For around $40 you can purchase 1/2" to 3/4" rubber horse stall mats that 4x6 feet. That's what I have in my home gym. They are very durable and heavy and won't slide. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rubber-mat-black-4-ft-x-6-ft Sometimes you can find them half price on Craigslist

Greatest? Not sure. While I've had many gym and platform PRs (raw 425/335/535), I feel the best is yet to come. Picking up a 200 lbs stone over my chest was pretty cool though, even I did get injured doing it.

Oh yeah! Core foundational movement to all types of lifting!

Coffee and something, anything, that is easy and quick to eat. Yesterday, a protein bar. Today, a large blueberry muffin and extra butter and a protein bar.

Yeah I've added in some CF too and will be greatly increasing my conditioning and trying to get more movement not just in the lateral plain, but in sagittal and in the transverse planes. In addition, I am completely retrain squat and whatever it takes to proper low bar this time -- and not some hybrid BS. I've decided to…

We are doing what we need to be done. Let's compare notes through the process. Not only will it help ourselves, but others too.

I've hit a wall. Weakness in my body that I have just tried to muscle through, just doesn't work anymore. Since being injured last year I've done my best to meet or exceed my pre-injury levels, which I have. 335 bench (+20 lbs), 535 deadlift (+5 pounds), 425 squat (same). However, you can't outlift bad form and deadlift or…

Thanks to everyone who posted, while our spaces may not be exactly what we want, they sure beat nothing.

Thank you @Gloriam_Sanguinis Is it a team? Individuals? Both?

Thank you Kelly Ann. Hey can I DM you? I kinda have a question about that.

I competed in a USAPL push/pull meet last Saturday and I went 4/6: didn't make any of my last attempts. Bench Press: 320 lbs PR (by +5lbs) Deadlift: 530 lbs PR. (By +1 pound) The last deadlift was 540 lbs, I almost had it! Just a few more inches. I earned sliver for bench, bronze for deadlift, and bronze for best overall…

I was just thinking about building something like this yesterday. Low ceiling in my basement, so either garage, or outside.

TL:DR It's not the sets so much, as it is the loads. As a gym neophyte you'll make gains easy, but you need to progressively lift heavier weight week after week to continue to make gains until you plateau.
-
Roll your activity into your TDEE, adjust calorie ceiling as needed, and carry on. Accurate calorie burns are impossible to calculate without specialized equipment.

I wasn't aware this was even a concern *shrug*

I love 4x8 work for hypertrophy myself. I pick a weight that I estimate to be heavy enough to do 4x3x8, and hopefully 8 on the last set. (Usually this about 70% of 1RM -- depending on which exercise.) If I get 8 and it was easy, increase next session. If not, keep working it until I can go strong 4x8. Progressively loading…

Absolutely fantastic pull.

IDK, probably for all the reasons I stated above, Just probably.

When asked about a beginning Barbell program I recommend Starting Strength. Mark Rippetoe is a coach and supports his product through free videos and books and a constant online presence. Heck, one can become a certified Starting Steve coach. StrongLifts doesn't do that. With the neophytes I coach, we do Starting Strength…

I've had my struggles like everyone else, but I'm more fit and stronger than I've ever been at 46. The only thing hard is to stop and fat chance at that.

Didn't run Murph this year because I now have to train on Mondays, but even then I've always had to scale to half Murph because of other nagging injuries. This year, I'm finally fully healthy and I stay on up on my mobility, but powerlifting comes first. As a side note, anyone planning on attending the games in Madison in…
