Great job, OP. You've obviously changed your behaviors and how you think about food. And it sounds like you're going to stick with it over the long haul. Kuddos

The first weight you lose when you start eating at a deficit is water weight. Your body works through glycogen stores, which is attached to water. So fewer glycogen stores, less water weight. Your body can't replace glycogen until you are eating at a surplus. So when you have a cheat day, your glycogen stores are…

Re-read the OP. Her doctor told her that no matter what she ate she would always be overweight because of PCOS. So hearing from people with PCOS who have successfully lost weight is simply evidence to the contrary and a reason not to give up. It isn't hateful.

Taking it one week at a time (banking calories to indulge) is a great strategy. Another thought is try losing at a slower rate so you are less likely to fall off the wagon next time around. Who says it should be a pound or half pound per week. A pound a month loss is still a loss. Having friends to support you and logging…

There are still people here who value science. Honestly, far more than I would have anticipated from a public Internet forum. By and large, the people I have met on MFP understand and value science and logic far more than most of the people with whom I interact on a daily basis.

That just about everything on Pinterest about weight loss and nutrition is probably wrong. Weight loss costs little to nothing. No expensive shakes or meal replacement plans. Just eating at a calorie deficit.

I have a normal weight (BMI 21) and my sister is underweight and we both have PCOS with cysts. So weight control has not helped that issue. Only about half of PCOS patients are overweight. The diagnosis is not a life-sentence to being overweight. I'm fairly certain my sister and I have been able to control a lot of…

There are also studies that show harm. Green tea prevents the absorption of folic acid and has been linked to neural tube defects in both observational and interventional studies.

That is the most dangerous thing I've heard of on MFP. And that's saying a lot.

You're right. Synthroid is T4 and you need both T4 and T3. Armour thyroid is often a more appropriate medication (it has both T3 an T4). It should be taken twice a day instead of just in the morning.

Details, details. I think it sounds like a fool-proof plan.

Eat at maintenance and lift heavy.

No, they do the opposite. Most people are upright at least a few hours during the day. During that time, the abdominal muscles are engaged to keep you upright. When using a waist trainer (or TLSO), the core muscles don't have to work as hard and can atrophy.

To lose that much, you'd have to cut off a limb. :/ But you can establish healthy habits on four weeks. Maybe that is a better goal?

The world would be a sad, sad place if those were the only two options.

That's how I see it too. Plus, IMHO, wearing a Fitbit seems to broadcast to the world that you are insecure about your weight/body/health to such an extent that you need to monitor your freakin walking. Me, I'm fabulous. I walk so everyone can have a better view of my butt, not for fitness.

Lift heavy

I've never eaten doing any of those activities. Now birthday parties and thanksgiving dinner are a different thing altogether. But those don't happen very often. Honestly, here's another example of a time when leaving the house may or may not involve eating: Going to the bank to deposit your paycheck, which is right next…

If you lose too fast, you risk losing lean body mass. If your goal is 1lb per week, I would try for that.
-
I'm gonna second this. Craving ice can be a symptom of anemia.

There are lots of inaccurate methods. Honestly, having someone who is good as estimating look at pictures and give you a rough estimate is as good as it gets unless you want to get a dexa scan. I eat quite a lot too, but I've been able to lose fairly easily.

See if your doctor will order physical therapy. Active core muscle strengthening will take pressure off of your back

My husband and I work past 7 and like to eat dinner. And we can't eat, drink, or pee during the day so...

I'm 4'11 and half Asian (definitely have an Asian body type). I think the reason the BMI chart is different for Asians is because we tend to have a lower lean body mass. In other words, we have more fat than a Caucasian person of the same weight and therefore the same health issues that come with the fat (not necessarily…

Do you have diastasis of the rectus muscles? If so, no diet can fix that. Some people have improvement with physiotherapy. In the vast majority of cases, surgical muscle repair is the only thing that completely eliminates that issue.

1. Intrinsic. For the first 4 months or so, I didn't tell anyone I was trying to lose weight or make healthy choices. I made a commitment to myself every day. I decided to do this January 1, and have logged in every day since then. 2. Extrinsic. Having really awesome friends on here that cheer me on (and whom I can cheer…

I thought I had a muscle cramp on one side and it turned out to be a kidney stone...

Hmm. There are a couple of red flags in the OP. For one, it sounds like all of the dietary recommendations were made based on a very flawed test with no clinical ramifications in and of itself. This link is excellent and explains it better than I have time to: http://chriskresser.com/the-ph-myth-part-1/ The only reason I…

@herrspoons and ana(with a number afterwards that I can't remember) were kicked off shortly before that.
