my trainer has to be able to motivate and push me without fear of how much I'm going to hate him/her at that time, as it will pass, lol

Try not changing things drastically. Make small changes every week. Once you've gotten into a new habit of eating, allow yourself one cheat meal a week. That one cheat meal can help to keep you from falling off all together.

I highly recommend 20 mins of HIIT cardio 2-3 times per week. It saves time and continues to burn fat after you've finished. There are several different ways it can be done so you should be able to find something you enjoy.
