  • I find the less I eat of sweets and refined carbs, the less I crave them. I pretty much don't eat sweets (and don't keep them around the house) except for planned treats. I had a piece of baklava yesterday because it was my son's birthday. I won't likely have anything else sweet this month . . . and every day the cravings…
  • I love them . . . in yosenabe and sukiyaki. Not sure if I would use them as a substitute for western noodles, as they have a unique texture.
  • My husband lost 70 pounds before I met him using intermittent fasting. He fasted anywhere from 24 to 72 hours at a time, not these shorter stints. He was doing it partly to lose weight, but also for the longevity health benefits associated with fasting. My daughter started doing it--basically she eats one 1200-1500 calorie…
  • I would consider just making regular food, adding some liquid, and pureeing it in a blender. Most supplements/shakes are very sweet, and that would get to me after a short time. Ymmv
  • My daughter does this and it's working for her. And my husband . . . he fasts for up to 3 days at a time. :o
  • I sometimes substitute very thinly sliced zucchini for the noodles. The trick is to salt the zucchini slices in a colander, let them sit and weep out the excess moisture, then rinse and blot them dry. Otherwise the lasagna will be too wet.
  • My typical daily breakfast: 1. 3 soft boiled eggs or 2. 2 fried eggs, 2 slices of bacon, and 2 tangerines (lately I've just been going with eggs as it's faster and seems to fill me up just as much.) My special breakfasts (very rare since I'm not eating many grains): 1. High quality whole wheat toast with peanut butter and…
  • I did the Whole 30 diet 2 times last year (for a month each time). I thought it was great, but found I'm okay with legumes so if I ever do it again, I'll leave them in. I follow a mostly paleo diet now, omitting grains, fried potatoes, and milk. I still eat some hard cheeses. I find it's much easier to follow than calorie…
  • I recommend nomnompaleo.com. Really tasty dishes that are lower carb. I usually use soy sauce if the recipe calls for coconut aminos.
  • I agree with the people who say to start with the recipes--then you'll know what to buy. I usually menu plan for the week on Friday, then get up early to shop on Saturday (I find if I'm at the store before 7, it's sooo much better than if I get there after 8, crowd-wise).
  • I just got a spiralizer today--pretty excited to try it.
  • My favorite snack lately is a sliced apple or a banana that I dip in 2 Tbsp almond butter. (going to try the frozen banana version above--that sounds great for an ice cream like treat). Also, cut up veggies with a dip such as tuna salad, egg salad, or faux hummus. (easy enough to use peanut butter or regular hummus,…
