  • Well I've got all but digital scale (for me) and a personal trainer. I had a scale and after numerous tries I just couldn't get it working right so I sent it back. I am not able to afford a personal trainer, so enough said. My husband is supportive, although sometimes I feel like he is sneakily (is that a word?) trying to…
  • Oh and get this, I downloaded the Headache Diary App and kept records religiously for over a year. So after alot of nagging from my husband I go to my Dr's and I show him. One of the connections I've found is when my back hurts the next day I often get a migraine. You know what he said? "Your backbone is connected to your…
  • Unfortunately, I've suffered from migraines for over 30 years. As I entered menopause they became much worse. I am unfortunately in the 25% that migraines get worse at menopause. I have used pills, nasal sprays and now needles to deal with my migraines. Sometimes the only thing that will help is a dark quiet room with a…
  • I've been wondering this myself. How to get the most bang for your buck?
  • Reaching out is a start. Good for you.
  • Hi, I live in Ontario, Canada. 52 5'6" now 161 lbs. 11 down 21 to go. We could be friends and support, encourages each other. I'll send you a request.
  • I have a fitbit one and when exercising I use a polar ft7 with hr monitor. I also use this site to guestimate calories burned you may find it helpful. www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc As far as your steps go, it rates them depending on how fast your are walking. ie. a fast walk will register as more active than a casual…
  • I bought a skipping rope, heard 15 min is supposed to burn alot, here is how it is calculated Total calories burned = calories burned per pound per minute × your weight (pound) × minutes of activity I have found out that I can't skip rope inside my house. And we've got alot of snow so it'll have to wait until I can go…
  • I think you can't go wrong with some oldies from the fifties and sixties. ie. Twist and shout, Mony Mony, etc
  • I've had a couple of times where my intake was way too low and when I close that day no mention is made on MFP. I agree you have to take in enough calories to be healthy. Otherwise, your body suffers and it goes into starvation mode. I was anorexic when I was younger and that is not the way to go. I think MFP should post…
  • I struggle because adopting a new lifestyle is work. However, I'm enjoying it and actually trying to find new ways to think, act, etc. Rather than looking this as restrictions or rules I am choosing to look at it as opportunities and options. Now if you ask my husband he'd say I'm a pessimist but in this case I'm not. I'm…
  • You're size is going down so obviously your loosing weight but gaining muscle which weighs more. It is said BMI is more accurate than simply weighing yourself. Try to log your food but otherwise you're doing good. Keep it up.
  • Odd how healthy food is more expensive. But, investing in our health is priceless. I myself try to go organic when possible. I keep an eye out for sales, cut down in other ways to compensate for the increased cost of my groceries. I figure it's cheaper to eat healthy than to say stroke out.
  • Hi everyone, I'm new to the group so my goals for Feb 2013? 1) Maintain weight loss 2) Tone up 3) Meal planning ie, variety, convenience, options, new foods 4) Help others who are on this journey I must say how suprised I am at how much little changes can affect me. I thought at the beginning that 2 L of water a day would…
  • You have started and that says alot. Every litle bit helps. One step, one flight of stairs. They all count towards your goal. Modifying your diet will help too. Water, lots of water helps too.
  • Tri and Bicep curls for the arms. Dancing for the thighs. Twisting dancing does the abs.
  • I have a fitbit one, found it invaluable in seeing how much I do or don't do. It seems to be more accurate than wrist devices. I never thought I could do 10,000 steps/day. I started with 5,000. Then graduated to 7,000 then 8,000. Now 5 out of 7 days I can do 10,000. When I can do that everyday I will increase it to 12,000.
  • Definitely, you do too much you risk injury, and then your off of exercise for who knows how long. Slow and steady.
  • I work out at home, unless the weather is nice, which it isn't today. I walk, dance, do calisthenics, resistance, yoga and other videos I have and off of youtube. Feel free to add me as a friend.
  • Don't give up. You are probably burning off fat and gaining muscle. Keep at it. Use your measurements as a better indicator. Trust me It'll show.
  • This won't cost anything. Simply put some music on, 50's or 60's have good beat and start dancing. You'd be suprised how fast the calories ad up. Also, try using this website to estimate your calories burnt doing different exercises, it asks you how long ie, minutes. http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc Everything…
  • Best investment I've made. I have a fitbit one. Does what I need it to do without costing too much. Battery lasts long time. It ties in well with MFP. At first I was concerned about logging exercise in on MFP interfering with my fitbit but afterwards I realized that I find it invaluable and time saving to have them tied…
  • Hi, From Ontario, Canada here. I'm a married 52 year old lady 5ft 6in. One son and two grandsons. Started out 172 lbs now at 165 lbs. I would like to get down to 140. I give palliative care at home. I'm currently using MFP, fitbit one, fitbit aria (when I get it working) and a nutritional scale. Anyone interested in being…
  • I think it is a combination of not enough exercise, too much stress, too many calories, processed, fatty and sugary foods. I'm no expert but I think moderation is the best motto and a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.
  • Hi I'm 52. I'm finding this a great app. But I'm finding this new "lifestyle" take work, dedication and discipline. Would love to be your friend.
  • Tried easy beginner yoga this morning. What a workout! Didn't make it all the way through. Back decided it wasn't having this. :\ But, I'll do it again tomorrow. Does anyone know of a reliable site to find out what target heart rates should be? I know I've probably gotten mine too high at times. Keep strong ladies. SSM :D
  • Hi to all, I'm 52 and started my new "lifestyle" 17 days ago. I never realized how simple changes could mean so much. Two years ago I lost 16 pounds by myself. Then I agreed to be in a new medication trial proposed by my doctor (krill oil) as I've high triglycerides for which there is no Rx available. In just 8 weeks I…
