Watching the scale is the way to ensure you are eating too much/not enough, not using some bizarre and pointless metric that I think everyone here agrees is ridiculously inaccurate. I see people every day logging in their diaries that they are burning hundreds and hundreds, sometime thousands of calories a day from…

I don't understand why anyone logs exercise in MFP at all. It's a terrible "feature" that creates the illusion that it's okay to eat more. Don't record exercise in MFP. Then you don't have to worry about eating back those calories. If all your exercising causes you to lose too quickly then raise your calorie total. If you…

Oh, I'm sorry, I just noticed your weight is at 129. icallsitlikeiseeit has the right idea, I think. Your goals should be directed more toward body recomposition than weight loss, perhaps.

Everyone always hates to hear this, but you're probably not calculating your calorie intake accurately. That is, you are eating more calories than you think. I suggest you continue the efforts you are making, with a new focus on accurately logging your meals. WEIGHING, not "measuring" your food. It makes a huge difference.…

Well, your weight loss is very noticeable. You look great. I think sometimes folks we work with every day often don't comment because a) they see you every day and just haven't noticed your gradual loss. And then there is b) they assume you will fail and regain your weight, so they want to avoid hurting your feelings later…

In this sense, the fight we are all battling with our weight is like battling alcoholism or drug addiction. If your family and friends can't support you or, even worse, try to sabotage you then these people aren't good for you. They need to understand that.

Go into the "Sources" tab in the Health app. Be sure you you aren't pulling in the same data from multiple sources. I caught myself doing this. HealthKit was counting steps from my phone and then counting them again from my watch.

I love my Apple Watch. The myfitnesspal app for Apple watch, however, suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. Like almost all pre-OS2 apps, it's laughably slow, and if you do not let MFP track steps (I don't), the app always crashes. I'm hoping they release a workable MFP app for the watch, but I ain't holding my breath. The regular iOS MFP…

It isn't good for you. But it isn't going to hinder weight loss either. I drink a can or two a day.
-
All of this. I'm getting close enough to goal that I'm starting to make strategies for maintenance. You've encapsulated the best of everything I've read.

I love how the "I'm a physician" line gets thrown out almost immediately, as in 'further discussion unnecessary... I'm a doctor.' I have often read how most physicians really know very little about nutrition and that we should stick to advice from dietitians and nutritionists. Here we see the truth of that in full display.

Get in line, buddy, I got a 13" extension coming soon -- my wife is already crying and packing for her mom's.

Ha! No kidding! I wish! Yes, there has been a difference... And no, I don't know how much. I'm obsessed with myself, sure, but not enough so to start measuring my Old Feller.

It's an interesting quirk of human psychology among the overweight, I guess, that everyone is so fixated on loose skin. Why is it that folks at the beginning of their weight loss journey worry about this? I'm not exempt, I did all kinds of research on the subject too, asked a bunch of questions, and thought about it way…

It was a love/hate relationship. I had no idea how sleep deprived I was in the pre-CPAP days. The first morning after wearing The Machine I slept so well, and so hard that it almost hurt, lol. I had so much energy I was giddy. It also sucks to never be able to go anywhere or do anything without the stupid thing. It's like…

Very sorry about this. I was worried that would be the case for me too, but I seem to be ok. I haven't retaken a sleep study (and won't), but I'm breathing great at night, feeling great the next day. The wife say little to no snoring. It's still a little tough to fall asleep, though. For ten years I have trained myself to…

The wife and I both use Apple Watches.

I took Wellbutrin for about 3 months, I don't know if it was the drug, or if I was just finally ready to quit. But it worked. I think the most important thing is to allow yourself to fail... Just get back on the wagon. I've been smoke free for about 3 years now.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess, as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn you'll lose weight. Personally, it sounds gross and the rational seems ridiculous. I thought someone was pulling my leg when I first heard of it. But if paleo sounds appealing to you, go for it.

If you eat less calories than you burn, you will lose weight. If you don't, you won't.

I'm sort of new here too, and it IS sad. So many posts like this perpetuating myths and pseudo-science, along with 'advice' from people who are decades behind current research. MFP forums are both a great source and a terrible source of info. I am full of appreciation to the MFP members who consistently call out and…

If I'm way low on my protein for the day I might have one. I'd rather get the protein elsewhere. I haven't found a shake yet that I thought tasted very good.

Wow, look at those arms!

To get behind the bar in our basement, I used to need to squeeeeeeeeeeze my belly between the bar opening and the wall to a ridiculous degree... Like squeezing sausage out of a tube. Yesterday I went behind the bar for the first time in a while and slipped right through, no stress. I was so flabbergasted I went through the…

I'm so sorry, but is that a Star Trek outfit you're wearing in your avatar?

My understanding is that the whites contain most of the protein, and the yolk contains most of the calories. I did a little research before posting that seems to back that up. Other nutrients seem to be a wash - some are more in the yolk, some in the whites. I eat a couple of eggs just about every day, yolks and all. As so…

Weighing everything seems tedious only at first. The longer I do it, the easier and more accurate I get. It still isn't quite second nature for me, but I'm getting there. And I can definitely see the logic of it, more and more, as I get more accurate and consistent. Thanks vismal!

Thanks to threads like this one, I've also started noticing things like this. Now that I'm getting better and better at dutifully weighing my foods it's becoming very apparent that serving sizes like these (13 chips, 6 pieces, 2 patties, etc.) are LIES lol! It's also very suspicious in that they always lead to UNDER…
