You've made a great start by posting on here and asking for advice - I'm in a similar position and its just soo hard, but the advice I get consistently is just to do something... walking, chair yoga, etc and not to keep looking back to that period when I used to be able to climb hills and run 2-3 miles a week. Its taken…

Have you considered talking to your health professional about this? Perhaps the 5k run isn't going to be the sport for you, or perhaps its very achievable if you just go about it the right way - and thats going to depend very much on your asthma and other restrictions you may have. The hardest thing in the world is…

Hi - I've just noticed on the "general weightloss & fitness" board there is a post titled "any nurses out there" - might be useful for you to check out, I find its helpful to chat with people in the same situation and fellow nurses would understand the perils of shift working and missing meal breaks that you have…

For me, its been taking a really honest look at why I wasn't sticking to my plan and then going for a new and different approach this time... with some more realistic goals for a change. I have about 4 stone to loose.. but this time I've accepted that I won't loose it overnight... so I've set my MFP calorie goal with the…

I've read quite a lot of reviews for fitbit zip & one from people who attach it to their bra strap. This sounds like it could be a winner for me... either that or leave it with my watch, overnight - it will need to be somewhere I won't forget it every day

There are no failed weeks - some weeks will always be easier than others but don't mark some down as failures, its all learning... :) At least you're trying! There is loads of help on here for the app but if you want to ask someone directly feel free to friend me

Looks like a great idea. I've looked at Bento lunch boxes before but couldn't quite see what I would put in them - really liking the ideas & inspiration on here. Think its time I shopped for a Bento lunch box!

I like phd diet whey protein powder - 1 or 2 scoops into a fruit smoothie (say with strawberries, banana & almond milk, nutella for a treat) makes the smoothie into a filling meal replacement. I chose the PHD Diet Whey because I'm on a weight loss mission, so looking to keep the calories down but still get protein and…

Hi - I use Nuun tablets (www.nuun.com or from amazon) - they are sugar free, carb free, salt free and contain electrolytes to help replenish fluids lost through exercise. There are loads of different flavours (most are caffeine free, but those with caffeine are clearly marked). There are 3 different types including an "all…

Hi - thanks everyone for your feedback on here, its really helpful. I've been looking at the various options mentioned on here. Liking the fitbit one at the moment, Fitbit seems to have a lot of fans on here and the fitbit one isn't a wristband, which means I could wear it everyday. A wristband style would have to be left…

Hi. I don’t feel comfortable in the gym, but having realised that exercise is necessary to loose weight (I have about 5 stone to loose) I have spent a few months trying out all of the different options (spinning, zumba, aquafit, jogging, dvds at home, cross trainer at home… ) – and I honestly think this is the way forward.…

Welcome to MFP Lee. I too am relatively new to all this, but can claim to have previously tried every fad diet going... This time its all about nutritional information, education and getting it right for me. MFP and the community on here has been a brilliant source of information and support for me, I am sure they will be…

You're certainly not alone! I've been using MFP for a few weeks - with about 5 stone to loose. I also use Fitbit to track steps, which does sync very well to MFP. I have learnt an awful lot from the community on here, which has also helped spur me on. I too have a long way to go, but I'm beginning to see that the first few…

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm still researching but swayed by the FitBit at the moment.
