  • So glad you are enjoying your new equipment. That is half the battle when it comes to "exercising". Quick thought on your walking outside; have you ever thought of volunteering at your local ASPCA or Humane Society. They always need walkers to take the dogs out and socialize. You may be able to explore the local parks with…
  • The operative word in that definition is ONLY....I care about my family, my friends, my students....but I am concerned with my own well-being now. It makes me better able to care for the others when my own needs are being met first.
  • @nikkib0103! Oh! Don't let it spiral out of control!! Is there a medical issue about what you "shouldn't" eat? If not, then remove "shouldn't" from your thought process. No food should be forbidden, but be sure you think about what you are eating. Let's play one of my little mind games.....Would you like a brownie? Yes,…
  • Pants on the Ground...hilarious.
  • @gmoo150 Like many of us (ladies especially), I'm sure you spent your younger years taking care of others. It is about time we got selfish and took care of ourselves. I am in awe of the accomplishments us older folks have made! My own journey this year has been nothing short of miraculous! Baby steps are the way to…
  • As we age, our bodies can betray us. Get a full check-up, including bloodwork to make sure everything is functioning properly. (For me, it was TSH {thyroid}) Then follow the previous suggestion to try a different approach. One size does not fit all.
  • I commented on another thread last week about my change in climbing stairs. I can remember sometimes having to "Bear Walk" up to bed at night. Now I smile whenever I feel myself "jog" up or down. Yesterday, I got caught in the stairwell with middle schoolers between classes....anyone remember what that was like? I stayed…
  • YES!! NSVs are the motivation for us. They sometimes pop up out of nowhere to remind us that we are on a journey and we need to smell the flowers along the way. They are so important as a Pat-On-The-Back we may not feel from someone else....they come from inside us. A Gratitude Journal can also help you remember the good…
  • Nice new "toy" @gmoo150! I had to look it up online to see what you were playing with. When I first tried the AMT (Mccmack and marekdds) I could only GO backwards! And only about 2-3 mins. You will figure it out and be able to get those intervals back. Have fun!
  • @UncleMac....hahaha, that used to be one of my favorite quotes. Sadly , I think I may have passed the point of "too young" now. I may have to work on that!! @BigGuy47 and @luluinca, I know we are doing this for ourselves, but proving the nay-sayers wrong is sweet  When you got it, flaunt it....no matter what age!!
  • Surprisingly, I'm thinking it is easier now too...for all the reasons mentioned; focusing on my needs not the kids, plugging into the technology available, being aware of the passage of time and realizing it will take effort to continue to be active into my "golden years". @UncleMac, the shoulder-check (in a car, not on a…
  • Spent the last few days sorting through things at my mom's house. I own it and my daughter still lives there so, there was never any urgency to clean it out. *Sigh*. So this time, I went through some closets....mom was very stylish and a real clothes horse. (That particular trait totally missed me!). She had every closet…
  • True as far as it goes... but where is the limit? I can say the same about a month's worth of calories or even a year's worth. What is your ultimate goal? Weight loss, medically required dietary changes, maintenance, learning a new lifestyle? We are all different and things work for one and not for another. Daily…
  • Stuck at home today...started down the hill into work and had several trees down. Roads were worse than nasty. Snow, sleet, ice....you name it. They finally closed everything...including the colleges, which hardly ever happens. And power is in and out. So...here I am with 3 very happy dogs and a pigsty of a house. Guess I…
  • I love the cheese curds and fries but never acquired the taste for the gravy. Gravy on mashed.
  • @robertw486 , I agree...it was the culture of our times that we were told to "suck it up" and take care of business....even us girls. I still keep tight wraps on my emotions. There have been so many advances and hopefully, it will all translate into healthier understanding of the effects our mental health has on our…
  • Compliment, indeed! I have had a couple of people quietly ask if I am alright. When I tell them I am fine, they have been able to more comfortably remark on my obvious weight loss.
  • Oooh..proper fish and chips! Haven't had that in years. Wrapped in newspaper back in the day!!! With malt vinegar for me, though.
  • Good to know @d_thomas02, in case I ever get a chance to get down there. Key Largo sounds more my speed. Sunshine and warm water goes without saying, I'm sure.
  • I once picked out a silver velvet mini dress for a winter wedding (I was MUCH younger then!!). Changed my mind at the last minute and wore something else...can't remember what now. Good thing, though....the BRIDE was wearing my minidress!!!
  • And THAT is a beautiful picture! Looking good!
  • That is the right lesson, E_Brault! We are all on the same journey but we need to find our own path. What works great for one may be a total fail for another. Think of it as a lifestyle change, not a diet. You have to mold yourself to fit the new you.
  • Hope you are keeping tabs on your Mother of the Bride dress...wouldn't want any wardrobe malfunctions on the big day.
  • I have mentioned before....and it still holds true....My children have informed me all my grandbabies will have 4 legs and a tail. There is still time.
  • Bhahahah! Menopause, indeed!!!
  • Get outside for a little while....preferable with a dog or child.
  • 61% ... I think that might be better than some of the local weathermen! I always thought that meteorology was the only profession where you can be wrong 60 per cent of the time and still get paid. It is perhaps getting better, but let's face it....we can't control the weather.
  • E_Brault...isn't it interesting how things can just kind of shift around! I managed to lose on the scale this month but measurements stayed the same. However, my NSV....I wore a pair of leggings (jeggings, whatever) to work and I was feeling a draft. No, there was not a rip in my pants. I suddenly realized I had a thigh…
