  • I agree. Bring on spring. Hard to fight the hibernating mode this time of year. Personally I do find lower carbs helps a lot along w vit D. Getting out everyday as you pretty much are also shld help. I am in limbo til the doc gives me the go ahead so pretty bored and lazy right now. Good luck with your program. 8 weeks til…
  • Wow. Riding at night in snow fall. One of the few beautiful equestrian things only possible in winter. We too are considering heading south next winter. Do you take your horse(s)?
  • Thanks! February is always a long month but this one is going to be extra challenging. Already bored but iI move around my leg gets very angry. Must say, very jealous of your indoor arena. Must come in handy when the cold isn’t so extreme. It is on my wish list.
  • @chinatowninchina Thanks for your inspiration. Yes I have lost inches but no weight or inches since Novemberish. Yes I continue to stress but have decided NOT to weigh myself or do the ketone strips til next Wednesday and then to make Weigh-in Wednesday to be the only morning I weigh myself. Again, the positive support and…
  • @FIT_Goat Yes I am obsessing right now with the strips and the scale. I dropped pretty consistently from 255 to 219 from July 3 to beginning of Nov. Then started fluctuating up and down - 220 to 224 - and didn’t brake 220 again, then “enjoyed” two weeks over Christmas. Went right up to 233 (13 lbs in 2 weeks) then back…
  • Mon: Riding lesson 60 min. — Cancelled by instructor at last minute as she had her first physio which totally drained her. Understandable but :( Tues: Yoga 75 min — Excellent class. Mainly hip strengtheners. Class after ours was cancelled so she went for almost 1 1/2 hrs instead of 75 min Wed: Mini workout - more hips,…
  • Well now I’m really confused. “A ketone level somewhere between 1.5 – 3 is said to be an optimal level for maximizing weight loss.” — Diet Doctor . Com Dr. Phinney and Volek recommend a range of .5 to 3.0 millimolars to be in ketosis - found this statement in a lot of literature. I lost about 35 lbs from Aug until mid Dec…
  • Addendum - my instructor cancelled our lesson today as she had her first physio this morning and it knocked her out. So no lessons now til maybe end of Feb or March due to my surgery this Fri. My trainer stopped by and said it was way too icy here to ride so there goes my winter riding aspirations for the foreseeable…
  • Week 4 Mon: Riding lesson 60 min. — Cancelled by instructor as she had surgery Friday and wasn’t up to giving lessons yet Tues: Yoga 75 min — Cancelled by instructor because of ice rain and dangerous driving Wed: Personal Trainer 60 min — Great challenging class. Wed: Riding at home 30 min— way too icy. Literally like a…
  • Just sent the following email to GH: What is Keto - Jan 23/18 Very disappointed in GH for printing this article and supporting this person’s obviously biased opinion piece. It does not have any solid scientific evidence behind it and is based on incorrect and outdated information. It would be much more professional to…
  • @KnitOrMiss - never thought about it, but I did use witch hazel after I got the rash and started googling for info. Also, every morning for years, even pre-keto, I start my day w a face rinse and a coating of coconut oil (oil pull w the coconut oil as well). This probably helped with my rash and I wasn’t even aware of it…
  • All my carbs from veggies so I do net. Works for me.
  • I do 1/4 to 1/2 tsp No Salt (Potassium) + 2 tsp Natural Calm (magnesium) in half a glass of water every morning. Plus a tsp of Himalayan salt in another half glass (don’t like mixing together). Plus a dose of D. If I don’t do this I can get leg cramps plus I’m tired and foggy. Takes 5 min and sets me up for the whole day.
  • “ .... maybe I shldnt make plans .....” I hear that. My Mon lesson was cancelled by my trainer due to her recent surgery. I was going to ride here as it was only -5C but when I went out discovered it was -15 with the wind chill. I’m too big a wimp for that. Tues Yoga was cancelled due to ice rain so I’m guessing riding is…
  • I tweak mine depending if I need more or less fat for the day. Some days I am too lazy to get out the blender but it definitely makes a huge difference.
  • I had it right before Christmas (stress?) after being Keto for about 3 mnths. It lasted maybe 3 weeks. I refused to quit. Washed the areas regularly, covered in coconut oil, kept on top of my water and elytes and made sure I was eating every last bit of the 25g carbs I was allowing myself. Very glad it took care of itself.…
  • Week 3 What can I say. Man makes plans and God laughs :(. My first two weeks went quite well then life happened last Sat. Woke up to a flooded basement. We had a flash freeze Fri nite after some warming weather. The pipes the sump pump use to keep water moving were full of water and froze solid. The pump simply died. Sun…
  • Muscle soreness from low carb is often an elyte issues eg sodium, Potassium, magnesium. I do a mini elyte drink every morning which also helps w any fatigue or brain fogs esp if u r transitioning into ketosis. On long rides I take lots of water and elyte tablets to make sure I don’t get muscle cramps. Good luck w yr…
  • @kpk54 I do 20g carbs per day but they are NET carbs ie less the fibre. It is doable as the best Keto vegetables are high fibre such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, kale, spinach plus a few more. Try googling Keto vegetables for a full list. Tomatoes can be a little higher so I am always careful with those. I…
  • Vitamins def help but you shld try to get fresh veggies when possible ..... cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, asparagus, romaine, spinach, Brussels sprouts to name some top choices.
  • I have “breakfast” i.e. my first meal anywhere from noon to about 2:00 pm. I try to save my carbs for dinner so I often just have eggs. Right now I have 3 or 4 eggs scrambled w butter and cream. Usually keeps me going til dinner between 6 or 8. If not I have a bullet proof coffee or a couple of tablespoons of almond butter…

  • @kim_m_kk “I think I need a new doctor”. - I think you do too. Not sure where you are but doing some Keto research I have come across a couple of sights for on-line assistance and/or that list pro-Keto doctors by city. I posted three below as an idea. The last one is in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I know there is one in…
  • @kim_m_kk “I think I need a new doctor” I think you do too. Not sure where you are but doing some Keto research I have come across a couple of sights that list pro-Keto doctors by city plus I know there is a website dedicated to getting rid of diabetes via the Keto diet. I believe they also have a list. Good luck!!!!!
  • Went to my doc just after I started Keto. Was a little worried how he’d respond but he was very interested (he has witnessed my weight struggles over the years). He had me do monthly blood work for three mnths. Went to see him yesterday and everything was perfect .... or better. He was impressed w my weight loss and my…
  • I too finished the menopause thing but have not had any hot/sweaty issues before/during/after menopause or with Keto. I have friends who finished menopause who still get hot flashes and they r not on Keto. Having said that I have read that the Keto diet can affect hormones but usually in a good way. Be interesting to hear…
  • @maddog1769 AWESOME! This is EXACTLY how i do it. except i am super Low carbing Under 10, 5 is the goal with an occasional 20 Not eating for 16 hours EVERY day I feel has been the Key, Even with strenuous hikes not eating until noon has been great Most of My carbs come from 3 ounces Red wine which i even measure with a…
  • I log or I don’t lose
  • Started August. When I started and even now I focus on IF (2 meals per day in 8 hr window), fat n protein at both meals, carbs only at 2nd meal. Keeps it easy for me plus helps me stay w 25g or less carbs per day. I also track my calories as I stall if I eat too much. After 35 lb loss had to lower my calories a bit to keep…
  • Love a “gravy” recipe from diet doc. Basically, fry hamburger patties in butter n olive oil. When cooked add a tablespoon or two of potato paste and some whole cream. Stir. Yummy with cooked cabbage. https://www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/keto-hamburger-patties-tomato-sauce-cabbage.
