  • @wileyvg, I've been without a thyroid gland for over 20 years now. Weight loss from the lack of thyroid has never been an issue for me. Getting older, menopause, and decreased muscle mass seem to be my issues that slow me down. Even though things are harder as I've gotten older, I can still lose weight at about 1400-1500…
  • To the question about taking your thyroid meds prior to lab testing: I've had two endocrinologists tell me not to take them if you are having a morning blood draw. There is a period of time where after you take the T4, it "surges" into the blood stream. I think it's about a 2 hour window. So to be safe, they tell me that…
  • You ingested something bad. I can see getting sick one time from over indulging, but the all night thing plus feeling off this morning is indicative of either Norovirus (which is not food poisoning) or some pathogen that was in your food. The food doesn't necessarily have to be old or spoiled for that to happen. And as the…
  • I carry an iPhone 7 Plus in an Otterbox Defender case (BIG). I ordered a running belt off Amazon which happened to be one of the few belts that can hold a phone this size. I love it. I also wear a Garmin Forerunner. Can't get rid of either! The phone holds my C25K app as well as my Spotify. The Garmin watch lets me track…
  • A TSH of 1.8 is really good. I also do wish they had checked your T3 and T4 but I will say that statistically, it would be unusual (but not unheard of) for your T3 and T4 to not be aligned with your TSH. In a small percentage of individuals, that is the case. For instance, I can have a TSH of, say, 1.0, but my T4 can be…
  • Tea is not a diuretic and is fine for the kidneys. I count it as part of my water intake. Alcoholic beverages are the only thing that should not be counted toward fluid intake. The alcohol is truly a diuretic.

  • If you go back and read your post, it's very clear that your diet is the problem. Even upping your exercise probably only gave you and extra 200 calories on to your day. While you are probably eating "better" than you did in the past, I'm betting your portions sizes are too high. Go back to measuring and logging everyday…
  • Walking 1 mile 3 times per week is not going to do anything specific to make your thighs smaller. It probably does create a 100 calorie burn for you though. Couple that with eating less and you WILL lose weight. I am 5'7" and 145 lbs and my thighs are pretty slim. Depending on how you carry your weight, you will probably…

  • I do C25K also. I just started week 6. I am making it through but I do not have any speed. I think my walking pace is faster. I am doing close to a 15 minute mile. I had to kind of chuckle looking at the description of my next run. It says Jog for 1 mile (10 minutes). Ah...not going to happen.
  • I also had thyroid cancer about 22 years ago. Had my thyroid removed and when through about 5 years (because of testing and follow up) where my TSH would be up over the 100s. Yes, the 100s. The most weight I ever gained from that was about 10lbs. For many years, I did feel awful and often blamed my thyroid even though at…
  • First of all, at 1200 calories, most people would be starving. I did 1240 calories for awhile and I was very hungry and I also didn't feel well (shaky, tired, and random lightheadness). Forget about exercising. When I upped it to about 1450, I was still hungry but I felt a little bad. Plus, I will just say this, when you…
  • I've been drinking tea (made by my English grandmother) since I was about 3 years old. Always made with milk and sugar. Now, I can't drink it any other way as much as I want to. So, 20 oz. of strong black tea with 1% milk and 2 teaspoons of sugar up to 3 times a day. I've tried to cut it out, lighten the sugar, etc. and I…
  • Just make sure you don't eat it before you have to do something. There is a certain group of people who are quite sensitive to the heavy load of artificial sweetener (it might be eryithritol, I can't remember) and it can cause intestinal distress. But if you're okay with that, then enjoy!!
  • I think the problem was/is that the OP was just not very clear on how she's coming up with those calorie counts for her food. It's important to ascertain whether the person actually methodically checked it out or did they assume. I think for many "old timers" on this board, they have seen so many instances of people just…
  • Dessert every day here. My go-to is the Skinny Cow Salted Caramel Pretzel Bar I will also have a Yasso yogurt bar if I need the dessert to be less calories.
