I don't like eggs on a regular basis but the other night I really wanted an omelette, so I made one next morning. I had the monthly ravenous cravings issue yesterday. So I stuffed myself silly with fresh veggies, meat, and eggs so I wouldn't even be slightly tempted to head for the cookie aisle. It worked. I gave my body…

Sun dried tomatoes. I make them in a dehydrator, and eat as many as I can without putting myself totally out of ketosis. Can't wait for Summer tomatoes. I'm going to have to work up to a couple hours a day of exercise just to fit those into a low carb lifestyle!

Me too. Without that thing I'm not sure I would ever have learned to cook!

Because I get very hungry in the normal weight range. And I did when I was young, too, before I had to lose more than 20 pounds of vanity chub now and then. I remember demolishing massive amounts of food every time I let myself. Whole pizzas, three or four double cheeseburgers, gallons of soda, shipping containers of…

Right there with you. About ten more to go now. Doing low carb to control hunger, but even so it looks like I'll have to add 5:2 intermittent fasting back in so I can lose weight and still have some days where my plate doesn't look sadly empty. You could give it a try if you're someone who doesn't do well with day in, day…

I haven't tried it, I like the DIY concept and the spirit behind the whole idea, but the more I learn about food the less certain I am that anyone knows how to properly fuel our species (damn that's sad!) so I'm leery of it now for fear of missing out on something from fruits, veggies, or meats that researchers don't even…

I like herbal tea (current favorite: 365 rooibos orange vanilla creme from Whole Foods and a huge box is 5 bucks) or a little vanilla extract in my coffee. It's sweet when you inhale it and when you breathe out through your nose after a sip.

%100 agree. I have one, he's 18, and he's in college. I'm free, and I don't know if I could date a man with small children now. And I certainly don't want mine taking care of me when I'm old. That's what good health is for. I want to live a long healthy life and drop instantly dead while out hiking 20 miles at a…

My kind of person, stuck in the 1800s just like me! I crochet and I'm thinking of starting a vegetable garden this year. Also, 365 Rooibos orange vanilla tea from Whole foods is lovely, too. It's my new favorite. As others have said, OP, take time, let yourself settle into your new shape. Then celebrate your victory. And…

I think if you went to a doctor you'd be cheered on for the sake of your health. I suppose you could then get a doctor's note to show your concerned friends and family. ;)

Until I read this thread, I thought I was doing good upping my calories to 1300 and eating back exercise calories. I would love to be able to eat two thousand calories a day and lose or even just maintain at a weight I want to be at. I don't know if it will ever happen, but I can sure try!

Try things you don't think you can do now and then. You might surprise yourself.

Thanks for the link, I love lectures on diabetes (in part because many of my family members are now afflicted and no, they weren't obese). Listening now.

Posts with links to peer reviewed research are nice, though!

As for real, I don't know about all of them, but I'd say Melissa's story was about as real as it gets. Just too much there that couldn't have been faked. Staged trips to the store and such? Sure. Questions asked and then cut out of the final piece? Yeah. But overall, I'd say that was the least likely to have much fakery in…

I believe it is one of the things that screws with my moods. Two of my aunts have diagnosed celiac. So who knows?

The politics pisses me off, industry funded studies piss me off, industry lobbying worsening the politics pisses me off, cutting funding for studies done by universities independently really pisses me off. Still gotta look at what is there and try to figure out what is maybe the truth, along with that useless for research…

I'm dying to get a punching bag to take my stress out on. One of the big heavy ones. Until then, running, biking, wobbling on rollerblades, shouting at the top of my lungs in my car (easy way to not disturb the neighbors, bonus if Let the Bodies Hit the Floor is playing), and just plain refusing to let anyone or anything…

Our birds pretty much live on seeds. I could get really fat on their diet!
-
Haha! How do you fix that in settings with the language messed up?
-
I agree. Thankfully, at least the new dietary guidelines (check the other thread someone made) aren't going off as bad on fat as they used to.
-
As well it should pay for it, they're followed around by cameras and put on TV for everyone to see. I'm sure some of them are glad to inspire others (and this show has inspired me) but it can't be easy.

Your co worker needs to learn to touch type anyway.

Haha. Pretty sure the giant 'sharing size' *snicker* snickers would require running a marathon to burn off.
-
Interesting. In this case, it's "A modest reduction in dietary carbohydrate has beneficial effects on body composition, fat distribution, and glucose metabolism. " So might be helpful to people who don't want to go all the way into the land of ketosis or even anywhere near it.
-
Thanks for the link! Interesting. Seems to point to the benefits of moderate protein intake, unfortunately for my cow devouring self.

No matter what a person's stance on sugar, we deserve to know what has been added to our food: "The panel said sugary drinks should be removed from schools, and it endorsed a rule proposed by the Food and Drug Administration that would require a distinct line for added sugars on food nutrition labels, a change the food and…

Yeah it was, I hope she pulls out of it and gets on track. I felt bad for her when she was talking about not having enough food as a kid. If anything could trigger compulsive overeating, I see how that would.

Sorry, I misread. I plead low coffee levels in my system!

Usually don't eat breakfast, but last night an omelet started to sound tasty, so I made one this morning. Eggs, sun-dried tomatoes, onions, garlic, habanero peppers, salt, and apple cider vinegar. Delicious!
