I went back to the pool today after two weeks out. I was just not feeling it the last few weeks and when I got in the pool at 6:00am today, I still wasn't. I swam for about 50 minutes of mixed sets and it seemed really really slow, even for a turtle like me. On the plus side, the morning lifeguard was giving me grief about…

Not surprisingly, there is some really good advice from this group! Yes, form is the most important thing and it's hard to concentrate on when you are tired. Even experienced swimmers can say that. But one goes hand in hand with the other. The more efficient your form, the less you struggle. If you can get some lessons,…

I've been swimming more than 10 years now but I did notice a change a first. It probably took a year or more but it changed my shape some, for the better. It also definitely improved my endurance and helped with joint pain. Like Noel said, I'm no more photogenic though!

I swam both Tuesday and Thursday mornings but they were rather disappointing. I have had a stiff neck which has been making it hard to sleep and therefore hard to get up and swim with any enthusiasm. After my great clinic on Sunday it was a bit of a letdown but we just keep going, right? You guys have been busy! Medals for…

This is where I went to the USMS stroke clinic on Sunday. It is the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida which is about an hour from my house. Directly behind me in that picture is a diving pool. The facility has a retractable roof which was closed the day I was there. There is a bit of an interesting history with this…

It was a great pool! The ledge is much higher than my home pool, though, and I had to either go to one of the ladders or get a hand to get out. The ladders are only in the corners and if you are in one of those middle lanes, it's a long way to go. I guess with practice I might be able to lift myself out!

There are so many good things in your story - not just your weight loss success but all the other successes too! It was beautifully written right from the heart. Congratulations on it all.

oh, and welcome PulpFaction! Glad to have you here.

I spent over three hours in the pool today. It's been a while since I was actually in the water long enough for my fingers to get wrinkly! I went to a USMS stroke clinic in Orlando. It was a beautiful facility. I was reminded of a few things I know (like my hands tend to enter the water on the center line instead of in…

I often lift and swim on the same days, swimming in the morning and lifting in the evenings on Tues/Thurs and lifting alone one day during the weekend. It's the only way my schedule works right now. I tend to sleep really well those nights.

I swam this morning with a very similar swim to Tuesday (about 45 minutes of mixed sets) except today I had to share a lane starting right after my warmup. I don't know if I'll ever be comfortable enough to do flip turns with someone else in the lane unless I know exactly where they are and that they aren't close, so I…

That's exactly what they are, gently! At least at first (and still occasionally with the chlorine up the nose) anyway. I learned them just to learn something new and to gather admiration from other swimmers, because they are not going to admire my fantastic form (swimming or body). Breathing is a crutch! Who needs…

I did swim today, after a week off. I only swim Tues/Thurs at this time of year and the pool pump was on the fritz last Thursday morning. I swam for about 45 minutes, with mixed sets, working a bit more on back/breast strokes. I'm going to a US Masters stroke clinic this Sunday and am really looking forward to it! I…

I've been stewing on that do you deduct 70 calories question you had and just couldn't quite figure which MFP was more likely to do. I had never actually thought about it that way. It's interesting though. I am with most of you guys on not eating back exercise calories. I have exercised regularly for 25 years but still…

Looks great! I would say the extra skin is a badge of honor but I hope you get to fix it someday if that is what will make you happiest! You've obviously worked hard and should get what you want. On a totally unrelated note, I used to have a bathroom with that same crazy pink/black tile. Straight out of the 1960's. It was…

Got back in the water this morning after a two-week hiatus. It's been quite a while since I missed two whole weeks at the pool! 55 minutes of mixed sets, including 6 timed 50's, trying to beat my time each 50. That worked until the last one, which was weirdly slow. Good job everybody! It was great to read about everyone's…

I am signed up for a USMS stroke clinic at the end of this month. I hope to get enough pointers to improve both my back and breast strokes this year, as they are abysmal. I also plan to become certified as an ALTS (Adult Learn to Swim) Coach in March.

I am not at all interested in swimming long distances, maybe for the same reason I don't want to bike or run long distances. I guess it's a short attention span. An hour is about all I want to dedicate to any exercise, and I do exercise regularly - lifting, swimming, walking (sometimes running), yoga. If I am hiking and…

FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! Way to go, Stephen!! 168 lbs lost!! I don't think I can use excessive exclamations points in this post! (OK, I'll stop now) We've missed your comments here the last month or so here but I know you were getting close to goal and looking around for other things to do. I started on this forum just about…

Very interesting, Panda! I am going to a US Masters Swim stroke clinic on Jan 31st but I don't think I am brave enough to butterfly in front of a bunch of other swimmers. Mine is really bad! I'm just going to work on the three other strokes. They need enough work.

Welcome @siltsu2014! Good job to those of you who have gotten in some swimming over the holidays! It's a bummer when your pool closes. I did swim this morning. First time in a week. About 45 minutes or so of mixed sets. The pool went from dead empty to too many people by the end of the 45 and I didn't feel like swimming in…

It's beautiful! I would always go a bit crazy with decorating. I should have thought of the fake stuff. Do you make your own frosting? That always seemed to slow it down too (and I would end up eating half of it while making it, too!). But I didn't mean to distract the thread. Your hard work is just so impressive! To go…

Fantastic!! Congrats. That's an awesome success story. I used to make Buche de Noel every Christmas too but got lazy. It's a lot of work but quite yummy. I'll be over in an hour for mine, ok?
-
I like that training plan! I can't imagine swimming 6 miles. Go Noel! Welcome back! It shouldn't take you long to get back in the swing. I swam something this morning. It was a hodgepodge. The pool got really crowded so I cut it off at about 45 minutes. At that point I was doing timed 50's. If I don't do at least a few…

Tomorrow IS a new day! Good luck!

Cool stuff, AQ! I love data! I'm not sure I want to know the cold hard facts about my swimming, though. I did swim this morning. I'm in Holiday mode so it wasn't a fixed workout and I didn't track yardage. I did get in a bit of almost everything (except butterfly) though and felt like I had worked out when I was done.…

They definitely take some getting used to. There may be some folks who can just use them but I think most of us have an adjustment period. Good luck!

Swam about an hour. Warmed up, swam some drills, pulled and used my fins a bit (since we were just talking about them) and decided for a long swim at the end. Used my last 25ish minutes to swim 1,000 yds.
-
Nice! I hope you feel better soon.
-
I need you coaching me, Emma! I think my fastest 100 ever is probably a 1:52. nuffer - When I wrecked my car a few months ago and my chest was badly bruised, kickboard and fins were what I did. I did some kick sets without fins, too, but I sure like zooming along with them. I did used to swim with this one old lady…
