Wow...super confusing. bulk/cut yes...bulk/cut no. cant build muscle and cut fat at the same time...can do both at the same time. Really sucks for a beginner. Great...the gut. So obviously the cut phase lasts until the fat is gone right? Also any particular macro percentages carbs/protein/fat to shoot for during each phase?

So during the bulk phase, can I expect the fat to build all over or mostly on the gut where men typically carry it?

dieselbyte I was wrong about my percentages. Right now MFP has my percentages at 20% protein, 30% fat, and 50% carbs.

no I'm not taking measurements. Right now I just go by the scale and how my clothes fit. When my fat boy jeans get loose I try on the smaller ones. My wife says my gut is shrinking but I cant tell.

Ok so I am 43 years old, 5'11" tall, 207 pounds with probably 30% BF. I have lost 8 pounds in 26 days on my way to losing 30. Is there a benefit to lifting weights while I am cutting calories to lose weight or lose the weight I want and then do the surplus/deficit cycles?
