  • Starvation? Torture?
  • I don’t like them either. I thought I was the only one. You could give them to me for free and I probably wouldn’t eat them.
  • The idea of switching to maintenance stresses me out because I’ve never done it successfully longterm. I keep losing and gaining the same 10-15 pounds over and over. My problem is that I eventually stop logging and let the weight creep up for too long before I do something about it! If we can learn to lose weight…
  • At the bottom of each person’s post on the threat is the word “QUOTE If you press quote, what that person said will be pasted in the comment post at the bottom. Then you just add to it.
  • If you don’t have much weight to lose, you could work at recomping - eat at maintenance, lift weights and over time you WILL gain muscle and get rid of fat. Or, keep working out while eating at a small deficit until you get to your weight/body fat goal. Small deficit as in: aim for 0.5 pounds loss per week. No comment…
  • I totally get the procrastination. But. My posture has improved, my skin looks better, I sleep better, and the chronic lower back pain I had is gone. All those on addition to the confidence. Fitting the gym is a pain when you’re busy, and it took me a long time to get over the intimidation factor of a weight room, but I’m…
  • Another food weighing question! When weighing fruit like bananas or oranges, do you peel them first?
  • Your breakfast breadown makes me so glad that I no longer use sugar or creamer in my coffee! So many extra calories to eat! Back to the topic: I always struggle with protein, so I try to eat cottage cheese several times a week for breakfast. I don’t like it by itself, so I’ll add fruit to it, or yogurt. I second oatmeal. I…
  • I don’t really do any self-talk relating to lifting, but I DO focus on how I feel AFTER a gym session. I can’t say I love lifting, but I do love how it makes me feel. That feeling (energized, proud, the feeling of physical exertion) is what gets me out the door and to the gym. Great post and thanks for the update!
  • Just echoing Panini911 and ithers who have already posted: I would never be able to keep counting calories and losing weight without allowing myself small treats! I have a little today, and KNOW that I can have some more tomorrow. I used to eat way more bread (oh, buttery toast!) but I can’t have it all! I have cut down on…
  • What do you do that needs the calories? Totally not judging!
  • I’ve been lifting weights for about four years now, more or less consistently. I started lifting (I was more into cardio and running then) over fifteen years ago. I’ve had chronic knee problems since I was a pre-teen, made worse by an injury that required surgery. It has affected my ability to do physical activity for most…
  • You could try adding weight to some movements, or incline/declines to make them more difficult. Not feeling “pain” doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t get a workout. By the same token, more reps isn’t necessarily better either, depending on your goals. If you used to feel it after these exercises, but don’t anymore might…
  • One of those hugs was from me. I see red too, when people talk about cancer. I lost two brothers from it (they were 23 and 50), my mom (57), and two aunts (46 and 71). That’s just my close family.
  • I cycled most of last winter but we had way less snow than usual. This year? More snow and much colder. I’ve been a wimp too. I have close call all the time and cycle really defensively. I half-jokingly call my cycle commute “my daily brush with death.”
  • Oh thank-you. This made me have a fit of laughter. Ahhh, woo!
  • I used to always ensure that I made eye contact with drivers, but it just angered me that they’d look at me and then cut me off despite the fact that I had the right of way! I never trust drivers anymore because hey do always win. I have learned to take up more space on the road, because they will try to squeeze you over…
  • That sound delicious! Of course, I am Canadian, and I’ve been told by some Americans that I have no idea what real chili is. So, nope, I won’t share my fave chili recipe because it isn’t legit. Or maybe I SHOULD share it just to see how many woos I can rack up!!
  • Haha. I only have 9. Not sure what part of my comments the woos are for, since I usually mention multiple things in one response.
  • I have a sweet tooth and I also always want to eat. I have hard candies in the house that I’d break my teeth on if I chewed them. If I’m feeling antsy for sugar, I will have one of those. Hardly any calories, and they last long enough to distract me from higher calorie stuff.
  • It has only been a week! Changes don’t happen that quickly, and it also depends how how much you want to lose, what kind of deficit you’re eating at, and a whole lot else. Keep at it! Edit: it’s funny how many of us spend years if not decades letting ourselves get heavier and out of shape, but when we decide we want to…
  • As someone without a military background, I also thought that running at a pace where talking was still possible... was for sissies. You weren’t alone! I didn’t read eveything, but as someone who has abandoned running, the idea that a slower pace builds endurance is insightful. I’ve always thought ( only thought about, no…
  • I was sick for a week and was depressed when I found out that the Dayquil medication I was taking 4x a day was adding several hundred calories to my day!! It really sucks when the scale stands still, but if you’re doing everything right, it WILL drop.
  • No, it can’t. It’s when you let something like that derail you and it turns into a cheat month. Try to avoid cheat months. 😬
  • Unbelievable! I need to step up my game!!
  • I am currently reading “Older Faster Stronger” by Margaret Webb. I found out about the book from the link below, which was sent around by a friend whose husband, nearing 50, was concerned about facing physical decline as he aged. Although the book was written by a woman for female runners, it has a lot of interesting…
  • Has OP specified their gender? I couldn’t find it in the thread.
  • A cheat meal or cheat day is just a tiny blip in the big picture. You are doing great!!
  • Refeeding is eating at maintenance, so you shouldn’t gain. Good luck!
