  • I remember the first time I lost weight back in 2010. I went to go buy jeans and went into the plus sized section and almost started crying because nothing on that side fit and I was afraid - literally afraid - to go into the "juniors" sizes. I had to call my BFF and have her to talk me off the ledge because I was about to…
  • Good explanation. Doesn't FitBit give "real-time" calculations and adjustments vs MFP giving just a daily reccomendation/prediction?
  • This is exactly what I did. I set up initially on MFP, told it what I wanted because I knew I couldn't make it on 1 pound a week cals. I did .5 pounds a week and sedentary. Then I just did the same with my FitBit. I have no idea what TDEE even is. I stick with what I know. If I become more active and lose weight faster…
  • When I want the most up to date info and comparison, I sync my fitbit to the app, then I refresh the MFP website. I haven't had any issues yet. I also try to go with the lowest cal allowance. Most times I just sync, refresh and go with what MFP says. Opening up the app on my phone automatically calls for the FitBit to sync…
  • Well, I had my MFP account before I got my FitBit, so MFP set my cals at 1740 to lose .5 pounds a week. When I set up my FitBit I used the same info and chose "sedentary" for both (MFP & FitBit). My FitBit will add/subtract cals based on how active I am throughout the day. No matter what, I still try to stay under the 1740…
  • My trouble times are usually the weekends, BUT, I tend to get out more, walk more, and rest more on the weekends. I also have more time to play on my Wii. Saturday I was able to play the Wii and do over 20 flights of stairs which helped me sooo much.
  • So man good suggestions. It's going to be interesting to see how I can get my exercise in. My flow is usually VERY heavy and it makes for a horrible time trying to work out. I may just climb my stairs at home for a work out. That way, if I have any "problems", I'm home and can take care of them.
  • Thanks ladies. I'm trying not to pout, and I am getting through this 1st day literally minute by minute. I'm just counting down until 1:00 when I get my lunch break and I can go burn some calories walking around Walmart - away from the groceries!
  • Thanks for the ideas. I'm trying hard to make it through. I think if I make it through today I will be ok. Love the idea of warm foods (soup, chili, coffee, tea). Those always make me feel better. This wont be easy, but it is def worth it!
  • I used to be one of those people that strictly believed in not eating past 7:00pm and if I did I would gain 5011 pounds! I try not to eat too late because if I do and then go to bed my acid reflux nearly kills me, but since being here on MFP and watching my calories, I have had a few meals/snacks at night with no serious…
  • ^^^This was everything! I am still very new here and I think this was the best advice so far.
  • This is not entirely true. It's not "just an identifier". I have scanned plenty of things that gave all nutritional info - just from the barcode. For me, some nutritional info is better than none. Using the database has helped me become more aware of what I am eating and helped me to begin my journey on the right track -…
  • Awesomeness! I love walking. But I hate the treadmill, and I don't really like walking a track, but it's better than the treadmill. I like walking to a "place" if that makes sense, or walking a neighborhood or busy street. I like being outside and walking like I have a real purpose of getting to a specific destination.
  • Aha! Ok, I was wondering how that would work. Thanks
  • With me being new, and on MFP for almost 3 weeks, I have lost 5 pounds. What helped me was logging, logging, logging. I became aware of everything that I was putting into my mouth. Then I realized that sweet drinks were costing me at least 800 cals a day. I noticed that I was also snacking/grazing on crackers and small…
  • Well, I've been slowly adjusting my foods, and as soon as I eat something that gives me a bad reaction I make a mental note of it and stay away from it. With that said, it's not all sweets or potato chips. I love the little grape tomatoes, and I eat them for a snack, but good grief, they send me running nearly every time.…
  • Awesomeness! I totally understand. Counting calories has been eye-opening for me and it does allow me to eat what I want. I don't have to cut out bread or sweets. If I want them, I just have to plan my day accordingly.
  • And you should be. I bought mine yesterday from Bed, Bath & Beyond (with my 20% off coupon), and I have been playing with it ever since. I'm syncing it on my phone almost every hour, and I keep the browser window for FitBit and MFP open at work all day to keep up with everything. You're gonna love it!
  • Good question. Waiting for replies.....
  • I succumbed to the craving of Duncan Hines Cream Cheese frosting straight from the can earlier this week. I had a total of 8 tablespoonfuls between a 2 day period and threw the remainder of the can in the garbage. I try my best to beat PMS & cravings at their own game, but I am no match for them. Their double teaming…
  • ^^^Yes to that! After being on here for 2 weeks, and logging every food or drink that enters my mouth, I quickly realized that I was drinking almost 1/2 my daily cal allowance, and some days drinking my full day's cal allowance!!! I drank a lot of juices, sodas, and the drink that gives me life....SWEET TEA! I thought…
  • Thanks for your replies. I don't think I'm on the time-released version. Not sure. I have to take 500mg twice a day. After that horrible episode with the potato chips, I don't eat them anymore. If I want chips, I eat baked Lays. I really do love them more. I do still have my gall bladder. I've been taking note of all of…
  • Oh yes!!! Now these are the tips I need to get some work in. I am going to walk the building on my lunch break. Can't wait to get started. So excited.
  • I like to use the barcode scanning option from my phone or iPad to enter and log my calories. That way I am getting the info right from the package. Although the calories may be "off" on a lot of the items, the whole idea of logging cals and being responsible and planning my meals instead of just unconsciously eating…

  • Thanks for replying everyone. Pammy, I've cut way back on greasy foods and the thing is, not everything bothers me, or I could eat it this week, and in 2 weeks eat the same thing again and catch hell. It's basically trial & error with learning how to eat all over again.
  • I just bought a FitBit Charge today on my lunch break!!! I'm so excited. I have it synced to MFP and everything. I did notice that it took away some of my available calories because of it's measurement of my inactivity. Kinda hate that, but it's ok. I'll see what happens tomorrow once I've worn it for a full day.
  • Snowflake, that's awesome!!!! I'm going to make this work for myself. I'm so excited that I just want to get to walking to see it do it's thing. Can't wait to get home from work to give it a real test!
  • Hi Ritchiehl, please add me. Walking the parking lot is a good idea. Since joining MFP 2, almost 3 weeks ago, I do more dining in/bringing my lunch, which will allow me time to walk during my lunch break. I'm going to start walking our office on lunch while it's still cold outside. When it warms up, I'll walk outside.…
  • This is so informative. I was wondering why my FitBit added cals to my profile today, but I just got it this afternoon, so I am going to still try to stay within my (regular) goal. I think I can even stay within my adjusted FitBit goal if I try hard.
