If I do put salt on anything I count it as a separate entry.

I have been consistently under on my sodium. When I input my foods I put all the ingredients separately, e.g., olive oil for sauteeing, onion, meat, beans, whatever, rather than taking a full meal off the list like "homemade chili." Nijitaliana is probably right, if you aren't cooking with salt and not eating processed…

I love ranch dressing, and only the real thing will do. But when I go out to eat and order a salad with ranch dressing I get it on the side and just dip my forkfuls of salad into it and get a little taste on each bite. I usually eat less than a tablespoon that way and keep within a reasonable calorie and fat goal. Pasta…

Corn always does that. I only eat it in the summer though. LOVE corn on the cob with butter and salt... But it's only an occasional treat!

I am glad to hear that my experience in the past with exercise was not unusual. I admit I felt better after getting in better shape but no weight comes off unless I also eat a lot less than what I had been eating. I prefer things like walking and yoga anyway so this makes me happy to hear!

Sounds great! I will have to try it in the summer.

Hi everyone! My name is Mimi, I am 61 and am 5 feet tall. I have about 35 lbs. to lose (I lost 3 so far on MFP!). I was very petite and small when I was a kid and into my 20s but that gradually changed. I was at 147 lbs. for about 20 years, which while not ideal, was still OK. I always felt I "only" had about 20 lbs. to…

Yes, it is discouraging but at least you can tell yourself it wasn't your fault! The weight will come off again! Just be patient!

Oh I know! I find pasta really hard to measure. What I think is a serving is probably at least two!

Hi all, I'm 61 years old and 5 feet tall - I hit my highest weight EVER last year (178!) and managed to get down to 172 but was stuck. So I joined MFP in January and have already lost 3 lbs. and am under 170 for the first time in a couple of years. I am doing pretty well keeping to my 1200 calories (it so sucks that we…

I can totally relate to you, Look_at_me! I am 61 and in a similar situation as you but with ten fewer years to fix it! I joined MFP almost two weeks ago at 172 and have already lost about 3 lbs., if I can believe my stupid scale that is kind of ornery. I am only 5 feet tall so I am considered obese with a BMI over 33. I…

I am only 5 feet tall and weighed 172 when I started MFP on January 4 I think it was. I have lost 3 lbs. so far. My 1200 calorie goal is very do-able as long as I don't drink alcohol. That is what usually puts me over - that and carbs if I overdo. I am aiming for 135 lbs., which is still over what they say my weight should…

Cathy120861, I have tended to be under the "goal" on the nutrition panel except on days when I eat pasta. However, I don't know if that goal is good or bad. I should try the "net carb" goal you are working toward and see how I do. Thanks for the info!

I too am trying to cut back on carbs. I love MFP because it shows the carbs as well as calories, fats, etc. in all the foods. This way I can see if I am tending to be under the average goal amount for carbs. So far I have been, and a little over on protein, which I have no worries about. I also keep an eye on sodium since…

Atkins works on the principle of putting your body into a state called ketosis which burns off fat. Although it has its proponents, to me it is not a healthy diet. Lots of non-starchy vegetables, some starchy veggies and fruit, and lean protein is the way to go. You are doing great.

Now, Weight Watchers has changed their point system so that some things have higher point values than they used to - wine, for instance. I am not sure if they did it because the calories are empty or because there is some different effect on the body. But I do know that if I drink alcohol I tend not to lose weight even if…

As I have always said, I didn't get this way by eating too many carrots (cooked OR raw). I agree with others who say it is overthinking it to worry about how processed (cooked) your fresh spinach is - if I am eating fresh spinach, cooked or raw, I am not eating a Twinkie. Therefore I will lose weight! ;-)

Don't try to "eat back" your exercise calories. Just pick your activity level that you do on average and don't keep track of every little thing you do. In my case I am only 5 feet tall and it tells me to eat 1200 calories a day to lose weight. Since you are 5' 9" and have less to lose, 1200 seems low to me. If you are…

I'm totally in. I know it's the wine that is making it impossible to lose weight. I habitualy drink wine every night. Since I joined MyFitnessPal I first tried to fit a glass or two of wine in but whenever I tried I went over my 1200 calorie limit by exactly the amount of the wine... I now admit it is the wine that is the…

I'd be happy if I lose a few sizes in my boobs. When I was the right weight for my height back when I was in my 20s I was a 34B. Now that I'm about 50 lbs. heavier and 61 years old, I'm a 42D and I'm only 5 feet tall so I look very buxom/matronly. I would be happy to lose those boobs, but of course I will also sag... I…

HI! Same here - health is what it's all about for me. I'm 61 and feel as if it's kind of my last chance to get back to a healthy weight and get back some of my energy. As a former Weight Watchers dropout, I do find that keeping the food diary faithfully really keeps you on track. I just joined MyFitnessPal this time…

Hi, I'm 61, went through menopause in my mid-50s. Definitely harder to lose weight after menopause but I know my biggest two weaknesses are wine and carbs! I am trying to stick to 1200 calories a day - I'm only 5 feet tall - and I need to lose 35 lbs. or so to even get down to a manageable weight. To reach closer to a true…
