@huango : thanks for the advice, you mentioned weight training but I wouldn't even know how at home (don't have a gym membership). Do you think running will help retain muscle? I've been doing couch25k and felt aches in muscles I never knew I had!

I've lost a pound! I've lost a pound! 9 days of getting VERY bored at seeing the same number and finally it dropped! Phew! 3 weeks & 2 days in to challenge and my new CW is 170 lbs That's 5 pounds in challenge and 17 pounds overall. Happy day for me :-)

OP you sound similar stats to me, I am 6'0" so an inch taller than you, although I only aim to get down to around 153. I was 187 lbs when I started MFP and set my goal at 1.5 pounds a week and that gave me a calorie goal of 1340 a day. I never ate below 1250 and it has worked for me so far.
