  • I'm so proud of you for picking up on that!
  • I'm sorry the question you really wanted the answer to isn't in my knowledge base :( I wish I could help- I hate seeing a friend suffer. I know you're smart and can figure this out. You've done so well at getting I shape.
  • I'm posting this with great reluctance because I know a lot of people like to demonize carbs and sugar for the wrong reasons and have some ridiculous debates about food addiction/bingeing, but I digress... The gist of my PM was this: - An allergy is the most likely culprit because pain that intermittent and fairly…
  • He's right about the allergy piece- there is a good possibility it's an inflammatory response to something.
  • There's a lot of information out there for sure, but a lot of it is anecdotal, etc. so I can definitely see why! You've got me curious and doing lots of reading.
  • I'm PMing you to avoid a dumpster fire here.
  • OP, you got some great advice above about how weight loss works (it's all about eating less than you burn!) but I wanted to say that this isn't the first time I've heard this. There have been studies showing that 30 or more minutes ( I don't remember how many times a week) is beneficial for heart health and I think it got…
  • This is a really interesting thread, OP. I'm rather petite and have noticed a few things in the past year of MFP: (1) I thought I had to eat under 1200 calories to lose - BECAUSE I WAS LOGGING LIKE CRAP. (I'm not capitalizing that to point it out to you -I'm laughing at myself). I wasn't measuring or weighing and I thought…
  • OP, You're right about your recent comment that weight has a heck of a lot to do with it. MFP is free, insured or not, and you can learn a LOT about portion control, cooking, etc here to reduce caloric intake and overall help your husband with weight loss (of course he has to be on board, too). A lot of folks have found…
  • What kind??
  • That's an amazing idea!!!
  • I came back and the conversation was the calorie content of feces. WTAF?
  • Does anyone run it?
  • I would get the turkey burger because for some reason I've been obsessed with them lately. Or sweet potato gnocchi. Neither of which are particularly calorie conscious, but I would take off the bun or eat half if I were concerned about that.
  • Remind me again in August!
  • Count me in. You know I'm close by ;)
  • What he said ^^
  • I'm glad the VLCD was supervised. As for your current doc- she's wrong. Your calorie needs are based on age, gender, size, etc. you can't base caloric intake on just one factor (female) and discount age, size, starting point, etc. Also, you're supposed to NET 1200 minimum so when you're exercising, I hope you're eating…
  • That wasn't passive aggressive or sarcastic at all. For the record, some of us are having an adult conversation. No need to insult everyone just because I happen to believe some things you don't.
  • There have been some studies done in mice with SCD-1 and lepthin in mice as it relates to fat synthesis, but most of them are related to liver expression and hypercholesteremia or insulin resistance issues. It's interesting, but for obvious reasons, it hasn't made it to humans yet. Genome studies forthcoming, it's…
  • It would realistically be impossible to "see people like that," because you would have to calculate their TDEE and track all their intake to prove that. With that said, I've never seen science to back this up. I would think a deficit in enzymes of fat storage would lead to a condition requiring hospitalization and…
  • Gah. No matter what I say I sound like a jerk. But I'm serious - if you really excrete fat and can lose or maintain without having to exercise or moderate your eating, you're an anomaly.
  • They should really study you. You might be the answer to our world's obesity crisis.
  • This really doesn't stand up though. There are medications with the goal of inhibiting fat absorption and there have been plenty of threads showing that they don't work and cause AWFUL bodily reactions (don't believe me? Search Orlistat in the threads) If some people's bodies excreted fat this way, we'd know about it.
  • I would ask "what does?" But I know your answer is a convoluted guess. Again, not being snarky, but honestly - no such model exists from VERY educated people in biology, chemistry, math, fitness, nutrition, or any other field to prove that this happens - which says something.
  • All people will gain weight with excess calories. It's not magic. The people you are referring to are probably more active or burn at a higher rate than you know. If you calculated each of their TDEEs you'd likely see that.
  • Fat does not magically get excreted from the body in certain people. You were likely more active than you knew and when you were younger, your metabolism was higher.
  • This is going to sound snarky, but it's honestly not meant to be. If you don't have the knowledge of science to achieve such a model, how do you know it's even worth creating? Don't you think people who are knowledgeable in those things are considering far more variables than you have and if they haven't come up with it…
  • There is NO WAY you were logging accurately. You can eat more than 1200 calories (and absolutely should be) and still lose. I guarantee it. What you're doing is unhealthy.
