  • OP, if I'm doing the math right, it looks like you are walking on average 1 hour per day. That should be pretty good. If you are going from sedentary to that level, you could easily be retaining water from the activity. I'd give it 2 more weeks, then if I didn't see any progress, I'd consider not eating back any exercise…
  • This post was last updated April, 2021 - my integration has been working for several weeks with no issues. Try the following: 1) make sure your steps are synced in Fitbit app; 2) After a couple of minutes, check on MyFitnessPal. If the steps in MyFitnessPal do not match your watch and the Fitbit app, open your MyFitnessPal…
  • I guess it's possible to eat an extra 3,500 calories per day; the only way to get a deficit of 3,500 per day would be to eat very little to nothing and work out most of the day. Both seem equally difficult to me.
  • It's a tie between the long term consistency of effort vs. the fact that no matter how precise you are, everything is still an estimate and weight loss isn't linear. The engineer in me wants precise measurements that yield predictable results on a day in, day out basis and not having that is frustrating and makes you…
  • First off - congratulations on the significant accomplishment you've achieved. 260+ in a couple of years is a significant accomplishment that proves "you got it". I agree that unless the excess skin is causing infections, etc. it will probably not be deemed medically necessary and thus not be covered under insurance. As…
  • Thanks for the post guys. I'm 53 and on a similar journey. My first goal is to get to 180 @ 15% bf; I'm currently 196 @ 25%. So I see my choices as go below 180 and build back up (and then recomp last bit) or get to 180 and recomp to 15%. This discussion is great input.

  • I think you were right the first time @rabbitjb. It sure explains photos like this where she is reported as 117 lbs in the left pic and 131 lbs on the right.
  • Nice! They both make great accountability buddies don't they? God love 'em!
  • Hhhhmmm. My situation is a little different. My sweet Mom is 79 and her filter is fading as fast as her memory. We live in different cities, so we connect via phone most of the time. Here's part of our conversation from Monday: MOM: Are you still on that diet? ME: Yes Mom. I've lost 51 lbs so far! MOM: WOW, How much do you…
  • I had a dinner meeting scheduled at a restaurant this evening and when I pre-logged the food I wanted to order, I figured out I was going to be over my calories for the day. So I went to the hotel fitness center and did an hour on the treadmill prior to going out. Problem solved! What a dramatic behavior change from a year…
  • In September while on vacation, I saw some great looking swimming trunks. I decided to buy them in 34" waist since I am still dropping. The other day, I decided to try them on to see how far I still have to go. I was shocked to find out I'm there now! Far cry from my 42's and 40's I was wearing at the start of this journey.
  • Everybody is different, but if you are talking about the scale, I saw results within the first two weeks. Really fast at first due to water weight. If you are talking the mirror, that took more like 7-8 weeks. You would be doing yourself a big favor if you took a few "before" pictures and also did some circumference…
  • Bulk and cut cycles perhaps?
  • This^^^. It took me over 6 years to go from 197 to 247. It took me 8.5 months to go from 247 to 196, and be in the best shape since I graduated college. I'm wearing 34's for crying out loud! Who would have thought.
  • I have a surge and my wife has a Charge HR. She bought hers first and selected the Charge HR because of the smaller size. She's had great success with it, which is why I decided to get a FitBit as well. I selected the Surge mainly because of the ability to differentiate tracking exercise type. Charge basically gives you…
  • When I say, "I'll get it for you honey" so I can get the step count.
  • ^^This. My experience exactly.
  • I used to use plenty of cream and sugar in my coffee and couldn't imagine drinking it any other way. Having to drink black coffee was like penance for all my wrongs. Same for sugar in my tea. But I wanted to reduce calories and I drink coffee at home then at work (coffee junkie), so I felt the sugar used there was a good…
  • Thank you all. And yes - it feels great!

  • It's been over 6 years. I got to 197 at that time. It's been over 20 years since I've been under 197. Can't wait for that milestone! Congratulations in advance! It took me a while to actually "break the barrier". If it happens to you, just be patient and keep at it - it will happen!

  • My previous post got chopped and not sure why . . . Katey - you are making me rethink what I'm doing - so thanks for your post.
  • Love this whole thread - its got religion and passion! Katey - you make the best argument I've seen. I bought a digital scale (Ozeri model ZK13-8 and highly recommend it too) several months ago because I wanted to be well-armed for this battle and saw all the advice throughout the forum. I have to admit I typically only…
  • Excellent accomplishment - may all your pots be monster and may you never suffer a bad beat - you've earned it!
  • I think the dichotomy of MFP wanting you to eat “all your exercise calories” back is an implied “incremental” exercise calories. The reason the rule of thumb is to only log half your exercise calories is most calculators include the BMR portion of burn during the time you were exercising as part of the answer (wouldn’t you…
  • Michelle - fantastic accomplishment! This is very inspiring!
  • Thanks BBee!
  • My main goal for this summer is to hit my target weight of 180 - SW: 247; CW: 207. I have 27 lbs more to go!
  • I'll preface this response by saying I'm a relative newbie, but I've gleaned from reading a great deal of the community that there are generally 2 phases that folks go through on goal setting. The first phase is "what do I want to weigh". I set my goal at 180 because that is the weight where I finished college and I…
  • Vismal - thank you very much for the amount of time you've spent on this post. I read it all the way through when I first found it and have consistently checked back for updates. I've lost 40 lbs so far and the information you have provided has been invaluable. While the questions are getting very repetitive (and I admire…
