  • I like Quest, though they can be a bit pricey. GNC sometimes sells the individual packets as 4 for 3, so you can sample a few and see what you think.
  • ^^^THIS! Also, I find that if I want to hit my protein goals it's simpler to mix in a dose of protein with my iced coffee in the morning. I fit it into my calorie counts, it helps my macros, keeps me full until lunch, and tastes good.
  • I sometimes use Sworkit for a quick stretch or yoga if I'm stiff. In general the calorie counts seem way off to me. It might be more accurate for longer workouts, but certainly the stretching/light stuff is not 100 calories for 10 minutes, for example. But in general I don't log exercises like that so I ignore the calorie…

  • In general it's not a great idea to run every day, at least for your first year or so. String together three or four days and then take a rest day, and see how you feel/what's aching, etc. Running every single day is verrrrrry tricky and likely to cause stress fractures if you aren't prepared. IF you do choose to run…
  • You could try modifying one of these: http://www.questnutrition.com/cookbook/desserts/blueberry-almond-muffins/
  • I agree, my first thought was that this was more proof that extreme dieting can cause major issues than the idea that weight loss is impossible. IIRC, former contestants have talked about using diuretics and being extremely dehydrated to squeeze every last % out of their weight loss. I am pretty sure people have talked…
  • Reddit has a great free recommended routine at r/bodyweightfitness, and You Are Your Own Gym is good too.
  • Reddit's routine or You Are Your Own Gym. FYI the Reddit routine does have a free app on both Android and iOS.
  • You could always pick up a TRX/Jungle Gym XT/similar suspension straps-they pack well and add a lot of dimensions to bodyweight workouts.
  • Sounds like an allergy. Possibly oral allergy syndrome (http://acaai.org/allergies/types/food-allergies/types-food-allergy/oral-allergy-syndrome)? If you're concerned you could always go to an allergist for testing.
  • Maybe log it as frosting?
  • Weights still help because they'll help preserve muscle in a deficit. It doesn't help if you lose weight but also lose muscle mass. You're just skinnier and softer.
  • Do you pass the unleashed dog people regularly? If so, I would let them know if you see their dog unleashed again you're calling the police. If you don't see them often or you don't need to maintain decent neighborly relations, call the police without confronting them again. It blows my mind when people think it's ok to…
  • Mmm all these sound good. When I do eat oatmeal I usually throw salt and pepper in, but now I am going to branch out with more mix ins!
  • I actually like the plain multipurpose powder from Quest. It doesn't have the weird aftertaste of some protein powders, probably because it's unflavored, and when I make shakes with it I can better control the sweetness. Typically I just mix it with soymilk in the AM, sometimes I toss a bit of vanilla extract, honey, or…
  • Imagine how fast that guy would have been if he wasn't a smoker!
  • You can, though your cardiovascular capacity may be slowed vs that of a non-smoker. On the upside, you probably won't end up outrunning your muscular fitness (often newbies get hurt because they have a strong cardiovascular system so they push beyond what their joints can handle).
  • Tofu is cheap and easy, I just made a batch of tofu "jerky": 1 block tofu, pressed to drain water and sliced into the thinnest slices you can get Scoop of sriracha and squirt of soy sauce (balance it to your taste, you need enough to spread over the tofu slices) garlic powder or any other flavoring Brush both sides of each…
  • I can't find a listing for the new Star Wars in the MFP database. Does the calorie count change if it's blu ray?
  • Several years ago I was out for a run when I heard a commotion above me, and a squirrel threw another squirrel out of a tree. The tossed squirrel landed smack on the hood of a car, sat up, shot me a "THIS NEVER HAPPENED" look, and ran back up the tree. I assume it was some sort of weird squirrel foreplay.
  • It comes with a strap that you can use to connect the two individual straps together as one unit. There is also a loop system built in on the ends so you can loop each strap around a bar securely. Basically, the end with the rubber stopper for the door has a pass through big enough to fit the handles/strap through, and…
  • I have a jungle gym xt, I love it. It works best when you can hook it up to a branch or pullup bar, but you can hook the straps into a door if needed as well.
  • You can also try squatting with the balls of your feet on two blocks/hardcover books, etc to force you onto your heels.
  • Also, maybe do some squats in front of a mirror or get a video...your calves shouldn't be that sore from squats.
  • Just note that you shouldn't take too much of any pain reliever...if you're taking it consistently for days, see a doctor before you trash your liver or kidneys.
  • I am a big fan of hard boiled eggs. I vary it up, but today I had hard boiled eggs, a hunk of baked sweet potato, and a protein shake (just a scoop of protein powder and a cup of soymilk). Protein is a big struggle for me too, but that combo manages to get me around 47g of protein, plus it's super filling and delicious.
  • The very first time I set out to run, I made it about 3/4 of a mile waaaay too fast, and puked in a storm grate. It will get better...I've run 4 half marathons and more 5ks than I can count. C25K is much, much better than running until you puke, so you're already ahead of the game!
  • I am all about skipping the bun. I've also recently discovered the joys of getting a burger with a fried egg on it (best if the yolk is still runny), and I would much rather cut up a bunless burger with an egg than have a non-egged burger with a bun. And yea, throw some lettuce and tomato under that and it's the…
  • Exactly! I do the same, especially since most of my workouts are calisthenics and kettlebells, which are hard to quantify in terms of calorie burn. I see workouts as a bonus cushion, enough so if I have a beer on the weekend or eat out and can't perfectly calculate my portion it's not a total disaster. I don't see workouts…
  • Dips are good too. If you don't have access to a gym or dip bar, you can use a 90 degree angle countertop or two chairs back to back (just make sure they are stable chairs!) I can do balance work and assisted dips with two chairs, so it can be done.
