Ahhh, lovely and elegant! I'll do that.

Not helpful. Of course fried foods taste amazing. That's why so many people are here.

No, potatoes are not a lot of empty calories. That would be highly processed foods with lots of added sugars and overly processed grains. Potatoes are great, just higher in carbs than most vegetables. They're great just boiled, with a tad bit of butter and parsley, too. You don't need to pile cheese and bacon on a potato…

If you're trying to lose weight or are conscious of your heart health, I'd say don't. It isn't necessary, and in a weight loss forum, I'm sure not going to recommend anyone get into deep frying. I'm a huge cooking nut too, and I got that from my mom, who was a genius in the kitchen. But the one thing we never had in our…

Wait until you see your doctor. Advice from any internet forum might be good, might be not so good, but you never know what applies to you. I've never had any symptoms of diabetes, yet I barely flunked a fasting blood glucose test just this morning. I have no intention of taking advice from anyone who isn't my doctor. Your…

For people with diabetes, I think 45-60g per meal is recommended. If you are pre-diabetic, you need to talk to your doctor about your carbohydrate needs and limits. Also make sure to ask your doctor's feelings on net carbs, because some in the medical community, especially where it applies to diabetes, aren't buying that…

I'm not really crazy about bacon and asparagus though. Bacon is so overpowering, it kind of defeats the purpose of the mild flavor of the asparagus. IMO, anyway. I've never been a big bacon eater, so I didn't really have to give it up for this diet. Plus, it really stimulates my appetite. Last thing I need these days.

You lost almost two stone in two months. By my calculation, that' over 30 pounds. (I started on Jan 13 and am very happy to have lost 16 pounds!) WOW, that is wonderful. I think the only problem you're having is your expectations. They're too high. You can't expect to safely lose more than 2 pounds a week, and anything…

A year ago we bit the bullet and invested in a whole set of really good Wusthoff knives. I had earned those knives. I'v been cooking for over 40 years with bad knives and enough was enough. A great set of knives has made cooking 100% more enjoyable.

I'm also trying to stay in the ballpark with my macros, so I log my dinner or biggest meal first. Then breakfast, my favorite meal. I then tweak my lunch choices and snacks to get close to my macro numbers.

I still don't condone the mob mentality and ganging up on people who post here when they're at their lowest point and emotionally frayed. I think some threads devolve into mocking and LOLing right away. Some people just come here knowing nothing and looking for people with similar experiences. Good for you for coming back,…

Kidneys are disgusting. They stink up your house for days. I know they're popular in the UK, but gawd, they're awful. I once got the idea I'd cook them for our dogs. ONCE. Never ever again.

Here is what I make on weekends, and my husband LOVES it. To the oatmeal (which I cook in lowfat milk), I add a diced apple, a pinch of salt, a good shake of cinnamon, and a couple tablespoons of Craisins. Sometimes I sprinkle slivered almonds on top. If we want extra sweetness, I'll drizzle maple syrup or honey on his,…

Seriously, I am not mocking you here. Don't buy anything that is associated with Jillian Michaels, Dr. Phil or Dr. Oz. They're in it to make a fortune off the backs of people who can't really afford to keep buying their products. These are all snake oil salesmen, and even if part of what they advise is true, a lot of it…

Okay, how do you make yourself want it? That's a question I've been asking myself for over 40 years. The want doesn't come from just thinking about it. It comes from a medical emergency or seeing your weight on a doctor's chart. @Acosaut89 and I reacted the same way to seeing that chart. But years before that day, I was…

Wow, well done you! What an amazing transformation! You are one very handsome man, if I might say. And I'm guessing you're not totally disabled anymore? What is your cardiolgist saying now?

Oops, should have read this before posting! I totally agree with this approach!

I am not with the "just do it" crowd when it comes to your specific situation. It's a daunting task for you to flip bad habits into good ones overnight. I know this from lots of experience with "Last Supper planning", so this might work for you. I suggest you take it one step at a time for about three days. Begin with…

There is a relatively young man who walks around our neighborhood, and I've been watching him now for eight years. He looks like he has a difficult time walking, and though he is overweight, he's smaller than he was in 2007. Every time I see him plodding along, I think, "Hey, good for you, Sir!" I don't know if he is…

If you fall off the wagon, get back on it before it drives too far down the road and leaves you behind! I know that self-defeating saboteur too. Look him in the eye and tell him to piss off; he's a liar, not your friend!

Thanks, these are great. First order of business is asparagus soup!

Ha, didn't know EatSmart made kitchen scales. Mine is an OXO digital and I love it. But I also love my EatSmart bathroom scale.

There is positively no reason you should think you need to buy organic produce. You would be paying a lot more and getting the same quality. If you can cook and if you have the time. my suggestions would be to add a lot more variety into your meals and do some scratch cooking or some semi-homemade, changing things up every…

No matter how many iron-rich foods I eat, my daily report always has be iron deficient. I've never cared much for breakfast cereals, so I don't get it that way. I've given up taking that report seriously where iron is concerned. I take a multivitamin every other day.

She's right about it being high in sugar and palm oil, but Nutella isn't really made to be eaten out of the jar. Okay, I know some people do, and that's why I never have it in the house, but it really could be a lot worse. Plus, you're supposed to use it as a spread. It isn't a chocolate pudding. I think Nutella is seen as…

I love this too! Is anyone familiar with the Geneen Roth books on weight and all the emotional issues intertwined with them? I read them many years ago and one line has stuck with me all this time: "Will you be the hero of your own life?" I might as well, because no one else is going to do it.

I know. I had a mediocre week and then a bad week, and I put on 2.5 pounds. I knew I was on trouble's doorstep when I hesitated weighing myself. But I did, and yes, I was up. That was motivation, but it wasn't nearly as motivating as losing all I had gained plus another 2.5 pounds in the last ten days. I am not letting…

For some people (me included), the moderation part is the problem. For some people, it would almost be comparable to telling an alcoholic it's all right to have one drink. I have had a problem like this since I was a child, have had therapy because of it, and it still plagues me. So for my own good, I'm not having…
