  • If you cut out most of what you call "junk", if you drink enough water and keep your calories down, you liver and kidneys will automatically cleanse your system. They are doing that even when you're eating badly; they just don't have to work as hard when you eat well. Better fuel in your tank means you will feel better…
  • I've been a scratch cook my whole life because my mom was a Depression-era farm girl who taught me to cook by the time I was 12. She had such a thing against processed and premade foods, and it bugged me in my youth, but I'm grateful for that now. So I look at premade foods, pick them up, realize the packaging makes them…
  • OMG, sooooo going to make that!! Thanks!
  • Being a gardener and a soil science geek, I thought something sounded odd here. From the wiki page in the attached link: "Humic and fulvic acids (fulvic acids are humic acids of lower molecular weight and higher oxygen content than other humic acids) are commonly used as a soil supplement in agriculture, and less commonly…
  • I do salmon on a (soaked) cedar plank on the grill, seasoned with Paul Prudhomme's Salmon Magic spice blend. It's moist, it's delicious, I wish we could afford to have it three times a week!
  • Tonight's Southwest Chicken Chile Soup. Eight servings, less than 300 calories each, my husband's favorite. Chicken tenders, 16 oz (raw) Can of drained black beans Can of Chipotle corn Large box of Swanson low-sodium chicken broth (or homemade) 1 C. diced onion 1 C. chopped celery Can of diced green chiles 2 med. cans…
  • I put blueberries and cinnamon in mine. Didn't help at all. The dogs were furious that I threw them out.
  • I tried these the other day. I know someone who just loves them, so I took her advice. People have different tastes, I guess, because I thought they were awful.
  • I don't think so. What makes it a frozen concoction is the frozen fruit. When it all processes together, it turns into a soft-serve consistency.
  • You know what people always said to me when I was gaining weight? They would ask me if I had LOST weight. It didn't take me long to figure out that they were just fishing for me to say, "Oh God no, I've gained SO much!" Then they'd sheepishly tell me it didn't show, and it got awkward from there. I agree with those who say…
  • I don't know about freezing anything with rice. Not potatoes either, and it has little to do with freezer burn. Whether or not you create an airtight seal, there is water in all our foods, and some freeze better than others when that water goes through a freeze-thaw cycle. Rice and potatoes become mealy-textured no matter…
  • My biggest problem has always been compulsion: I think about food, I eat food. Period. Having healthy alternatives ready has been a huge help. One thing that really saves me is making sure I keep up with grocery shopping and always have fruits and veggies prepared and ready to go for snacks, breakfasts, etc. I'm now…
  • I don't care for tilapia because although it seemed really nice when I first bought it years ago, it's now kind of dirty tasting. I love cod because it's a mild fish that is really nice with spices, rubs, lemon, even a little butter and parsley. Cod is also a good fish to use in a seafood jambalaya. Our favorite is orange…
  • I've been through this, and the fear resulted in a massive weight gain -- not right away, but years later. You will always be you, but when you're slimmer, you'll get to experience different things as you come out of your shell. Please remember: You will always be you. And be aware that people will treat you differently,…
  • Can you post a recipe and a nutritional profile for that? I've been making authentic Italian beef my whole life, and I have to say, that's a very unusual way to serve it.
  • I know exactly how you're feeling, and the last time I reached my goal weight, I had a terrible time with that. I was getting way more attention, even to the point of serious sexual harassment (it was 1990). A male coworker stopped me in a hallway and "complimented" me by saying, "Wow, your boobs sure are smaller!" Even my…
  • Give it up. No one with any sense if going to tell you there is anything you can do to enlarge your breasts except gain weight. The only thing you can do is build up your upper body so they don't sag. Make the best of what you've got. And also, try not to focus too much on breast size as something critically important in…
  • Swiping is for Apple. On an Android phone, swiping doesn't do it. You need to press and hold until a flyout menu comes up that allows you to delete it or move it to a different meal.
  • Green beans have always been my favorite, and I'm going to be growing a lot more of them this summer. Roasted broccoli and cauliflower are great, too, but wow -- I've developed a real love of roasted (just w/salt and pepper) butternut squash, which makes a really nice, filling, high fiber snack.
  • Thanks for the input, but there is no way on this earth that tuna salad has that amount of vitamin C. I know what things contain Vitamin C, and tuna salad is not on the list. I'm noticing that my Vitamin C numbers for the entire month are WAY out of whack, and it isn't because I'm taking that much in. We're talking 5-10…
  • I had a terrible cold that started the day after I began MFP a month ago. I was drinking as many fluids as I could, but I was sleeping most of the time. The terrible congestion is fluid, and I had a lot of it in my chest, and the scale indicated that, but once I recovered from the crud, I dropped the weight.
  • Thanks, I didn't see that link before. Now I'm trying to figure out how a serving of tuna salad with tuna, onion, celery, peppers and light mayo can provide 258% of my daily Vit C!! I'm really not trusting some of the info in my reports.
  • I second the cucumber suggestion, and it's especially refreshing in the summer.
  • Cooking Light and MyRecipes are really good, and you can now log their recipes directly into MFP! There's a "Log It" button up near the 'share' and 'email' buttons. That was a nice surprise.
  • Latter Day Saints?
  • ^^^ AGREE!! I will go with the, "Oh you've lost weight, you look great" part, but beyond that, I change the subject. My family always did the opposite to me, calling me fat names and inspecting every bite that went into my mouth. Every night, my mom asked, "What did you eat today?" One day I told her it was none of her…
  • Wow, what an achievement and such an inspiration!! Thanks so much for posting this! You look terrific, by the way!
  • I guess it's a matter of personal preference and what motivates you. For me, the scale gives me feedback on what works and what doesn't. If I'm up a quarter pound or so, I don't get discouraged if I know I'm adhering to my plan. I might increase my water intake, my activity or fiddle with my macros a bit. I don't obsess…
  • Lately I've been driving past fast food places I used to visit, and Quik Trip stores that sell a whole host of delicious junk. Yesterday, I realized I didn't feel tempted to drive into any of those places. It was a great feeling.
  • My grocery store ran a special on Skinny Pop a few weeks ago, and I bought four bags. I agree, it's a very good crunch snack, and at 39 calories a cup, it can be very satisfying. But being a compulsive eater, I found myself eating way too much of it, so when my stash was gone and it wasn't on sale anymore, I didn't buy it…
