Ever see that movie Tommy Boy with Chris Farley and David Spade. Remember when Farley put on Spade's coat and sang "fat guy in a little coat"? Yeah...at 260 I had an occasion where a sport coat was required and tried to put on my coat that was a little tight at 230. The next morning I started. That was almost 5 years ago.

Starting strength or Stronglifts 5x5 would be the obvious starting points. Everyone starts somewhere so find a program and stick with it. Program your lifts and lift *your* program :) Go get strong!

BTDT...got the t-shirt. A couple of things: 1) It's awesome over a short run if you have metabolic damage that needs to be addressed (or a couple of diseases that react well to a ketogenic diet). It has a specific application where it makes sense for a little while-- talk to a doctor that knows about such things if you…

As my rhetoric professor back in college would have written in red pen...so what? Why should we assume one way and not the other. Other than the fact that one way answers the question and the other just starts another fight over carbs.
-
Why can't we assume the OP is capable of determining what macro balance he/she wants?
-
Starvation mode, sheesh.
-
Are you like 4'2"/80 lbs? If not then yeah...you're going to lose some muscle doing that.
-
This. Willing to wager the OP suffers from lack of muscle as opposed to excess of fat...

This is the only useful post for about the last 6 pages. Congratulations!

We bought a Forester a month ago or so...I'm quickly becoming a fan. (It's the Mrs' car) The Impreza wagon is *tiny* and just not big enough for family of four + 2 dogs. It'd be all right for a single person or a couple w/o kids. I really thought I'd hate the CVT: I don't. I am glad I talked her into the turbo though...

I think they're really cheap on the used market for a reason...

Are you lifting? If so, 0.8g/lb is a good amount with as high as 1g/lb being more than adequate. 0.8g/kg is low if you're lifting...don't do that. (If you're not lifting...well...that's the best way to maintain lean mass...) Get at least 0.3g/lb of fat too, please-- if not more. (for hormone function) Balance the rest with…

Flash frozen veggies are fine so long as they're not coated in some kind of goo-- they're cheap and they retain nutrients extremely well. I'd prefer fresh all the time but I'd like a Maserati too yet I drive a Ford. Same with frozen fruit-- it's sweet enough without added sugar so I look for that. Most mornings I drop 3/4…

Wow. No. You're not 'put together wrong' Most likely you're out of whack a bit, which is common, but it's nothing that can't be corrected pretty quickly with some mobility work and a dogged focus on form.
-
Well, a few things can happen: 1) You're eating more calories than you're logging 2) You're not burning as many calories as you think you are 3) You're retaining water weight for some reason or another 4) Some combination of 1, 2, and 3.

Why should working out not be fun?
-
Yes.

Close to 4 years here. I think it's *a* way to get stronger and faster but certainly not the *only* way. Give it a try. Go to more than one gym-- they all have different personalities and some are certainly better than others. Look for one that's either small and can give you a lot of 1 on 1 time at first or more…

I don't eat out very often these days and avoid pretty much all processed food. The salt we use at the house is all "sea salt" (read: uniodionized). I also go through stetches where I don't have much dairy. I don't eat seaweed (unless it's inside a sushi roll which happens not frequently enough). All of that can lead to…

At my lightest: 68 pounds-- 257 to 189. That was paleo + crossfit for the 50 pounds or so, then paleo/zone + crossfit for the last bit. Paleo/zone was lightning fast but my calories were set far too low for the training I was doing at the time and my lifts went down. Ate huge the next year and regained to 208 but 3/4"…

I ran one last fall at 225 lbs. The novelty had certainly worn off by mile 8 or so. I ran with a fairly large group (15 or so) which made it a lot of fun. If you can run reasonably well and have a reasonable amount of strength you can do it no problem. It's really just a bunch of 800-1600 meter runs separated by the odd…

Of course. But cut the calories that were easy to go overboard with and let the poster feel satiated on far fewer calories. You gotta cut some, why not those? It works *really* well for a lot of people.

That dude needs to be kicked sqaure in the jimmy. Women lifting is awesome and should be encouraged.

"Namaste, Beeyotch." Wow.

Pretty typical workday.
-
Most likely scenario? You burn out because you're not recovering without rest days and adequate protein and just end up fat.

You kidding? They're marketing that stuff *to* the rich. $4 a bar. SMH. https://www.exoprotein.com/products

These are the same people that told us that eggs were going to kill us for the last 3 or 4 decades, right?
-
^^This. If you're spending money it'd be better spent on a set of weights.

Rice and beans are super cheap. Eggs are awesome. Frozen veggies aren't bad. Learn to cook cheaper cuts of meat well (learn to love the crockpot)
