That was absolutely worth reading from start to finish. Thanks!

My mother always told us we had to wait after eating but she was a big one on myths and superstitions. I swear she told us that just so she could get a rest! I always swim early and I always eat before swimming. Like aliciamariaq said, I need the fuel. I usually wait about 20-30 minutes but that is about how long it takes…

Ha! That's the same for my husband and oldest daughter. It's a part of why she moved from Florida to Washington state. She got a sunburn through the car window while we were driving through Nebraska in January! (She also says Florida is weird, which is actually quite true. When you read the weirdest news stories, they…

I hope it does! I swim indoors for about half the year but really enjoy getting out. The only real downside when we are outside is that there are no rafters to look at and keep my backstroke straight!

I swam Monday, Thursday and today (Saturday). They all followed the same pattern of 45-55 minutes of mixed drills, kicking, and swim sets. This morning was fantastic though. The pool doesn't open until 8:00 so I was swimming in daylight and the sky was a perfect blue. As I did backstroke, the droplets that my hands threw…

@aliciamariaq - Wow!! How exciting! Not just your times but the whole experience. Thanks so much for sharing it!

Definitely. A week, fine. Two weeks, not too bad. A month, yikes! It doesn't seem to matter what you did that month, either.

I swam Monday, Wednesday and today. Warm up, drills (6 kick and catch up), some sprints, breaststroke and backstroke. I was trying to work on where my elbows are and where my hand enters the water in freestyle, my kick in breaststroke and trying to stay smooth AND IN A STRAIGHT LINE  in backstroke. I would say I had…

I'm not surprised it was at home. I swear I am way more likely to hurt myself doing normal stuff than exercise. I hope you heal soon. Take care of yourself. I swam Monday, Thursday and this morning. Mostly my normal routine of mixed sets for about 45-55 minutes. They finally got the back stroke flags up between Thursday…

Truly the only sensible solution.

I do. I have for years but then got with a personal trainer almost a year ago and I think it increased my efficiency in the gym. I certainly see a difference I never did before. I still meet with him once a week and then work out on my own one or two other days at the gym plus my swimming. I'll echo what the others said…

Thanks, Swimmy. I had already been doing some of these but am adding in the rest. That prone swimmer is tough, which tells me I needed it!

Hi guys! You sure have been busy around here. I swam today and also last Monday. There was a vacation in between with lots of nature and hiking and stuff. I didn't swim much in the few months before that but now that our outdoor pool is open, I hope to get back to a 3 a week routine. I have been a 5 day a week…

It's been worth it for me. I even knew my way around a gym and have learned some new things and seen progress I had not seen on my own. If you can afford even a few sessions, I think it helps you get going in the gym with some confidence. I know it is possible to learn it from books and videos but the personal touch helps.

I'm pretty fit and a regular walker. I always get puffy hands in the warmer weather (live in Florida). I wouldn't let it worry you. You can watch your salt and stay hydrated and keep your hands up (all those things mentioned above) to help with it but the actual puffy hands don't seem to have any lasting effects.

Lol! I still haven't reconciled with any kind yogurt but cottage cheese and avocados and I are best buddies now. As a kid, no way! I actually like it plain or with Triscuit crackers.

I swam yesterday and a few times last week. Nothing impressive. Just about 35-40 minutes of mixed sets. I'm ready to get out of our narrow-lane indoor pool to our outdoor pool on May 1. I tired of the indoor pool this year much faster than in previous years. We mostly have good etiquette in the pool but the narrow lanes of…

Swam this morning in a kind of warm, overly-chlorinated indoor pool. *sigh* Three more weeks until they open the outdoor pool. It wasn't a bad swim though. About 45 minutes of mixed sets and I had the lane to myself for nearly half of it. I'm told our Y has a new aquatics director (they turn them over pretty frequently) so…

Welcome! I've been having some neck issues recently and I've been swimming at least 12 or so years. I'm 50. Mine may be more job related than swimming related but Noel is right. Daily stretching is what has been helping so far, either in the evening or in the morning depending on my schedule. Just about 20 minutes or so…

I got back in the pool this morning after a month hiatus. It was slow but I wasn't expecting much. Plus the pool was crowded. But let's see... 400 warm up, 200 pull, 200 breast, 200 kick, 100 back and 300 freestyle/cool down. I think it was about 40 minutes start to finish but I stopped to chat with a few people who asked…

I like this idea and had never heard of them. Thanks! I ordered them to try them out on the days when I'm going to be on my feet for long stretches.

I took several months off running because I broke that bone right in half. Right after I did it, I had an orthotic insert for a while that helped support the arch right behind the ball of my foot and even now find that shoes with a molded foot bed like Birkenstocks are more comfortable than being barefoot. . The insert…

I fractured a sesamoid about 15 years ago. They don't heal well on their own so go to the doc, get an X-ray and an opinion (believe me, I know the don't wanna). You'll be a lot more prepared to deal with it if you know exactly what it is. Good luck!

This is great! I've been watching your success story updates and this is a great addition. Way to go!
-
Just this one. I tried a few others but there wasn't much activity in them. I like you guys!

Dude. Wow. Just, wow.

I'm going to try it. Last year I decided to wait a bit and just went back on the Pill. That was ok, but I didn't get great results. I figured I would give the IUD a go. I see my doctor tomorrow.

Count me in with the big kickers! These legs are good for something! I went to a clinic one time and the first thing the coach said was "Wow, what a kick!" I did not swim today. I went to spinning class instead. I made the decision a few days ago to take off swimming for the month of March. I need to get my mojo…

I'm 50 now and I can tell you at 23, it was all about vanity and trying to fit into some societal ideal, despite being a feminist and otherwise a nonconformist. I wouldn't have said it then, but looking back, it was a big blind spot I had. Then at 27 I had my first child and I went back to work and my husband stayed home…

I'm still lacking in enthusiasm for swimming but I swam about 45 minutes, mixed sets this morning. Did 6 timed 50-yard sets in the middle of it all trying to get faster each time. That never seems to work but I started at 1:08 on the first and stayed around 1:04ish for the remaining 5. I didn't have it in me to all-out…
