So what was this? A glycogen dump from my liver?!?! I was at 19 hours with Bg of 69 and ketones of 2.1.... 22 hours and Bg of 101 and ketones of 1.5!!!!! Nothing but water. Ugh

Mostly like... I’m not really hungry, just bored... or wanting a distraction/break from work and get up and go to the kitchen instead of going for a walk or something. The mind games of the habits and thoughts that surround food.

I’m three weeks into keto now. Started 18/6 most days after week one. I’m going to work up to 36 hr three days a week. Hunger hasn’t been the issue... electrolytes and mind games have been so far.

Wow! Nice that the doctor suggested it. He/she must keep up to date on things.

I read an article that mentions an 'insulin response' to sweeteners even if there isn't an impact to blood glucose. Baby steps. One day I'll work up to a water only fast, until then I'll do as few of the 'aids' as I can.

Good luck on your journey. Most people find that it is the fat that makes them feel full. You might want be aware of that as you track your food and notice your hunger. If you have meals that are mostly carbs, and you feel hungry, you might want to try for meals with the macro percentages you determine instead of trying to…

I am a little confused, but it may just be a difference in what you consider to be 'low carb'. I consider 130 grams of carbs a day as moderate carb levels. I believe, and I could be wrong, but 'low carb' is typcially 50 grams a day or less. With that in mind, are you wanting to do a Low Carb or a Moderate carb diet? This…

it is all very variable. Everything I see says that each of us has to figure out what is best for ourselves. Fung says that if you can do IF without the extra fat, that is better. But if you need the fat, use a little bit.

Ditto. That's great.

Do a search for Keto calculator. There are a few out there.

Keto has shown to help treat/reduce/keep from growing cancers that are PET positive. PET scans use a radio active glucose, so that makes sense to me. Not all cancers are PET positive.
-
@elize7 maybe consider a combo pant size or weight goal? I was stable on weight for 3 weeks but I lost enough inches to go into a smaller pants size.

yep. I just had a friend say 'Keto isn't good for hypothyroid people' the other day. I had no idea what she was talking about because it works for me... and having no thyroid at all makes me as hypo as you can get. I really think that there hasn't been enough research for them to say it is bad and like Phinney…

Nice summary/discussion by Stephen Phinney http://blog.virtahealth.com/does-your-thyroid-need-dietary-carbohydrates/

seems like a lot of studies that were done that show 'ketosis is bad for thyroid' do not do it long enough to be fat adapted. I will not ever get my thyroid levels checked during a time frame of at least a month to 6 weeks of starting Keto. I also find it interesting that lowered t3 levels indicates a muscle saving…

@baconslave when you get back, will you please put this in open threads? It is important for those with thyroid issues to be aware that the transition period into ketosis does have an affect on thyroid. I also found this article the talks about how leptins can be the cause of autoimmune issues…

Also consider having broth just prior to the training. Keto athletes should have a dose of sodium prior to working out.

https://www.docmuscles.com/the-skinny-on-sweeteners/ more data and references to studies in it.... doesn't have monk fruit listed, but has most of the others.

@KnitOrMiss I know that you have done a lot of work on thyroid data, do you think this link should be considered for the open thread reference? I found it to be very informative and wish I saw it earlier. Granted, I have to figure out how it works for me since I have no thyroid gland, but my body still has to do the…

How much sodium are you getting? I get hungry when my sodium is too low. I would think that with as much as you work out that it needs to be near the 5000 range per day. Try drinking some chicken broth/stock.

@PatriciaJ279 Look up 'Keto calculator' with a search engine and plug your data in. I used those numbers to set up my goals in MFP. This is the only place I use the percentages. I use the carb grams as a max(minus fiber since I do net carbs) I use the protein grams as a minimum and will eat more protein if I am really…

When I look at the low carb sites that talk about the various sugar replacements, that is the one thing that they say is the drawback of this sweetener. I don't see the 'dextrose' most of the sites mention as an additive on the ingredient list. I decided to email the company to see what they say about it. It is a small…

Chicken stock with some butter.

Can you do eggs? There is an egg fast that is Keto.

There is a Facebook group that has done a ton of research and getting data from manufacturers about ingredients.... low iodine was in the title of the group and it was a closed group too.
