  • If you are always hungry, increase your protein intake and cut up some veggies to munch on. It's the best solution I found for my own hunger issues as I got closer to goal.
  • Got a comment yesterday about my pretty biceps. Didn't realize they actually showed yet  Bought a pair of size 8 (CAN) pants recently. Already at my goal size, what? So awesome  I realized I was always hungry and since I didn't have enough snacks in my lunchbox I would turn to the candy bar machine. So last…
  • I use the TDEE methos so I don't log or eat back my exercise calories, EXCEPT when I go for a 50+ km bike ride or a day long hike. Then I'll eat dinner until satiated, and usually I end up eating 1/3 to 1/2 of my exercise calories back (over my usual calorie goal).
  • Not an expert on crossfit, but I think both will be intense calorie burners, require power and endurance. Kickboxing requires good technique to maximize power of your hits. Heavy lifting also requires technique to get maximum lift. Kickboxing won't give you much hypertrophy, nor will it increase your max strength beyond a…
  • 5'8'' 168 pounds. Just bought a bunch of new clothes, pants are size 8(!!!), shirts medium, though that depends on the cut because I have wide shoulders and big thighs. Still looking to lose 10 pounds and I would love to lose a couple inches off my thighs!
  • I have leg cramps pretty easily and what keeps them at bay is a few supplements of magnesium. So definitely watch your potassium, getting enough is essential, but maybe look into having a magnesium supplement see if it helps.
  • Excellent work!
  • At the start in January, I was already exercising 5 times a week, 2x kickboxing and 3x badminton, but my diet was holding me back. It wasn't total crap, but I would eat cafeteria food 2-3 times a week and have big portions at home. This last 6 months is 70% the result of getting my nutrition under control. A LOT of protein…
  • Hi vismal! BritBoogaloo inspired me to also post a pic of my progress here, since this thread and your youtube channel have really been a big help on my journey. Your no nonsense attitude helped me stay focused on the basics - stick to your calories and watch the overall trend - and not get distracted with minor details…
  • Another thunder thighs, started with 28 inch, now just under 26... and though it's a big difference they still look a little out of proportion. But their shape is loads better, and if I'm gonna have big thighs, I'm gonna have the squat PR that goes with them :D

  • This is my 6 month milestone, 30 pounds off. Actually took the pictures then forgot about them a few days. I did not realize the changes were so evident...
  • No BW, the warmup was skip rope/ shadowboxing, then stretches. We occasionnaly had push ups to do but mostly focused on technique. Yup, learned the hard way! Now my nutrition is tracked and under control :) I train with a very mixed bag, so I have to adapt with sparring. It's a University class so not everyone has the same…
  • It was similar for me. The first 10 pounds took 10 weeks, as expected, but it felt sooo much slower than that. Changing the habits and building new ones require effort, and the few pounds lost don't feel very rewarding...yet. The 10 to 25 pounds lost were a breeze. The habits were there, the scale number and measurements…
  • I've been doing Kickboxing (mix of Muay Thai, Olympic Boxing and a bit of Jeet Kun Do) for 4 years now. I was going through different fitness classes at University trying to find something that kept me motivated. That did the trick! I stuck to only kickboxing and badminton for 3 years. I got fitter, but didn't lose weight…
  • The original definition of the gram was defined by the mass of a volume of water, namely, a mL. So 100 mL of water weighs 100 g. This doesn't hold for alcohol and oil. Milk being almost all water, a little fat and a little protein, you can certainly use the 1 g = 1 mL equivalency, but it won't hold for oil. Alcohol is…
  • The easy answer is you don't really know until you have a healthier one... There is a lot of variation from person to person, and microbiome research is still in early stages. But what has been observed is that microbiome can change within a week with a diet change. And there has been experiments with rats where they gave…
  • This is something that worked for me. Because of a very carb based diet, the gut microbiome tends to become unhealthy with not enough variety. To fix that, my coach suggested sauerkraut (not cooked and not pasteurized) and milk kefir (unflavored, add fruits, honey or maple syrup to sweetened, that way you control the…
  • I squatted 105 lbs (yay for 3 digits) and beat my 5k running PR. Broke out of a weight loss stall by starting to measure everything!!! Congrats everyone on your excellent work!!!!
  • I occasionally have the same thing, especially with salt :) I'll roast potatoes in the oven with a little oil and add extra salt. Also fresh cucumber with salt is pretty great. I also really like kombucha when I am craving minerals. For sugar, I'll usually turn to dark chocolate, though I'll sometimes make dessert. An…
  • I have rarely seen this explained so clearly and succintly. Thank you! For me, I started with the fitness, thinking I'd lose weight without working on my nutrition. Nope. Body composition changed a little, but no weight loss. Got serious about nutrition at the beginning of the year and I'm approaching 30 lbs lost. And wow,…
  • 5'8'' SW - 200 - 30.4 GW - 160 - 24.3 Once I get there I'll decide what to do, but the closer I get to my goal (at 172 right now) the more I think I'll transition to maintenance and recomp. That last few months have taught me that what I really want is to be strong and able to do whatever I want without being help back by…
  • I take 2-3 capsules of 150 mg magnesium citrate per week. I started taking it to deal with cramps. Not menstrual cramps but "my calf is about to rip itself in two" cramps when I would work out. Magnesium and lots of water keep them away. I have stopped the magnesium a couple times (forgetful, lol) and within 2-3 weeks…
  • My coach had us all start with box squats. Get a box (I used a rigid ottoman, not too much cushion) and sit down on the box. Get back up. Incorporate all the tips from previous posts : - Chest up - Hands forward - Hips back - Weight on the heel/mid-foot The box can be high to start with but eventually lower it to knee…
  • I am fitter than I have ever been in my life, that is an undeniable fact. But until recently I didn't consider myself fit. But then, in the span of a few weeks, people have offhandedly commented about my being "athletic". Not as a compliment, as a fact in a conversation in which they weren't necessarily addressing to me.…
  • I actually feel less hungry now than I did before I started my weight loss. My meal plan is very protein centric. Breakfast 95% of mornings is eggs, bacon and kefir. Since I've been doing that my energy levels are much more stable and my hunger grows slowly, instead of a sudden EAT NOW feeling. I've noticed that now when I…
  • 6 months and 2 weeks, and 28 pounds... deja vu, lol!
  • Congratulations everyone! Went on a 2 week vacation and did something active everyday without being overly tired - Came back a pound lighter (After plane/travel water weight came off) Over the last few weeks, people have off handedly commented how athletic I was. Was about to correct them but actually, hell yeah I do a lot…
  • All good advice, no need to rush. Another approach would be to increase your calories directly instead of reducing your goal. Increasing by 100-200 calories means getting a ~ 1.2 lbs a week of weight loss and that might be your sweet spot for a while. Nothing says you need to jump directly from 1.5 to 1 lbs a week. Just a…
  • Not an expert, but here's what I know about water weight. Because you changed your diet (I think) you're body is readjusting how much water it needs to function. I'm assuming you are eating less, so your body needs less water in the digestive tract to keep things rolling. Also, if you've cut back on carbs and sodium, the…
  • When I came back from a 4 month internship the first thing my mother said was how fat I had gotten. So I signed up for a cardio class, then another, then joined the badminton club. Tried MFP for a few months with mitigated success. Lost a little, didn't keep it off. Over 2-3 years my physical condition improved greatly,…
