[quote="PaulaJSchiller;39399258" This is how I felt, I am coming around to the idea the more I read. May is just a bad month for me to try this, I may start mid month and go into June. [/quote] That may work better for me too. I have Mother's Day and my anniversary on the 14, and something else prior to that. ... but…

So far so good. Day 2 is mostly over and I'm on track

So... I'm trying to figure out the Ketosis/carnivore part. If you are keeping carbs to less than 5.... how could you not be in ketosis? Is it that you *could* eat too much protein to kick you out? I can't think of another reason, but that reason would be hard to achieve wouldn't it? @fit_goat I get that you are saying that…

I had my Thyroid out too. It sucks (which we both know is an understatement). Keto works for me. I'm am working to overcome emotional eater issues as well.

I use the protein shakes that Costco has- premier protein. It is a bit high on protein percentage wise, and I usually add heavy cream to make up the fat percentage when I drink it. Also, some people have issues when they start to use things that are not 'real foods', so be careful.
-
I learned it from you! B) And greatly appreciate you sharing it all the times that you have.
-
I have only used it to help keep my milk supply up when I was breastfeeding. You smell like maple syrup when you take it. Interesting data.
-
@AlexandraCarlyle I believe the percentage is 'Percentage of Calories', while each gram of fat, protein and carbs have different calories each. I just learned that one today while I was reading up on something.

at least I know the quality of the source of that particular concern with this challenge is... and I can completely ignore it.

I saw a lot of problems with that video. There weren't any studies mentioned t back up what he is saying. He advocates only 3-4 oz of meat.. he also said that the lean body mass formula for protein is wrong 'doesn't even know where that came from'... HELLO, one google search shows that it was determined based on scientific…

If you track your food, you can still do it. Just watch your macros. You will have lower than normal carbs, but that is ok. They aren't needed for ketosis. If I do this, I will be doing both keto and carnivore. I'm still deciding and doing research and asking lots of questions. :D

sorry.. it took me a while to find it and I didn't refresh the post prior to posting what I found.

Ketosis can exist for a person without losing weight. that is what is in the 'maintain' column above. For that person (probably a male), they need to eat 2200 calories a day and have the 10/20/70 macros. IF you want to loss weight, you want your body to use the fat on you as part of the energy expenditure, so you reduce…

Found it @loriafriesen 'While a low carbohydrate / ketogenic diet in maintenance mode involves high levels of dietary fat, you don’t necessarily need to be adding extra dietary fat while you’re trying to lose weight. If you’re trying to lose weight ideally the energy from fat can come from your body fat stores as shown…

I don't understand what that means... Are you talking about going poop? as in 'flush out the intestines'? or are you talking about flushing out something else? Will you please explain? I have no issues with not pooping enough. I am interested in this carnivore thing to see if I have issues with fiber.
-
so, if I want to do Carnivore and Keto, I can right? I just have to watch my macros. If I eat the fatty meat, I don't see why I couldn't do both. Or am I not being realistic... but... in my head I can see meat/egg/cheese/cream/butter/spices combinations that would add up to my protein gram range and way under carb limit. I…

@loriafriesen the pie chart is really only very useful to me when I am at or near my calorie goal for the day. If I eat under my calorie goal, then I have to look at my grams. If I am spot on for my calories, then the pie chart will (hopefully) show that I am at the 5% carbs/ 75% fat/ 20% protein goal that I have. I wish I…

I put what I could into the keto calculator: https://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ I assumed female and took the body fat percentage it suggested based on your height and weight. I put in 20 net carbs. How Much Protein Should I Eat? It is important to get enough protein to maintain your muscles, but not too much or it will…

How tall are you? Do you exercise a lot or 'do' a lot during the day? How much weight do you want to loss(or how much do you weigh)?
-
57 grams of protein seems low. If you have a low calorie day try to get your protein in. Your body will get the fat from what is stored on your body so you don't have to force the fat. @sunny_bunny_ has a good picture for more data on that.

@Scochran86 I use the Keto calculator https://keto-calculator.ankerl.com

What do you do for tracking/goals on the food? do you just make sure you stay 5g or less on the dairy/seasoning carbs and make sure you hit your protein minimum and then listen to hunger cues after that(WIP for me on the hunger cues). Does it depend on what point you are - maintenance compared to losing ?
-
@FIT_Goat fascinating blog. Were you pretty close to your goal weight? I see that you lost about 10 pds, but I was wondering if that got you to your goal weight.... as in, you were't far from what you wanted to be and it got you there compared to being 50+ pounds away from your goal. Most of the time, the more weight you…

I have found that I have to keep popcorn and nacho cheese sauce out of the house for the first 10 days or I just give in to them.... I don't know why, but they are my weakness.

Kids have different needs than adults do. They are growing so fast. I think that it is more appropriate for them to be on a moderate carb diet, with no added sugar and avoid the foods that are a high glycemic impact. But if you don't start them that way, it is hard to switch it especially if the other parent doesn't eat…

I can really only address the magnesium qustion. I don't know what Keto OS is and haven't found a 'bread' recipe I like yet. I've stopped trying because I want to try to work on the mental/emotional aspect of feeling like I 'need' bread (and because the ones I tried were gross). country life Magnesium potassium aspartate…

Are you supposed to use the height line for yourself no matter what weight you are starting from? I have 100 pds to lose(and that is not getting me 'skinny' either, that is my 'nicely rounded' weight), but the chart doesn't seem to show a difference for whatever amount you have to lose. Does my question make sense?
-
@FIT_Goat Let me know if you didn't get my request... sometimes navigation on MFP eludes me. ALSO...is there a setting to make it 'notify' me when someone quotes me? I only get the 'notification' when it uses the @ followed by name outside the quote.

4/20- rough night, but not going to use it as an excuse -- successful start to the day. yay me. I decided to start the day with steak. feels like a good decision. :-) weighed myself, not great, but not horrible. I need to have my starting point accurate for future weigh ins.
