I don't log the hours I spend standing at my computer or sitting on my butt reading paper reports. I log all food, drink & exercise. If I cheat myself what do I gain?

I travel a lot in Central and South America. The only time I have gotten sick was from a Whopper at a Burger King in the Cancun airport on my way home after 3 weeks touring the backlands of Guatemala and southern Mexico visiting seldom visited ruins. My wife loves the Maya villages and people. We stay away from tourist…

My salads are big, 4 to 6 cups, and usually include 8 to 9 items: mixed leaf greens, red cabbage, green onions, sweet onion, cucumber, broccoli, tomato, snap peas, mini carrots, tuna or salmon, gorgonzola cheese, balsamic vinegar and olive oil for dressing. I usually eat this about 3 or 4 pm M-Th and most days it holds me…

I have a friend who lost 30 lbs in one month. He was involved in a climbing accident in the Himalayas and had to walk out 200 miles with no food, just the water they could collect. He and the fellow with him both lost that much. I am sure that his blood chemistry was totally wacky when he reached a village and I am amazed…

25 lb bags of beans, 25 lb bags of barley instead of rice (more nutrient rich), cheap fish, fresh veggies and fruit in season, big bags of frozen veggies (corn is not a veggie). Add a daily multi-vitamin. Anything that is processed (pasta, premixed salads, cheeses) is more expensive. It is called adding value (meaning cost…

When I was unemployed in college I bought beans in 25 lb bags, cheap fish (don't know if that is still available), rice in 25 lb bags (I have discovered that barley has a lot more nutrition), big cans of green beans and spinach and lots of fresh veggies when in season. That was 50 years ago. Foods available in markets have…

When I was training heavily I would ride my bike 20 miles in the morning, lift for an hour and a half after work and then run 5 miles at night. It worked great for about 5 years until I got married and my wife wanted a little time also.

Hennesey XO or Fortaleza Tequila (Los Abuelos in Mexico) Both neat. For sipping Quinta de la Rosa 20 year old or 40 year old Port. Not available in this country as far as I know, but we get it at the winery on the Duoro in Portugal. Sit back, sip it on a Sunday afternoon and listen to Mahler.

I spent from 16 to 60 between 187 lbs and 200 lbs. Then my wife went to Iraq 8 years ago and I gained 2.5 lbs per month like clockwork for 12 months. A little more after that. I have been up and down since. The fact that most people are not successful losing weight and keeping it off for the rest of their lives makes no…

The standard for lifting is 3 days per week with at least a day's rest between sessions. Often people do MWF or TTHSat or some variation of that. There are, however, lots of very different ideas. If you use a trainer and concentrate on whole body exercises such as squats, deadlifts, leg presses, overhead presses, etc. then…

I take one of my grandkids to dinner every Friday night. Sometimes mine is carne asada tacos at the local roach coach (250 cal each) or beans, rice & a couple corn tortillas at a sit down place (about 400 calories). Add the Negra Modelo and I am in under 700 calories for dinner. That gives me about 700 calories for…

1 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 cup frozen strawberries 1 large egg 1/2 cup Kellog's Bran Buds If you blend it too much you have to eat it with a spoon. We're trying to put weight on one of my grandkids. He loves it.

Fried Bread?? My guess for the total is 1200 calories, but the oil on and in the bread might kick it up to 1500. If I at that once a week I would be in trouble.

I'm about 350 calories under my actual maintenance, not what MFP thinks, but what it actually is. That is not counting the exercise which is another 350 per day. I am losing about 2.5 lbs per week.

I shovel, but if I wanted a snow blower, I would hire the big bad wolf instead of spending several hundred(thousand?) dollars on a gasoline powered device. Huff & puff ;-)
-
One of the great things about MFP is that almost nobody here believes that "one fits all" baloney.

I ran ambulance for many years. A reliable heart rate monitor has 12 leads, or a least 3. I quit the ambulance 7 years ago, so technology may have improved some in that time, but most of these things were and are expensive toys. I have a first degree heart block, no a serious impediment, but it scares you when you first…

Add up the calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, etc. Measure the finished product in cups or ounces if you have a scale. Measure out 1 serving using the same measurement and divide that number into the total. For example, my veggie chili usually comes to 8 cups each time I make it. The ingredients total about 1200…

The problem with albacore vs the chunk light tuna is the mercury and other heavy metals. Albacore is much higher.

I use an elliptical and dumbbells, but that costs significant money. My wife liked P90X until she developed Guillain-Barre's syndrome and is limited in her exercise. I found a website the other day with 50 do at home exercises just using your body weight.…

I can't bring myself to cheer for the SeaSquirts, but I think your assessment of the Pats is right on. I have a friend who played for Seattle in the 70s and he doesn't cheer for them either. In fact SeaSquirts was his name for the team. I don't have television reception where I live, so it doesn't matter much. When is the…

Fantastic! My mother had MS, but she continued to work, first with a cane, then a walker and the final 10 years before retiring in a wheelchair. It slowed her down a little, but didn't stop her. She was still working around the world UK, Europe, India, Latin America and North America when she retired. And thank you for…

Buy better tuna. My choice is Genovo Tonno in Olive Oil. Most often I eat it straight from the can perhaps with some black pepper or lemon pepper. Just had a can about a half an hour ago. The Bumblebee & Chicken of the Sea foil packages I save for salads and they get the olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing treatment.

My solution to cheese and calories was to fall in love with GOOD cheese. GOOD cheese is only made in Europe and they don't export it, believe me. I can only afford to go there once a year, so I am safe. Besides when I have good cheese, wine and bread it takes a looonnnggg time to savor each bite. So, I don't consume as…

About 30 years ago I saw an article in Strength and Fitness about a Breatheairian. He claimed it was the ultimate lifestyle. When I worked at a psych hospital in the 60s we had a patient who explained that she didn't need to eat because she could photosynthesize like the trees. Those two lifestyles didn't work out too well…

I don't have tv reception. When is the Super Bowl? Probably my regular diet and my regular Sunday routine.

I order Quest bars online. I live in a very rural area about 60 miles from stores that carry "health foods". I use them when I want to boost my fiber or protein for the day, but I probably only eat two or three a week. I used to eat Fiber One bars, but decided that Quest was a better choice for me.

I weigh daily. I thought I was a data freak until I saw SingRunTing's charts.
