  • That is indeed awesome. Glad you found a reasonable place for lap time. I gave blood two days ago. Last night's swim was slightly off-pace: 2500 yards in 58 minutes.
  • I have been trying all kinds of things, including mustard and MIO. Still get cramps and spasms, even with the MIO. My goal is to be able to do the distance without stopping to rest/drink in order to try a cross-lake (Lake Washington) swim later this year. 3100 is the farthest I've gone without cramps, so it's progress of a…
  • 3700 yards in 86 minutes. Was trying for a single set of two miles but calf cramps thwarted me at the 3100 yard mark.
  • I did that informally with a friend last summer. We shared a Google Drive spreadsheet to track our progress to 50 miles. It was a fun way to build distance. But we called a mile 1780 yards :)
  • Was going for a PR for 1500 yards but didn't quite get it. 2600 yards in 58 minutes. Maybe tomorrow...
  • 2750 yds 61 minutes. Picked up the pace ever so slightly, occasionally working on better timed kicks and improved arm position.
  • This is where I'd try to fit in a joke about one armed swimming in a circular lane...but I got nothing. Yes, my numbers are from my Garmin. Thanks for the clarification. So I'm really cruising at around 44-46 spm.
  • I think in order to get past the "light/moderate" MFP is looking for a pace that's somewhere around 1:30/hundred yards. Can't remember where I saw that, though. When I started in the pool last year, I'd log half the time as light/moderate and half as fast/vigorous but I stopped doing that after I saw that delineation. My…
  • I didn't look at my stroke rate until I saw this thread. I'm averaging 23/minute and up to nearly 30 when I'm going all out. I can't imagine doubling or tripling that as I'm sure my technique (such as it is) would fly apart. My numbers are from my watch which is pretty accurate at counting the distance so I believe the…
  • 2600 yds 60 minutes. One more month and then the pool moves to summer hours, which is a PITA for evening swim starting at the awkward time of 6 pm.
  • Went to help a friend do some work on his cabin. Last time I used my tool belt, well over two years ago, it had been maxed out on the last holes. I adjusted my belt five times yesterday and still did not get a good fit. Moved at least seven holes in and couldn't get comfortable. I think my cheap tool belt is not long for…
  • Awesome work!
  • @clh72569 have you found the MFP swimmer group? Pretty friendly bunch. And 90 minute pool sessions are impressive!
  • Back home after three days at a conference. 2600 yds in an hour. Light rain and kinda glad I didn't bother with the hotel pool that I used a year ago. No markings and I'm swimming a bit faster so I don't think it would have worked out well...
  • 62 minutes but quite a few breaks for 2600 yards. Had to share a lane which I thought put me off my pace but I maintained what is (for me) a good average of 2:14/100y
  • Not something we want to brag about, but ... yeah!
  • Well done. This dialogue has to happen for those of use looking for a lifestyle change. And it will be a dialogue that is not only well-rehearsed, it's going to feel boring. So what, it's what we're doing FOREVER.
  • No idea. I think I was well-hydrated. Seeing a sports doc in a couple of weeks...
  • @NoelFigart1 : oh my, that had to be difficult. I remember swimming in the river when I was a kid in early summer, all snow melt coming out of the Sierras and it literally takes your breath away. 50F is dang cold! So my legs were doing exactly what's in this YouTube video after my swim today. It is oddly disturbing seeing…
  • @fishgutzy: once again I'm in awe of your workouts. Today I completed my longest swim ever: 3600 yards in 81 minutes. Afterward the muscles in my lower legs were randomly twitching for about 30 minutes. Didn't hurt but sure felt (and looked) strange. I drank two servings of Mio during my swim and only fought off a cramp…
  • Your xyphoid is at the bottom of your sternum. Mine pokes out now as well, I think it's from being fat for so long as I don't recall it protruding 30 years ago...
  • Nice work UG!
  • Finally back in the pool after ten days out due to a stubborn cold. Speaking of cold, the pump went out over the weekend and water was still coming back to temp. First laps were rippin' fast trying to keep warm. Fast for me, that is. Set PRs for 50, 100 and 200 distances. 2650 yards in an hour.
  • Good swims, everyone. I decided to keep my snotty viruses out of the pool this weekend so my sole cardio was 30 minutes yanking on the mower for its first outing yesterday.
  • Yeah, I've taken links out of my solitary nice watch twice now and it still rattles around. Frustrating yet satisfying.
  • I hate when they close the pool for weather. It is VERY rare to have t-storms around here and I think they are hyper-safe about shutting down the pool when there's a little rumble out there. But because it's so infrequent, maybe once or twice a summer, it's not that bad. Hope you got your miles in. I had a productive…
  • Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. This is a fantastic group. Swimmers are the best. I did 65 minutes without stopping and no cramps at all. Felt some coming on toward the end but they never fully developed. I drank a lot of water prior to jumping in ... probably 2.5 liters before hitting the pool. Also did…
  • I find that sriracha usually makes everything better.... (Yes, I have an emergency supply at work)
  • Nice work there!
  • Yes I do stretching, have tried a bunch of variations. Maybe I'm not doing them right? I hydrate a lot before a pool session, usually at least a quart on top of all the water I drink during the day. Have been stopping to drink during the swim as well. I tried magnesium supplements but considering potassium now as a banana…
