  • Awesome work, very well done. Congrats! (and you're beautiful! all the way through those photos)
  • @juliet3455 flip turns freak me out -- I was doing them a year ago but now I'm less interested than ever. Since I'm working toward an open water swim this summer, I don't worry about them. But I know I would get faster times... conflicted. Tonight I thought I was going to break my PR on 1500 yds from last January but came…
  • I don't know your backstory (and am not asking for it) but one of my revelations from about a year ago was that I had to be "selfish" in terms of making time for getting my workouts done. Making the change to using time for myself was a big deal, even though the "me" time when I was fat was wasted. Friends and family may…
  • Swam Friday evening (2200y) and Saturday morning (2500y). Working on getting a new PR for 1500y, hope to be there this week.
  • Unfocused session with wild swings in my pace. 2500y in 56 minutes. I'm not spending consecutive days doing laps as I've started commuting by bicycle and not fit enough to do laps after the hour long ride home. Perhaps later in the summer...
  • meh swim but after a lot of days (maybe seven?) off, glad to stay close to pace. 2200 yards in something like 50 minutes. After a bonus weekend of beer and food, happy to have it. Get those lungs back in shape, @fishgutzy -- take yer time
  • I would not count it as exercise. Yes, you've reduced your weight, but it's going to come back over a short amount of time. You will notice that after donating whole blood you will be more tired. You will have reduced strength and endurance for at least 24 hours. I have experienced this and it's not fun. When they say…
  • You are closing in on doing that 3k in an hour! Also my goal. I find that swimming next to someone faster affects my pace. Now to find an hour...bus was late getting me home last night so I could only do a short swim. 1500y in 32 minutes.
  • No heart condition -- but I've got a terminal case of wimpiness!
  • Just checked online -- water temperature at the lake is 56F (13C) -- going to have to find a wetsuit if I'm getting in that!
  • Fantastic swim report @aliciamariaq -- thanks for sharing and congrats on your success. Had a nice hour long session on Saturday, back on pace. I think the cycling is helping get me going. Now I'm looking at another four days away camping. If the lake isn't too cold I may give some open water swimming a try.
  • Good swims, everyone. The triathlon training sounds very interesting, @juliet3455, if not a little scary. Excellent job on the 3K, @montepulciano. I had 12 days out of the pool and finally got in last night. 2550 in 60 minutes -- have to build pace back up but since I'm biking most every weekday, I will probably slack off…
  • No swimming in the past week due to travel (and eating, let's be honest, it was a trip to New Orleans). While I was gone the evening lap swim time changed to an hour earlier which I failed to plan for today. My back would really like some laps... Love the evil kickboard comments. I see many of the "seasoned" swimmers and…
  • Wow, Are you used to doing coaching? I would like to help others, but not sure I'm ready for that step. That said, I ended my swim early today and was sitting up on the deck where I could watch the lap swimmers from above today and felt like there was a lot of very basic advice I could give to some of those in the pool…
  • Today was our work party at the pool -- all families have to contribute two hours or pay an extra fee. I did an hour of shoveling and hauling beauty bark and then (after a shower, of course) got in the pool for laps. 1900 yards in 42 minutes.
  • I bought a bike today when I was at work. I rode it home ten miles. In jeans on a (for us) warm day. Didn't die. A year ago this wasn't so much a challenge -- it was inconceivable. Now I have a new commute option that will also get me cardio.
  • Haven't used it because my keys are only in two possible places (pocket or key hook at home) but this Tile thing looks pretty cool. Confession: I just lied... I actually did misplace my key today. Gave it to a guy as security for a bike test ride. And then I bought the bike and rode away, leaving my car key there. Figured…
  • Properly done. I'm due for a trip to brisket land. Hoping for a finished photo!
  • 2750 in 61 minutes. I sneak in a few minutes before "official" lap swim time -- I know the coaches for the youth swim team and they actually clear a lane for me before they really have to, which I appreciate (taking them for drinks next week). I'm stuck at this speed, though, which I have to break through. Seems so close…
  • I am terrible at keeping track of my distance. Like many other things in my life that I'm terrible at, I bought some technology to help me. I have a Garmin Swim watch that works quite well. REI has it on sale right now for a good price. It has a bunch of features that I find useful and can automatically sync with MFP…
  • Yes, funny how that works. It can feel good to "beat" someone even though it's not really a race (yes it is, every lap). Even when I'm swimming next to someone who clearly can kick my butt, I think I probably push a little more vs being out there by myself. I love getting passed by the youth swim teams kids on their…
  • Short answer: still getting cramps at the 2500 yard mark (+ or - 200 yards). Possible solution ahead. Longer answer: I have not mentioned it in this group, so I will now. I went to a sports doc last week after having months of pain in my Achilles down near my heel. Over the last winter and early spring, I ramped up my…
  • wow. Just amazing. I am working so hard on being smooth, I can't imagine moving my arms that quickly. Tonight's stats had me averaging just under 60 spm for my first set at my fastest pace. Cruising pace is more like 48 spm. I guess it's time for more sprint intervals?
  • Pool was coming back to temp after a boiler failure last night. Got in, gasped for breath and then ripped off personal records for 50, 200, 400, and 800 yards. 2650 yards total in 59 minutes swim time -- kind of overdid it in the first half of the hour. Even at my fastest pace, the young (pre-teen and teen) kids working…
  • Very nice swim, there. I too have a guy that likes to "race" at lap swim. A year ago I couldn't do anything about it but now it's a different story. Fun to let him start catching up and then pull away.
  • I like the sound of that. Did my first weight room session in more than 35 years yesterday and looking forward to getting in the pool tonight!
  • 2550 yards, 57 minutes. Had to split a lane much of that time, which is a big distraction for me.
  • 2550 yds 56 minutes. One of those swims that felt fast but was just the new average.
  • 2550 yards in under an hour. Thought I was speedier than usual, but same pace. That's ok -- progress is just minor improvements past whatever "normal" is. Distracted by irritating sprinter guy in next lane but I didn't slow enough to let him pass, so it's a win.
  • Well done on the loss, that is awesome! For my first year, I would answer questions about "how much" with evasive answers or strange units like "I've lost a toddler" -- made the questioners laugh and change the subject. When I got up around three toddlers lost, I tried answering truthfully a few times but the reactions…
