I agree with all the posts about staying hydrated, listening to your body, etc. It is great mental training though. I have also found training in the summer for autumn marathons helps me train my mental fortitude, and when it cools down in the autumn, I suddenly can pick up more speed (which is pretty fun!).

I have been on it for 5 years. I have no issues, because I monitor my food intake. You will be fine if you manage your food. We are women, and we eat salt, so our water retention is always going to fluctuate.

Agree. It is staying focused and consistent. I am 41, and in the best shape of my life - but I work at it every day. I log even when I am at maintenance weight. (otherwise, it will come back!)

I suggest going to a podiatrist. I went to one when I was having issues with the top of my foot, and based on his suggestions, I no longer have any pain.

Hasfit.com has a great (free) 30 day ab challenge. I did it for a month and definitely saw results.

4.5 years ago I didn't run at all. I thought people who ran 4 miles were clearly crazy. But... then I started walk/jogging with a friend. We signed up for a 5k - and walked part of it. Then we did another, and we got faster... apparently I got hooked, since 4.5 years later I have ran 6 marathons and ran my first ultra…

Ask any runner, and you will find they have ran through all kinds of different pains. Is it a good idea? It depends. There is good sore, and then injury sore. I had issues with my knees when I started running too (it was an IT band issue). I started running with a cho-pat knee brace for about 6 months. It gave me the…

I see it in my body more than the scale. With toning, it is really more how you look than what you weigh. Plus, muscle weighs more than just fat... so as you add muscle, your target weight might change anyway! My target weight is actually 5 lbs more than before, because of muscle gains.

I add mine to my instant oatmeal.

I have a narrow foot, and I like Newtons, but they aren't for everyone. They are great for me, they keep me at a mid-foot strike.
-
I also really like HASfit.com - they have a 30 days ab challenge calendar that is amazing!

This might stem from a weak hip. I know my form was off on squats until I built up my hip strength. Often, one hip is weaker than the other. You might want to try some strength exercises for your hips for a few weeks to see if that helps.

Math games. (like intervals) I pick specific times or distances to move the speed or incline. It breaks it up in your mind to short intervals, and goes WAY faster! Going the same speed the whole time is what creates the monotony. Its actually helped me get faster too!

Staying fit in our 40's requires us to be more intentional with our health and fitness, but it is totally worth it for the quality of life it provides. I ran my first 50 mile ultra marathon for my 41st birthday 2 months ago. I use this site to stay on track and accountable.

Thanks, I downloaded the app. I am going to try to follow this for the 6 weeks, and then start adding foods back in.

Cincinnati, OH (great hills for marathon training!)

pickled okra. or carrots with turkey pepperoni wrapped around them! (less than 100 calories, and fun to eat!)

check out HASfit.com website. They have lots of free workout programs. I LOVE their 30 day ab challenge. I have a gym membership, but I still like working out at home also.

I switched to working out in the mornings a few years ago. It was a tough transition at first, but now I love getting up and running before going into the office (everything is so quiet in the morning! I love it!) Part of my issue was my nutrition the night before. If you wake up sluggish, or what not... it is harder to…

www.hasfit.com ~ They have an AWESOME 30 ab workout that is great to add to a regular routine.

Definitely a foam roller. use daily. If your hamstrings are tight, I would suggest rolling your IT band as well.

Newtons. GREAT to help keep you a mid-foot striker. I would say going to a good running store and getting fitted is the smartest thing to do. But seriously, Newtons are amazing. I will never run a marathon in another shoe again.
