  • It's best if you model behavior and not put restrants on her. The half-size-me podcast host recently did a facebook live about this topic : https://www.facebook.com/HalfSizeMe/videos/952203088459730/
  • Exactly, when life is super stressful I find I don't have the mental energy to care about weight management. So I've been working on stress management. Injury (couldn't run) and life stress allowed me to gain back 70 lbs of original 120 lbs lost.
  • I make mason jar salads, I can make enough for a week and they are still good. there is lots of info on how to do them on pintrest.
  • I use the TDEE method now but when I logged exercise just adjusted the calories burnt to what I considered more reasonable and was planning on eating back (large green numbers make me want to eat more, lol). You can up the activity and duration to what you did and just manually change the calories burnt.
  • I'm confused what you are saying, But you can lose weight eating Ruffles.
  • I got obese because I'm rarely satisfied. I could eat that mixing bowl full of fruit and then be looking for another snack in an hour. zero points food won't work for me. I think it's a know your self, and current WW won't work for me but calorie counting with MFP (i actually macro count, but same thing) works because I…
  • I know it's just one day, but I think you have to know yourself well before attempting anything like this. A low day is just a set up for me to then go and binge. If you don't have any issues like I do it make work fine for you. But I've learnt that I can't take a huge deficit because it just backfires. I like gum or diet…
  • I usually stay far away from fresh berries but had a hankering so just paid 6.99 for 250g of blueberries, lol. I should really stick with frozen berries (8.49 for 750g frozen).
  • That's great! Over the summer you can take advantage of any good weather and walk, I love walking and running because I don't have to worry about gym memberships etc. Just shoes! If you can manage it I do sugest good shoes and sock (it's amazing how much socks matters for blisters, I wear expensive double layer socks now…
  • Hey Bj, are you going to walk or run it? There is a local 5k fun run here and I started by walking it one year, then walk/jogged it the next, now I just run!
  • Stevia taste funny to me, but otherwise I haven't noticed anything different the few times i have used it. I prefer the taste of other sweeteners.
  • Why not? I'm in the have a little bit of chocolate camp. I have pre-measured bits of chocolate at the ready for a bedtime snack, 89 calories each, sometimes I have the calories to have to. I sit and enjoy and love the feeling of treating myself. That or add more cheese to the salads. or both. Chocolate and cheese, the two…
  • Also make sure when you log exercise in to MFP that the start time and duration is correct, because it will overwrite whatever activity is shown during that time from your watch.
  • Yes just keep going. Another thing that I don't think was mentioned is that your muscles tend to hold on to water for repair when starting a new exercise routine, which is seem you have done. Also as a women hormones also affect our weight, and you can retain water during certain times of your cycle (this varies by women,…
  • You defiantly are retaining water with new exercise. You may also be retaining water because of stress. You seem to be eating only 1500 calories. Eat back a few of those exercise calories and don't rush things so much. Use a trending app for your weight as mentioned are try for 1.5 to 2lbs per week. 5lbs/week, although…
  • Another Canadian, and pretty far north. I've learnt people respond differently in the winter to no sun. I know people that have those SAD lights and swear by them. I seem to do a bit better, vitamin D and keeping active and I'm generally ok. I also do tend to get a bit more sleep in winter then summer when it's light all…
  • I also live very close to the gym, however I find I get distracted easier at home. So if I go home to shower then it takes me longer to get ready because *squirrel* That is also why I pay the gym fee instead of working out at home. I'm much more focused and productive there then when I try to work out at home.
  • Yes, as part of my bedtime routine I pack my gym bag so it's by the door ready to go and I put together my breakfast and lunch (prelogged) in a bag in the fridge ready to grab. I also set my gym cloths out. So everything is easy and ready to go without any thought in the morning.
  • I agree that morning workouts are great. It puts a good start on the day and less likely something will come up to deter you. I shower and get ready for work at the gym, it's a big timesaver.
  • Glad you are still at it! You are doing awesome!
  • Thanks for reporting back! I've also heard that the mental aspect of a maintenance break is good practice for after you are done losing - as it's basically a long maintenance break ;) you have to learn how to not regain :)
  • Depends on on you define 'fit' but yeah, it makes sense because the habits that make parents obese easily can transfer to the children, it's what they learn.
  • Welcome! What are your goals? to lose weight? What is your height and current weight? If you burn in total an average of 2500 (assuming the jawbone is correct) and you and average of 1500 calories (assuming you are logging them correctly), you are on track to average about 2lbs loss per week. Gauging if this is a realistic…
  • It takes work for women to build muscle and you generally can't do it if you are eating with a calorie deficit. You can try to recomp - although it is a slow process. General idea is you plug your info in the MFP for maintenance, eat that many calories and lift heavy. You need patience.
  • The un-tracked weekends can be an issue. Don't beat yourself up about what you eat, as long as it satisfies you. I fit chocolate and ice cream into my week, but log it. I think around 2000 calories is a totally reasonable calorie goal, and gives you lots of room for nuts and chocolate. Just honestly track (including…
  • I had a 200 cal piece of cake today, it was store bough and not worth it. The higher the calories the tastier the cake, lol.
  • You can eat a chocolate bar and still lose weight as long as you are still in a calorie deficit. Stick to a number and accurately and honestly track the calories for a while, allow 'indulgences' within your calorie budget but don't go over the calorie budget. If you are still not losing after 4-6 weeks at that calorie then…
  • Double check your settings in fitbit - your height and weight correct? Because it seems to be giving you very high burns for your size. Don't eat all your exercise calories. Eat some of them and then, like I said before, adjust if you aren't getting the results you want. You are an experiment of one, it might take some…
  • That is a bit of an exaggeration, I'm a 235 lb women and I can burn 2,000 calories if I run like 3 hrs and 20 mins at an easy pace (which I have done, and got a my burn from my chest-strap heart-rate monitor) I don't need to do an Ironman.
  • But you manually log your weight training into MFP, correct? If yes, stop doing it, MFP overestimates. A fitbit is still an estimate. The most reliable measure is are you losing weight over the long term? (I use a trendweight that uses daily weights over 4 weeks to determine the trend in my weight. If you are losing at a…
