I now have a drawer of ridiculously large t-shirts from events I've done in the past. I don't want to get rid of them because I had fun at those, but when I put them on, I look like a hobo that robbed a thrift store and ended up with a night shirt. (this message is not making fun of hobos, or thrift stores, both of which I…

I have been in similar situations in the last year and understand how difficult it can be to stay on track when spending so much time in a place where you can't prepare your own food. Here are some ideas that helped me: * Buy fruit and have it on hand * Jerky (if you eat meat) is portable, shelf-stable and all protein. *…

Happy New Year to you all! I still follow this thread even though it takes an extra click or two to find it. The camaraderie, humor and support is inspiring. Here's to a progress-filled New Year!

That's a great swim! I can only dream of doing 1:50/100 for ... 2x100 yards. Still working and I will be at the pool tomorrow. Went AWOL for a couple of days with New Years Eve and Day which we celebrate enthusiastically around here but it's time to get back on track.

2 miles on christmas eve, a PR, and 2500 under an hour last night. The power went out and the pool was closed while they got it back up to temp.

Made my goal of two miles on 12/23. But cramping was so bad I'm not loving it. Had to stop a number of times to stretch out calf muscles. And yeah, I was drinking water and yeah I had a banana that morning and yes, I even put mustard on the banana. Very frustrating. I'd like to get that distance without stopping. (Mustard…

@emmab0902 looks like a great workout. Do you go in with a workout like that pre-planned or do you have a coach telling you the sets? Last night was 2500y in something like 57 minutes. Pace is sloowly improving. We're sitting a young dog for a few days, probably going to be doing more walking over the next few days if he's…

After pushing myself lately, took the last couple of days off out of the pool. I think it made a difference and am looking forward to some quality aqua time tomorrow. It may snow later in the week and hoping it does because that should be an interesting experience.

The Garmin Swim can track your kickboard drills as well. It's just a few extra steps to put it in drill mode, and once you've completed the drill, you enter the distance. Here's the info it collected from last night as displayed in the Swim.com app: The weird 2nd drill data is from turning around in the middle of the pool…

A few intervals last night, trying to bump up the pace. 2100 yards. First session with the fins (100y) was fine, then did a few 100y sprints (for me) and when I put the fins back on, had to stop before 25y due to foot/calf cramps. Pretty sure dehydration not an issue as I loaded up with water throughout the day and kept…

Great pace for that distance; I'm envious as well and trying to work up (or is it down) to 2 minutes per 100y. I love my Garmin Swim and enjoy seeing the accumulated weekly distance at the bottom of the display when I'm doing other things, like being stuck at work :) I think the metrics are definitely useful when tracking…

Tried my new fins last night. First set of 200 felt good and it was fun rocketing through the water. When I used them again later in the session, got a terrible cramp in one of my calves and had to give up and quit early. This was not like the cramps I've regularly dealt with, it was related to using the fins. I guess I…

got my Finis fins today, had to rush out and do a swim. I relished the feeling of swimming "so fast" on the first 300 but later when I tried another round, the calf cramps set in before I could finish 100 yards and I had to stop sooner than I wanted. I took the fins off and got a decent cardio workout for the evening. Any…

I really like my Garmin Swim watch, congrats on your new swimming partner. I ordered some training fins that should be here in a few days. It was a challenge finding them in my size. Most of the rest of me has gotten smaller, but not my feet.

That's funny, I had the same experience today. Broke up what would usually be one long session with some 100y sprints in the middle and ended up improving my overall pace by nearly 5 sec/100. Overall 3000 yards in 73 minutes. Cold (40F), windy and rainy today. Perfect for swimming  Now if they'd get the heater in the…

Wow, that is really too warm. Is it a community pool? I thought our club pool was too warm but that is way too hot for a workout.

Thanks for the info. I think I'd find all the gear distracting but clearly this guy has a plan, and like I said, he's quite fast. I did not consider fins to be a way to improve kick. I would have just gone for a kickboard without fins. Same thing with the float -- just don't kick. In the summer there were a couple of women…

I took today off as a work day from home. That really means I can get in the pool for a longer lap swim at noon. 3000 yards in a time I'm happy with. But what is amusing (to me) is the guy who must be training for a triathalon or the like who is constantly putting on fins or taking them off or otherwise futzing with…

We are having some pretty heavy rains in the Seattle area. My swim tonight (only one other person in the pool) was a little distracting due to the big cold drops falling on my back. But it's great for not getting overheated. 2600 yards in an hour, not feeling like pushing it too much and no bilateral breathing. I know I…

Yes, heated outdoor pool at a neighborhood/private club. A couple of high schools and a youth swim club use it all winter long, and lap swim is offered three times daily during the week and once a day on weekends.
-
As an IT worker, I should have been suspicious. My Garmin Swim watch did not accurately record my last laps trying to deal with leg cramps and mis-reported my time. That said, I did make an improvement, but not nearly that dramatic. Today I did not swim, did some very brisk walk/jogging instead for five miles.

A nice rainy day at the pool with cool temps in the 40s (F). Started with some speed work and got my PR for 100y down by 30 (thirty) seconds. Was also going to try for two miles by calf/foot cramps put an end to my session and had to stop at 3250 yards in 78 minutes.

2650y in 61 minutes two nights in a row. Trying to get 3000 in the hour that I have for evening swim but I've apparently hit a limit that will take a different approach to overcome. Ideas are welcome!

Not NSV: Spent four days driving over 2600 miles and six at a conference and returned home with a 2.5 pound loss. NSV: Doing laundry much more often now that I don't have many clothing options that fit.

After ten days of travel and conference, I was excited to get back in my "home" pool yesterday. So excited that I forgot my goggles and had to go back to the locker room to get them after the first 50. 3000 yards in 71 minutes, slowish pace and crowded pool on a crisp and sunny morning.
-
I'm in Colorado for a conference and found a place to swim. It was all I could do to get 1400 yards in 35 minutes. Toto, we're not at sea level any more!
-
3300 yards in 75 minutes, a new PR for distance and pace. @NoelFigart1 -- do you use a special suit for open water?
-
A slow session last night. A lot of soreness from trying to run the previous day. 2500 yds in 65 minutes. Nice clear evening and only one other person in the pool.
-
Sorry to hear about your shoulder issues, @emmab0902 -- it sure sounds like a re-start is needed. Yesterday I celebrated my birthday with a 3000 yd swim and then ran/walked 3.5 miles. All that just to go to dinner with no boundaries. It worked out nicely.
