain…
  • Including your kids in physical activity, nature walks, trips to the park to play (and you play too), even gong out to toss a ball around will keep you busy and away from the kitchen and set your kids on the right path. When my kids were little, I was thinner than I am now, because I was often pushing a little one in a…
  • I don't think it's your imagination. I went from slim enough to overweight in a very short time after I turned 50. Otoh, I took it off pretty quickly and easily following the guidelines given to my by MFP. Now, the trouble is, that at 58, I keep backsliding every time there is a family emergency or holiday or vacation...I…
  • I'm 58 and started gaining like crazy when I was 50. I hope 60 doesn't make it any worse!
  • My new favorite: Diced tofu mixed with my favorite guacamole.
  • Calories are calories, so just count them, and you should be fine. Pumpkin is so good for you, loaded with potassium, which most people don't get enough of, and vitamin A, fiber...And if it doesn't bother your GERD, that's a plus. Interesting side note. 3 years ago I was told I had GERD. After learning how to live with it,…
  • I'm 58, lost nearly 30 lbs here 4 years ago and am sticking around to maintain. At the moment, maintaining amounts to re-losing the last 10 lbs, but I'll get there! I'm always happy to add a few more engaged, interactive and supportive friends.
  • Did you call the places you'd been that day to ask if anyone turned in a found ring? I had to have my wedding rings sized up after menopause when my knuckles got bigger even though I'd lost weight. :( Dr. says the big knuckles are an early sign of arthritis. I don't remember what it cost, but not too much. They just cut…
  • If you're hungriest in the morning, add some fruits and nuts/seeds to your oatmeal and fruit on the side. Have more veggies, including some starchier ones and beans with dinner? Think about covering your nutritional bases. Do you have a source of dietary calcium/vitamin D? Fortified plant milk or cow's milk will help with…
  • I have a powerful sweet tooth, but I find if I include any sugary snacks, I'm likely to binge on more. I know just what you mean about the world being gray without them, but what I did was substitute sweet treats like nice cream (large, sliced then frozen banana pureed with 2 T. unsweetened cocoa powder and 5 T powdered…
  • I usually make or surpass the goal for potassium because I eat a lot of squash (even zucchini is high) and mushrooms, eggplant, and other random vegetables. From what I've read, potassium supplements are not the greatest solution, the RDA is too low, and despite doctors rarely mentioning it, potassium is important for many…
  • Sending you a friend request. I'm a 58yo vegetarian since 1990, mostly but not always eating vegan. I've been here on MFP for over 4 years now, lost around 30 lbs and found that maintaining is harder than I'd hoped--Currently relosing the last 7lbs...again.
  • Just for the record, I "hated" Brussels sprouts too, until I started roasting them. I peel and cut up a butternut squash, toss it with 2 diced Pink Lady apples and a couple of bags of frozen broccoli or Brussels sprouts, cut into small pieces. I spread all that out on parchment lined baking sheets and bake for *about* 45…
  • 58. I've been here a long time, lost my 30 lbs, keep gaining the last 10 back and then losing it again. I mostly post with my friends. Good to see lots of folks my age here!
  • I like the way you think!
  • No. With beans, sometimes yes, but with tofu and tempeh, never. I'm also finding small red beans do not seem to cause much bloating.
  • Sending you a friend request.
  • Any old which way. I'm not good at routines, either.
  • My optometrist said yes when I asked this, but some can get by with grocery store reading glasses. I'm still doing that at 58.
  • I'm 58, have been here for 4 years, lost 28lbs and found I have to stay here to keep it off...Currently trying to lose the last 7 again. Besides, I'd miss my friends here now if I ever left. Feel free to add me if you interact regularly. I'm active, but more some days than others. I walk all my dogs as my main exercise.