  • For the Greek Yogurt you are eating, is this a prepackaged size and it's plain? Where I shop, we don't have any Greek Yogurt that is 80 calories. Unless you buy the big containers and are measuring out a smaller portion of it? Just curious how you are getting 80 calorie Greek yogurt and not weighing it out.
  • I'm 5'7" and 145 lbs. I am losing weight post-menopause but I have more to lose than you. I find that Iook best at about 142 lbs. I am eating between 1600-1700 calories per day. I am jogging a little bit 4 times per week. I am find this calorie range to be "maintenance" for me. I'm not really lose much, if anything, now.…
  • I had a very flat stomach until I had my first child. It's not too bad now (I'm in my 50s now) but it would probably never be very flat. I think I *could* get it there with excessive working out and very little body fat. I do still have the thigh gap though!! Honestly, it all comes down to how you're built and there's very…
  • OP, I think the post I quoted says it all. Some people really get bothered by seeing others be very disciplined in their eating. You probably would not get those remarks from people who are conscientious of their diets. Most people who make remarks like that probably feel that nagging in their heads telling them they…
  • I didn't think you were complaining. I'm just being one of those annoying old people who have to tell you that you've got a lifetime of that ahead of you!! :) :) Believe me, I *have* been on these boards complaining about how hard it is to exercise or cook properly when you're out of the house so much.
  • Watching this thread with interest. I'm a minimal exercise here, 5'7", 53 years old. I am losing very slowly on 1600 calories. I started at about 156 and seem to be stuck at 146. It is looking like "maintenance" for me will be around 1700 calories.
  • I know, right? I'm sitting here chuckling over her post about getting up at 5AM and not getting done until 4PM for 3 days a week. @Meggalina432, your schedule isn't as bad as many who work. I get up at 4AM, commute, work, and get home at 4PM. You need to figure out how to work with this as this is the rest of your life…
  • I would have taken the calorie count for cooked ground beef. Rarely, do people eat it raw. For things like ground beef, don't look at the package. Put an entry in my fitness pal with these descriptors: Cooked ground beef, USDA. Even better if you know if it's ground chuck, sirloin, etc, because that makes a bit of a…
  • It's the chicory root. I can't do it either.
  • When we get older, it seems that weight loss is slower. Last year, when I first started MFP (53 y/o) it took 3 weeks for any weight to come off. Well, the first few days I shed a little water weight/bloating, then NOTHING, I think for at least 3 weeks or more. Then I "whooshed" and it seemed like overnight I lost 3 lbs. I…
  • Dill pickles. Skinny Pop popcorn (carefully measured out). Half a container of plain Greek Yogurt, nothing added, just to get me through. A cup of hot tea with milk and a little sweetener. Now, these things are my emergency type snacks not the things I eat for a regularly, scheduled snack.
  • I always generally visit the same Panera and they are pretty consistent with serving sizes. I do take out mostly and find that when I eat in the restaurant, my portions, especially for salad) seem to be 50% larger. The chili serving seems to be the same whether I eat in or take out. I feel like I get most of the variation…
  • I wish my body could sense that! So, I am back and I did it!! It was much more doable today than Thursday although that last minute was sloppy. Gasping, lurching, uneven pacing, etc. Not pretty to look at, I'm sure. :) It was a nice 67 degrees out. Just a slight, slight cool nip when I first started so it was perfect…
  • I do have a treadmill and use it during bad weather, but I am SO cooped up all day in my office that I am just loving the outdoors. I agree on the pacing though. I think I probably move to fast on the first and second intervals because I feel great then. I have to make a really conscious effort to slow down on the first…
  • You may have a slight fruit/sugar intolerance (fructose, I think). I have that issue myself when I eat more than a piece of fruit or so a day. Certain ones are worse than others. Plums, plumcots, etc. are the worst for me. Minor problems with apples and peaches. I seem to be okay with mangoes, bananas, etc. It came be…
