  • That's ^^ hilarious! Our pool is closed. Boiler can't keep up with the cold temps we've been having. It's only a little below freezing. I hope they get it sorted today.
  • Feeling your pain @fishgutzy -- just got email that our pool is closed tomorrow due to being 4 degrees too cold because the boilers can't deal with our just-freezing temps. This, while I'm trying to get my bucket list item of swimming in a snowstorm checked off! Last night I really had my hopes up but I did not get snow on…
  • Attempting to picture swimming without eating. I'm failing at that exercise. Had a couple of PRs for short (100y and 200y) distances this week. The water has been pretty cold and it helps to hit the first laps hard to get the blood flowing. There's a chance of swimming in the snow in a couple of days. Hope that happens!
  • One 3600y set in 83 minutes. Achievement unlocked!
  • I'm in Colorado for the week and managed to get to a local indoor pool last night. Water temp was ridiculously high, no lines on the pool bottom and only one lane for lap swimmers. Add in being a mile higher than my home pool and it was all I could do to crank out 1500 very slow gasping yards. And it still felt pretty good…
  • Yeah, the liquor budget is definitely in the black now!
  • 2600 yds, 58 minutes. Three days in a row!
  • 2500 yds, 58 minutes. Light rain and only one other swimmer way over on the other side of the pool. Very nice.
  • Yesterday: 3000 yds, 70 minutes. Haven't done that distance in almost two months and it felt great!
  • 2100 yds in 49 minutes -- finally back in the pool after a couple of stressful weeks.
  • 5 x 100 1500 5 x 100 59 minutes. Toughest I've done.
  • I started bike commuting a few months ago and have cut the swims down to 2-3 weekly, usually 2. Trying to get to the gym three days a week for weights.
  • Having been married for what seems like 642 years, yes. Consider the consequences. And consider them again.
  • MapMyRide is about 40% over on calories based on my heart rate monitor. I otherwise enjoy using it and it syncs nicely with MFP.

  • Here's another vote for the 0 - 1650 plan. When I started swimming regularly 18 months ago I could barely make a single pool length without stopping. Seven weeks later I was able to do the mile. That plan is three days of swimming in a week and it worked quite nicely for me and should work for anyone who has a basic…
  • Calories in vs Calories out. Also known as CICO. Basic physics and chemistry. It works, folks. No magic required.
  • Sorry to hear about your young friend @emmab0902 -- it seems so much harder when they are young. On the up side, I believe that regular pool sessions is the reason I have been getting sick less often. Allergies bother me less as well. I think it's the regular rinsing my sinuses are getting...
  • Not doing very well on biking this month, unlikely to make my goal... 9/9 19.9 miles (commute) 9/21 19.9 miles (commute) 9/25 42.75 (Snoqualmie Pass ride) 9/28 19.9 miles (commute) Total: 102 .. ish
  • 2600 yards, 59 minutes, getting the pace back up but only swimming 3 days/week max lately

  • 3000 in 79 minutes yesterday with no more deteriorating pace... Thank you @emmab0902 for helping me maintain perspective. I don't have any suggestions for your injury but my understanding of such things leads me to believe that rest is the best solution.
  • 2500 in 59 minutes. I'm getting slower!

  • +1 for Garmin Swim. I tried an inexpensive Pebble smart watch first and then when it wouldn't sync regularly, returned it and went to a Garmin Swim watch. That was about a year ago. I wear the Garmin pretty much every day. It's not a fancy watch, but I find I don't forget to put it on when I go to the pool if it's already…
  • Jumped in last night to see how far I could go in an hour. Felt great, and really thought I was killing it. Then ended to find out I'm about where I was a year ago, despite pushing quite hard (for me) in the middle 1500. So... 2550y in 58 mins. Despite that disappointment, it was a very pleasant evening with uncrowded…
  • Go to your local shelter and you'll likely see a predominance of pit mixes. Tens of thousands are killed every year because they can't find homes. They can be a wonderful breed, but so many irresponsible owners are out there. We really don't need more backyard breeders creating litters that often end up in the shelters. My…
  • I would not rush to neuter unless you're seeing serious aggression issues. Yes, you will need to do it -- as someone said, we don't need more pitties -- but waiting until he's more fully developed seems to be the way to go to avoid future health complications. A gonadectomy will remove the source of hormones that are…
  • Most vets won't be much help for obedience issues, other than maybe referring to a local trainer/school. Definitely get some training help with basic obedience in a class setting. It will allow your dog to be around other dogs and stay focused. And no, they don't need to sniff and mark that much once they understand that…
  • 3100 today, slowish pace but a lane to myself and worked on bilateral breathing. That means sinuses are well rinsed. 8150 yds for the week. Slowly getting back to having chlorine as a macro.
  • 2500 in 60 minutes. Felt fast but clearly was not.
