Don't "exercise". I mean this in two ways 1. Exercise, while good for your overall health and fitness isn't a huge factor in weight loss. Particularly when starting out many people find it helpful to put off the exercise portion while they get their eating and calorie intake under control. Sometimes it's better to tackle…

Depends on what you define as 'meal replacement' and the reason you're replacing said meal. Having a bar, or a shake, or a smoothie, or whatnot for breakfast is a perfectly fine meal. And if adopting this as a breakfast option helps you avoid higher calorie options and therefore stick to your calorie goal than 'replacing'…

OK, there's quite a bit in this post that needs to be unpacked... Firstly IF is an eating pattern, that's all. It has no proven intrinsic 'benefits' beyond those falsely touted by discredited quacks like Fung who are just trying to fleece people of their money and sell books. All that's required for weight loss is a…

Everyone's walking around weight will fluctuate several pounds on a day to day basis. The weight you see on the scale is made up of a number of different things including water and 'waste'. You can jump on the scales do absolutely nothing unusual and be 3lbs lighter or heavier the next morning.

I was convinced to try it ages ago. Did the 30 day thing and it was just a super expensive waste of time for the most part. Eventually I stopped ordering all the garbage stuff (cleanse, "Snacks", gross super juice, vitamins, etc) and just kept buying the shake sachets as I was using them for a quick convenient breakfast…

What irritates me, is when you look at the panel and check out 1 serving and it looks like it will easily fit in your goal for the day only to check out the 'servings per package' and see that it's 1.8 or 1.3 servings per package. That so deceptive. They've clearly done it so that they can make the 'per serve' figure…

I honestly don't know how you do it. It would drive me absolutely insane. I get shirty with arbitrary S, M, L, XL, etc sizing in men's clothing but at least our pants come in inch/cm waist measurements and our shirts come in inch/cm collar measurements (which is actually a pretty reliable indicator of fit). You all need to…

Hmmm.. User joins, posts 2 messages both about a new fitness app then disappears? Perhaps my overly suspicious nature is showing but, me thinks someone was trying to employ some guerilla marketing for their new fitness app?

Or just good old callisthenics

Given the information provided the likelihood of gaining weight by eating back more than 300 of the 600-750 reported exercise calories is very very unlikely considering a calorie deficit is already factored into the calorie target from the get go. On the flip side, overly restricting and not fuelling workouts properly can…

I used to read all about how chiropractors were pseudo-scientific nonsense but I went to a chiro for a while a few years ago and used to swear by him. He wasn't into all the other stuff just provided good deep therapeutic massage and adjustment. Then one day I went to a physio and got just the massage and experienced all…

I don't, but that's only because I don't have to as I'm losing weight at a rate I'm comfortable with. If I did find my progress slowing, stopping or reversing then this is something I'd look at doing. I like to take a path of least resistance. To do a minimum amount required in order to get results. If I'm able to get…

What do you mean by noticeable? Do you mean look different? feel different? perform different? losing 10lbs is losing 10lbs and what that means will be different from person to person.

Perhaps I'm jaded but in my experience Users are impatient and wouldn't read past the first sentence (perhaps 2) before clicking 'Next'. Then you'll find the forums inundated with irate new users who are outraged because MFP is 'broken' and they can't pick the rate of loss they want to achieve. This is evident by the…

Just to clarify I'm not trying to discount the struggles with emotional eating or trying to make it sound like "it's all in your head" so just get over it. Rather that a big step forward for me was the act of owning my behaviour, taking responsibility and not using it as an excuse. It's the realisation that you can only…

MFP, at it's core is nothing more than a fancy calculator and database. It doesn't offer expectations nor does it make any claims or offer any 'guidance' beyond it's hard cap on minimum daily caloric deficit. The user gives it input and the app preforms it's calculations and provides the results based on what it has been…

Switch your scale to grams. Embrace the metric system =) grams will be more accurate than oz anyway and pretty much all the reliable MFP entries have a 1g/100g entry that can be used to record exact weights. (ie 25g = 25serves of 1g or 0.25serves or 100g)

I tended to carry pretty much all my weight on my torso and face which I think is a pretty common thing for guys. What little weight I did carry on my arms and legs was the first to go and now is pretty much gone all together. The rest (chest, belly, lower back, neck, face, etc) has all kinda been "deflating" at…

I once had a friend tell me that he had a 'neck rule'. That if he was sick 'at the neck or above' he would still workout, but if he was sick below the neck then he wouldn't. It seemed to make a weird kind of logic. Sore throat or stuffy nose = OK to work out. Congested chest, upset stomach or achy joints = No exercising.

No, YOU put you at 1200cal by selecting unrealistic and overly aggressive goals. MFP is just a calculator that takes the information you give it. If you give MFP appropriate input it will absolutely give you accurate and appropriate goals.

I used to refer to myself as an emotional eater but I don't any more. I kinda realised that I was using this as a convenient excuse to eat. It was a way of absolving myself of responsibility for my behaviour. It wasn't my fault I was eating, I'm just an emotional eater. It's beyond my control so I can't be blamed. That…

At 110kg (244lbs) I buy and eat the exact same foods I bought and ate when I was 160kg (352lbs) and it will be the same food I'll be buying and eating when I get to 85kg (187lbs). The difference is that now I'm cognisant of the number of calories that are in the foods I enjoy eating so can actively monitor and regulate my…

Over an extended period of time accumulate a calorie deficit of approx 77,000 calories. If done over the next 12 months this would mean eating in an average of approx 200-300 calories per day fewer calories than you use.

While that's true people tend to massively overestimate the amount of muscle weight that can be gained and underestimate how hard it is. Even under optimal circumstances (which would include a calorie surplus rather than deficit) it is likely to take multiple weeks or even months to even gain 1lbs. In a calorie deficit…

I'm seeing a lot of advice in this thread on how to make a lot of pee and one to the point of potentially messing with your electrolyte levels in a detrimental way. I'm also seeing a lot of anecdotal advice which may work for you or may not. You really just need to get to the reason behind why and that's going to take a…

Sounds to me like a classic restrict/binge cycle. This is where you rely on "motivation" and "willpower" to under-eat and deny/deprive yourself of the foods you enjoy/want. The problem is that eventually (about a week or so in your case) you'll 'crack' and all bets are off. Sustainability is the key. If you can only do…

If I was going to Disney I'd be far more afraid of erasing fun, enjoyment, pleasure and memories than 'progress'. You can always re-lose any weight gained but you'll never get that time back. Weight gain is temporary, lost memories and missed opportunities are gone forever. If I went to Disney (or any vacation for that…

That's an important thing to realise. "Life" will always be there and you, unfortunately, can't just put family, friends, work and all the rest on hold while you do this. You need to do your best to make eating in at appropriate calorie level a part of your life. Life is messy and unpredictable so chances are this part of…

I was responding to the original topic of eating protein in order to deal with craving carbs. Of course if there's a legitimate reason then it's not about craving. If I was allergic to shellfish and peanuts then no craving in the world is going to make me order at prawn peanut satay dish.
