That is a wonderful cause! I actually run an ever every year to raise money for that cause. My friends and I are signing up for charity 5ks every month to do together. It feels great to know we are getting healthier while supporting each other. I'm about to do my first 5k in March. I'm a little nervous!

Turn and run away!!! Lol This one is very hard for me because I LOVE sugar! I try to have some fruit on hand because then the fiber fills me up and scratches the itch instead of empty calories with a zillion pieces of candy. I don't keep it in the house.

Oh- eat a lot of organic fruit and veggies - and ask your doctor to write you a script for a good prenatal vitamin for the folate and dha!
-
Good luck!!! You got this and you have the best motivation - to get healthy and have a baby! I lost weight before getting pregnant and I'm really glad I did because losing weight after having my baby takes a long time! I had to see a fertility specialist because of my endometriosis, and he told me the number one reason for…

Isn't that the worst!!!!! What about loading up on vegetables the rest of the day? Green beans and other green veggies have negligible calories and are zero weight watchers points.

How are your clothes fitting? I usually can't see a difference, but the people around me do.

Okay. Well, that was a little rude. What about the Harvard Health Blog ? POSTED FEBRUARY 06, 2014, 2:04 PM Eating too much added sugar increases the risk of dying with heart disease - Harvard Health Blog Eating too much added sugar increases the risk of dying with heart disease…

I drink a small glass of wine!

Don't be mad at yourself, be proud of yourself for taking the first step & wanting to get healthier!!! Have you considered seeking support and assistance through programs such as weight watchers?
-
Hmm, fair point.

Oatmeal helps your cholesterol levels too! I guess you could always stir in some pears & kit kats into your oatmeal. ;)
-
Sorry, didn't realize people would be so confused by "There is thought that pears help ward off cancer" -or need a thorough explanation as to why.

I like this answer best!

Oh goodness, yes, of course! Do a little reading or talk to your doctor at your next colonoscopy.
So what you are saying is you can't back up what you claim, got it.
Geez, this is an internet forum. Are you wanting me to cut & paste internet articles for regarding nutritional and health benefits of fiber…

Eat before you go- Good idea! 90 minutes without snacking. We can do it!

I must be the only person who doesn't like to eat or snack while watching a movie. I don't care if people do, unless they are noisy chewers!!! There is nothing worse than an open mouth chomper behind me in the theater- gross!!!

I'm contemplating getting rid of my air popper- i hate the texture of corn popped that way. Tastes much better popped on the stove! - I cut up a jalapeno and stir it in with the seeds before it pops. It makes delicious spicy popcorn! - You can pop corn using coconut oil too.

You must be on the cutting edge of research! I'll tell the people I know who study this that they are wrong and wasting their time- thank you! Regardless, I believe you missed my point about nutritional content. Plus, fiber DOES help lower the risk of colon cancer, so you are the one who is wrong.

Reading labels for me too, absolutely! I've replaced all of my drinks with water. Not eating mammals/meat, replacing with fish or tofu or beans (also eat meat substitutes & hummus) Eating quinoa and mushrooms!!! Cutting out refined sugar. Upping my fruit and veggie intake! Focusing on whole foods! An Apple every day, etc,…

How frustrating! I have to say pear because of the fiber! Pears have more fiber than an apple, flavonoids, vit c, potassium, iron, calcium, antioxidants, vit k, folate. There is thought that pears help ward off cancer! Kit Kats have, um , wafers? I guess if you're really craving one every once in awhile, go for it, but eat…

Great suggestions here! Google plant based sources of protein. Hummus, beans, Quinoa!!!!, buckwheat, almond butter
-
Am I mistaken, or did some people write that they think refined sugar is good for you??
-
Yes. I walk but I don't do any rigorous exercise. I've lost 15 pounds cutting down on sugar, not eating any meat except fish, and drinking only water.

Hello! Good for to decide to be more healthy! Oatmeal (from plain oats or low sugar variety) with fruit such as blueberries. Vegetables are the best thing. If you need to put them in something more breakfast-like you can add an organic egg. Red and green bell peppers, spinach, tomatoes, and mushrooms are great in a mini…

Man, you really love your sugar! I've never met a sugar advocate before. Although, I think I may have been one a few years ago just because it is yummy & addictive!

I was bummed to find out almost all yogurt is a dessert! Probably because we all bought into the advertising that it was "health food". grrrr. I've found a few plain organic brands I can add to my smoothies, but I do not eat a whole container or have it every day! Here is a funny article - 12 "health" foods with more sugar…

Apple & almond butter! I eat it every single afternoon for a pick me up. 2nd is probably humus for a snack.
-
I really don't like that feature very much because often times it is inaccurate with saying how many calories were burned. (It may say I danced off 300 calories, but dancing around the room with my baby is not the same as a zumba class!) I don't add in my exercise any more because it throws me off for the day.

I assume Norm is referring to thermodynamics, which is science. The body uses more energy to burn certain foods, which is why less energy is used for drinks and simple carbohydrates (such as sugar). Maybe do some research on thermodynamics, digestion, and sugar?
