  • Last night's TANDOORI, baby, and it was DELICIOUS! I did a whole 4-lb chicken, skinned. This recipe calls for a marinade that includes yogurt and butter, and I used Greek 0% yogurt and Light (50% fat) butter. It's difficult to pinpoint the calories because so much of the marinade ends up being discarded, but by my…
  • Garlic in almost everything, Katrina. (I'm Italian.) After we moved to the semi-rural Kansas City area, I was buying garlic at the store one day, when an old woman tapped my arm and told me she had never eaten garlic in her life. She asked me what it was like. Can you EVEN??? She was so sweet. I said, "Well then, I wonder…
  • It's insanely expensive, like $6 a loaf at our grocery store. I don't believe "bread is bread" at all, but I think the Ezekiel people, Bible verses on the package notwithstanding, are laughing all the way to the bank.
  • Careful eating crap! One of our dogs gained 3 pounds unexpectedly and we later realized it was because he was eating...crap. So now I clean up the yard every day... :o

  • I would ask all those questions of your doctor, not on a public forum. Other peoples' experiences might be interesting, but they're not necessarily going to be your experiences. Congratulations, and I hope all goes smoothly!
  • Here's mine and it's awesome. Southwest Chicken Chile Soup Makes 8 servings, 259 cal. each/ 2 g. fat / 33 g carbohydrate 7 C. Swanson fat free low sodium chicken broth. 3 c. cubed cooked white meat chicken (can use canned if it's drained) 1 can chipotle corn or Mexican corn (1.5 C.) 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained 1…
  • Wow, even many people with Type 2 diabetes are advised to have 130g of carbs per day, divided evenly between three meals. Some can even have more than that.
  • Sure, one pound of muscle weighs the same as one pound of fat, just like a pound of feathers weighs the same as one pound of iron. But when it comes to the volume of weight versus fat, sure, you can lose inches without losing pounds, to a point:…
  • Those black bean quesadillas look wonderful!! And that website is amazing, something I've often thought of doing because I scratch cook and can do it on a shoestring. I'm saving that, not just to refer to, but to link to people who say they can't cook or can't afford to eat well. THANKS!
  • Thanks! I just a hope about growing food doesn't violate any off-topic rules. I love game hen eggs. A coworker of my husband's raises guinea hens and sends home eggs every now and then. They're wonderful! But getting used to that really hard shell was a surprise. So, how many quail eggs would be the equivalent in…
  • You're 19, you want to lose 13 pounds, and if you're losing 1kg per week, that's just over 2 pounds. If you can lose 2 pounds per week and only be looking to lose 13 total, you might be setting your weekly goal too aggressively. Be realistic about your expectations. Eat more and get your nutrition. If you feel weak, you're…
  • A cup of water is 8 oz. Liquid measuring cups are based on the weight of water. You could measure out a cup of honey, and it would weigh more than 8 oz.
  • I know! Who knew you could start a fight in a weight loss forum by using the phrases "bad foods" and"clean eating" and citing peer-reviewed research that concludes sugar is as addictive as cocaine?
  • Here in NE Kansas, we have a pretty narrow window for growing cooler - weather things like lettuce, spinach, CILANTRO (love it). It gets too hot too quickly. How wonderful to have the use of a tractor to disc your plot! Soil prep is the hardest part of growing food, but the most important if you want a good crop.
  • You don't say "Aww, screw it, might as well keep eating more junk," because that's what landed you here. It's what landed me here, too. That's like punishing yourself with food, and it's unhealthy in a number of ways.
  • ^^^ That's really beautiful!! What is the square pan of what looks like fried eggs? It's making me hungry!
  • Me too, but I had started to lose two months before I flunked the FG blood test. Have you spoken to your doctor about meal options, plans, and individual foods to avoid? You could cause some harm if you try to lose too quickly, so shoot for a reasonable amount, about 2 pounds per week. One thing you should keep in mind on…
  • Okay, not an Extension article, but my experience is that Gardenweb forums are fairly reliable: http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/1457563/blackberries-and-raspberries-death-together
  • Sharkgirl, I'll find out for you. In the meantime, I'm posting a link from Maine Extension Services. Always always always get the most reliable info from an Extension website or your local Extension office. Every county should have one. Before you replant, make sure you didn't lose your berry bushes to verticillium, a…
  • ^^^ I agree. Changing the timing of my meals has helped me so much. I'll have a filling breakfast around 9-9:30, lunch around 1:30 or later, and dinner at 6:30 or 7. Some days I have an afternoon snack, some days not. I rarely snack in the mornings now. By the time I go to bed around 10PM, I'm still satisifed form dinner.
  • I don't really by the "metabolism boosting" claims made by any marketers. I have never seen any scientific evidence that those claims hold any water. The foods might be healthy, but do they speed your metabolism so you lose faster? I'd bet the farm that they don't. I like a yogurt and fruit smoothie a couple times a week,…
  • Mine is not open because I don't believe there is a way to open it only to a group, and I'm not being antisocial, but I don't really want to do friends on MFP. I have two or three, but I keep track of so many FB friends already. I sure don't want to open it up to everybody. They'd see my diary and flame me for not eating…
  • Oh wow, Brianna! You have a terrific variety there! And honey! There is nothing like honey from the hive. You must spend a lot of time pruning those berry thickets. I've never grown celery, but I've heard it is so much better than commercial celery. I've started to root it in a dish of water indoors, but it never really…
  • I was just telling my husband this morning that when I was about 6 or 7, I was a cucumber junkie. When my favorite aunt visited, she brought candy for my brothers and always a huge cucumber for me, and I always felt I got the best gift. Funny how my tastes changed!
  • Well, well, WELL. I thought it was just ME! Well, me and my childhood friend who introduced me to peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches! People laugh, but we know better, don't we??? The last one I had was about three months ago. ::::sigh::::
  • Hahahaha -- automatic moderation, I see! ***** = female dog. What a great Stones song.
  • I have almost no tolerance for music I don't care for, and it can be a problem. It's as though someone is pouring acid in my ears. So years ago when I joined Curves, I just couldn't stand all the 80s Donna Summer-type music they blasted all the time. I wasn't looking for a reason to stop going. I just dreaded going.
  • Old school: Bowie, U2, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Clash, Queen, The Cure, and when the Stones' "*kitten*" comes on, I move twice as fast.
  • Be careful growing mint. It's a thug that spreads everywhere. Growing it in containers is recommended, to keep it confined.
  • BINGO. It's no one's business if I haven't friended them, and I'm not to interested in having a ton of friends on MFP. For much of my life, my mom dogged me about what I had eaten each day. Needless to say, her obsession backfired. So I have issues with sharing my food diary. I only feel accountable to myself. If people…
