OP, you've been given some really solid advice here. The concept of "metabolic exercises" is not really as helpful as consistently knowing what you burn and what your intake looks like. With that said, you want progressive resistance and the programs @rabbitjb mentioned would be on my list too.

I'm glad you feel that way. I learned the "hard" way by trying them, getting frustrated, and getting diarrhea. It took me a long time to get to calorie counting and it's the only thing that worked.

She makes a good point! After that session, I actually stayed at my gym for a year and just did my own thing. The trainers weren't part of it and I just did what I wanted. I really only left because the other gym is closer to home and I wanted a pool to train in which the original one didn't have.
