  • The Gem Wraps sounded intriguing so I checked them out. Sadly, they contain soy (which I cannot have). I did, however, see another alternative in a Coconut Wrap. Good reviews on amazon, so will definitely be checking those out.
  • LOL! Nothing more to say here except maybe troll . . . .
  • Gluten-free all the way! I eat a lot of rice/meat/veg meals. I also eat a lot of tacos with corn tortillas and BIG salads with tons of veggies and a little protein. Basically, whenever I make any type of protein I make extra for a couple meals. Chicken breasts, beef roasts, baked fish. A couple times a week I will make a…

  • Thank you so much for forming the planning group! Plenty of room for others who might want to help out with a winter challenge! @2run2ski - how you (or anyone else) could help is maybe to come up with some challenges based on your home town/state or places you have traveled or want to go. If several people took on a week…

  • Breakfast taco! Scrambled eggs with veggies in a corn tortilla. Add salsa, avocado and cilantro. Kind of a like a sandwich, but the tortilla holds it all in place.
  • There are lots of amazingly healthy options at even the finest restaurants. In fact, due to the portion size some of the finer restaurants actually give you much less in quantity (which they make up for in quality). I recently went on a tropical vacation (holiday) for 9 days with my husband. We ate a lot of fresh fish,…

  • Wow! I'm surprised at the 1-2 weeks in bed recommendation. I had a complete laparoscopic hysterectomy about 3 years ago. They sent me home the next day with Darvocet. I did have 1 additional day of bed rest before I switched to ibuprofen and just started moving around my house doing usual things like cooking and laundry. I…

Hmmmmm. 12/02 - 152.4 - only a .2 loss after 4 days but better than a gain! I was…
  • Most of my "favorite" sayings have already been listed, but here's a few random MFP peeves: People who post on their newsfeed that they just ate a zillion calories at dinner, plus dessert but that's OK. They're not gonna beat themselves up about it. Tomorrow's another day. They'll start in the morning. Then repeat again…
  • Definitely use older eggs. Fresh ones are super tough to peel regardless of the method. I put cold eggs straight out of the fridge in a pot of lukewarm water. Bring to rolling boil on high heat. Remove from heat and cover with lid. Let sit for 15 minutes. (use a timer) Cool using cold tap water. Let sit for about 20…

  • Truly I never even thought about weighing an egg. I just go with the 70 calories in the MFP database. I normally only eat one hard-boiled egg a day, but I do eat several additional egg whites @ 17 calories each. You get the benefit of the extra protein without all the calories. My dogs love the yolks crumbled on their…
  • And here we go!! It felt strange to weigh on a Wednesday. Now I'm going to think it's Friday all day! LOL SW on MFP - 178 GW - 145 Day/Weight/Comment 11/29 - 152.6 (better than I expected after Thanksgiving + leftovers) 11/30 12/01 12/02 12/03 12/04 12/05 12/06 12/07 12/08
  • I'm similar age and height to you - 57 and 5'5". I started MFP at 178 lbs in early 2015 and took a slow and steady approach. My initial goal was 155 and it took me about a year to hit that mark. I wanted it to be attainable. Then when I reached that weight I re-assessed and decided to go for another 10 lbs. I've gotten as…
  • I ran out of butter/margarine and used miracle whip to grill a grilled cheese. I've done it plenty of times since then with either miracle whip or mayonnaise. It grills up really nice due to the oil in the dressing. I've also made garlic bread with mayo and parmesan cheese instead of butter. Delish!
  • From my childhood: Cake milk - chocolate cake with enough milk poured over to make a gloppy mess Dagwood sandwich - mayo/mustard/cheese/bologna on one side, PBJ on the other then put it all together From my grandson: Strawberries and grapes dipped in hummus
  • Hi all! New to this challenge, but not to MFP. I finally got in this one BEFORE the start of the round so going to give it my best shot. I normally weight only once a week (on Friday), but let's see how it goes with changing things up a bit. I'm determined to at least maintain during the holidays, but to lose would be…
  • Exercise to build muscle is the best metabolism booster. For the appetite, eat filling foods so that you're not hungry (protein, fiber-rich fruits/veggies/grains) and drink lots of water. There's really no need to "curb" the appetite. Your body signals your brain when you are hungry and that's how our bodies function…
  • Bravo on opening up and sharing your story! We all have struggles and some are more debilitating than others. My two closest friends both have young sons who are dealing with similar mental health issues including the isolation, paranoia and hearing noises or voices. I'm aware of how painful it is for them. I can't imagine…
  • Some amount of sagging skin is inevitable with weight loss. I believe age and diet also factors into it. If you are younger, your skin contains a lot more collagen and elastin. These decrease as you age. It's a fact of life otherwise we wouldn't get wrinkles as we grow older. I've known very young people who lost a lot of…
  • Another vote for the roasting camp. EVOO and whatever spices suit your fancy. I especially love all the crispy leaves that fall off and get super crunchy. 400 degrees for 20 minutes or less. Best if not overdone. Another way that hasn't been mentioned is to eat them raw in a salad. If you have a food processor or mandoline…
  • Definitely in the egg and veggie scramble camp. I use any that I have including zucchini, peppers, mushrooms, onion (and the dreaded tomato if I grow it myself). Sautee the veggies in a little coconut or olive oil until tender-crisp, add some greens like spinach or arugula for just a minute or so. Throw in a whole egg and…
  • Thank the Lord I was fast asleep for the duration. I got to see pictures afterwards and that was plenty enough for me! Now to just start that scrapbooking project. . . . .
  • Whenever I plan to eat out I get an idea of what's on the menu in advance. (Thank you internet.) Then I make a preliminary choice and fit it into my calories for the day, or close. I never skip meals to save up for the meal out because my body doesn't like that and, as other posters mentioned, adding alcohol to the mix is…
  • I'll definitely give it some more thought and put some ideas together over the next week or so. Probably after Thanksgiving. Any and all suggestions, help, volunteers would be most welcome!
  • I'm still hanging around here hoping for another race! Anyone else still interested? This was one of my favorite challenges and it totally kept me motivated. Perhaps we can put together a planning group to potentially launch a new race after the holidays? It doesn't need to be just one or two people doing all the work.
