When I started here in 2015, I was at 186 and wanted to lose 20 pounds. It took me about six months by counting calories, and by doing aerobic and bodyweight activities. I haven’t figured out maintenance very well because almost every fall since then I’ve gained about 8 pounds and then begin losing again sometime in…

I love it. I make mine with avocado, a tablespoon or so of cocoa powder, honey to taste, and chia seeds. Enough liquid of choice to blend. I have it only occasionally, but it’s a delicious dessert.

I agree with this. I occasionally take a week off from lifting and I come back to the gym stronger. Sleep and stress levels can also affect your lifts.

Holy crap. Really? That would be a nope for me too. Luckily, my second job (part-time) is at a university so I get my membership for dirt cheap right now. I WISH our tiny house had room for a home gym. Not only is it small, but the basement is one of those old stone ones with no heat or insulation. I don’t think it’s high…

Right? I get hangry if I don’t eat enough exercise calories back. My husband is pretty quick to bring it to my attention! I love food. I love the way exercise makes me feel. It works so well that these two things help me do more of the other. And ignore the woos. Sometimes I can’t figure out what I’m being wooed for. My…

You should get a food scale and weigh everything for a while. Heavy calorie things like peanut butter can narrow that deficit quick. What surprised me most when I started weighing was that I was underestimating in fruits and vegetables. My “medium banana” was more like 1.4 medium bananas. My large carrot was actually 2.…

And how often are these splurge days? Not judging, but my splurges right now are more like eating at maintenance...
-
January 2018. Not this year. OP, are you weighing your food? It’s really easy to go from your deficit and into maintenance (or higher) if you’re only eyeballing or estimating servings.
-
I agree with this. But if at the end of the day you’re truly still hungry, give yourself a 100 calorie snack. It’s hard to keep up a fitness routine at too big a deficit, and it’s also challenging to know exactly how may calories you actually burned during exercise. Figuring out a healthy balance shouldn’t feel like a…

This is true. We’ve had a bag of potato chips in the house for two weeks now. As delicious as they are, I’ve left them alone because a) my healthier “meal” foods are more important when it comes to my calorie budget, b) I am really close to my goal and I want to lose my last few pounds, and c) I’m just not that interested…

Yup. Calorie counting works. EVERY diet out there works by eating fewer calories than your body uses. I eat all the food: I just eat within my daily calorie budget as best I can. Certain foods aren’t “bad” - as soon as you cut out the bad ones, your focus becomes: when CAN I eat them? I don’t think that’s healthy or…

You don’t need to eat a lot or every day. I add it to my overnight oats and like mg07030 I also enjoy chia pudding. Both of these things are not in my daily food plans. They have their benefits, which someone else has mentioned. Moderation, right?

This sounds DELICIOUS!!

A big aussie burger, and the husband split a beer with me. A small bowl of popcorn as dessert. Burger night is one that I don’t try to track calorie-wise... the beer is extremely rare.

I just gotta react before reading the whole thread. At 36 you are SO YOUNG!! Don’t start making your age an excuse AT YOUR AGE. Are you going to resign yourself to a walker at 50? Seriously! This weight management thing is a longterm game. Do you just want to lose the weight for summer and them put it back on when bikini…

I intentionally ate at maintenance for a few days last week, and then this week I had friends over: i drank some beers, and had dessert. I knew that this would stall my loss and I’m back on track now food-wise... but seeing the scale stall is frustrating anyway. Even though I intentionally ate more!!! I drive myself…

I was in a ski accident when I was a teen, and a bone got chipped. I had surgery to remove the chip and ever since then my knee has made crunching noises loud enough to make an echo in concrete stairwells. The clicking is new this year. I don’t remember doing anything to warrant this new development... besides aging. 😔

And... you’re not new to this, so I’m probably stating the obvious... we women can work our butts off in the weight room and have little to show for it. After the magical newbie gains, progress is slow!
-
If you’re fluffier than you’d like to be, go on a small deficit - .5 poinds a week. I’m on an upper lower split 4x per week and I walk several times a week. I’m still making some lifting progress despite being on the deficit. Lose a few pounds and see how you feel. The fluff is good at hiding the muscle.

A carb is a carb is a carb. You could get all your carbs from junk food and as long as you’re in a calorie deficit you will lose weight. It’s better for you though if you eat include healthier options.

Do you mean a sleeve that covers the whole knee or the narrower band that goes under the knee? Mine has just recently started snapping/clicking too.

I DO NOT need a reminder to get up every hour from my desk at work. I stand up probably every half hour because I have always had trouble sitting still/concentrating for longer periods of time. Plus, I drink a lot of water and coffee during the day! I don’t wear headphones when I walk or cycle outside because it also makes…

Most of this applies to me, too. Even when I was running. Why should I spend money so I can obsess even more about my weight and stats?
-
I do not have a wearable fitness tracker. I already use my phone too much, and sit in front of a screen at work. When at the gym, I intentionally leave my phone in my locker. No headphones or music, except whatever is on the gym’s sound system. Am I missing out? No idea. There are two young women I work with at one of my…

If there is pain, you should see a doctor and mot just look to forum strangers for advice. I usually try to eat things that help you go every day - like a plum or a pear or a serving of prunes. Coffee also helps, as someone else has said. Things like chia or flax require that you drink enough water too.

It reminds me of back when Flickr had a safe search filter, and when you had that filter off, the option to go back the safe viewing said something like, “Take me back to the kittens.” Anyone else remember this? Or maybe they still have it...
-
I was just reading about the experiment the other day, and was wondering if it would come up on this thread. I also thought they were allowed fewer calories.
-
That sounds like a great reason to figure out this maintenance thing. Then, after October, you need to find a new reason the make it stick!

The outside part is chocolate. The white and orange stuff inside is... gross. It hurts my teeth.
