The knees over the toes thing... I've read that some people's physique doesn't actually work that way, and I think I'm one. So I focus more on keeping my chest and shins at the same angle. But I'm sure I have some room for improvement. I'll look into reposting the video from YouTube. Thanks for your feedback.

Actually, Fitness Blender specifically states that their calorie estimates DO NOT include any afterburn affects. I can't vouch for their numbers specifically, but I do have a lot of confidence in their knowledge and experience, and I know that by using the low number from their range and not weighing my food (so probably…

Really? Nobody? @ninerbuff ? @JoRocka ? @AllanMisner ? (I'm sure there are lots of other vocal, knowledgeable people that I'm forgetting to petition here.)

I found this by accident on the monthly display section of our library awhile back. The title and cover was too good to pass up, and I loved it. He said basically everything I've ever believed about mankind and food, but he had the facts to back it up.

My understanding was that any metabolic increase from caffeine comes when the body is not adapted to the dosage. So if you drink coffee every morning, I doubt it would make a difference. If you never drink it, and then guzzle some before a workout, there might be a slight increase, but like others have said, probably…

MFP includes a deficit in the calories they give you when your enter your goals and stats. So, without exercising, you can eat that number of cals and lose weight. When you exercise, you burn extra calories and should therefore eat more to keep your NET calories the same. However, lots of people on here recommend only…

Cottage cheese. :)

I just finished up their mass building program-- hoping to take my "after" pics and measurements today. I don't think I see a lot of changes but I KNOW I'm lifting more weight these days!

Somewhere on their website they have a video that explains this. Basically, that's the range of calories that (they estimate) will include 90% of the population. If you're a woman, smaller, or more adapted to that particular type of exercise, you will fall towards the lower end. Men, bigger people, and less fit people will…

I went in there as a size six and fit their size 4 capris. (Which I loved and which cost $90. :( Sigh.) Anyway, I'm going to say that was probably just the one sales person (who needs a new job), because I definitely saw a variety of sizes in there!

Congrats, that's awesome! You gained strength and fitness and lost weight and inches! You must be proud.

I have an almost 2-year-old. I do www.fitnessblender.com videos every morning. She plays now (with few to moderate interruptions) during the videos, but when she was younger I had to wait for nap time.

Me too. And there's kind of way too much bread and too many eggs there for me! I guess the actual meals probably aren't meant to be indicative of how we should eat though-- just the planning. (Not that we all need this kind of plan...)

Just chiming in to say: our stats are virtually identical! I am also 23, a little over 5'6", and hovering right around 140lbs. I estimate my bf% to be a bit higher than yours, but that's just from eye-balling it compared to photos and using random guesstimating from online calculators. Wow, you eat a lot of protein! I…

Thank you for posting this. My love of coffee (and faith in its benefits!) prompted me to go look for some links for this thread, but you saved me the trouble. (For what it's worth, I don't drink my coffee black; I use whipping cream or half n half, unsweetened.) Also, to the person who says black tea has at least as much…

My dinner plates probably weigh that much by themselves!

Trying to measure calories consumed and calories burned is always an approximation anyway. Of course people won't always get perfectly identical results-- there are way too many variables. Practically speaking though, you still need to eat less than you burn to lose weight, and TDEE estimates and 3500cals/lb is a good…

The most important thing for me is variety *within* my workouts. If I do cardio, I would way rather do a Tababa-format of various total-body exercises than just jog a few miles. Pushing through the hard parts is easier if it's not boring! If I'm strength-training, I would way rather do 5-8 reps a set than 10-15-- I get…

I just held a superman while using one hand to feel my abs. They were definitely contracting-- not as tightly as, say, a crunch or a plank, but still working. But I agree-- I typically feel it more in the back and hamstrings.
-
Maybe a trainer could chime in here if I'm wrong, but "core" doesn't only refer to abs: this is primarily a back exercise. Your back is part of your core, you know!

It's seems that hormonal birth control could either affect CI-- making you hungrier and more likely to over-eat, or CO- hormonal changes that could affect metabolism. I'm not an expert at all, but it seems like it could have some impact, depending on the individual. I'm sure it takes the blame for a lot of unrelated things…

That's kind of what I figured. I had been dumbbell squatting, holding them up by my shoulders, but I was starting to be able to squat heavier than my arms could safely hold, without help from my back/shoulders. At least it started to feel unsafe. I'll have to play around with a temporary solution until I have space/money…

Following. I recently picked up a cheap bench and extra weights, but no power rack. (The bench has the supports for the chest press, but it's not really the right height/accessibility to squat.) At least I can do real deadlifts now!

It takes time after a pregnancy, especially (so I hear) subsequent pregnancies, for your organs to return to their normal places, your skin to shrink, and some muscle tone to return. Some people say up to two years for skin to snap back as much as it will (and it might never be "perfect" again). Seriously, 8 weeks is…

Eh, we just like to whine. ;) I think we're allowed an opinion though-- the app is built with users in mind, right?

I think a lot of people feel uncomfortable doling out "medical" advice to someone they don't even know-- hence all of the "don't ask us; ask a doctor!" comments. The fact that your doctor didn't seem concerned with outlining calorie intake seems to indicate that it's really not something to stress over. Eat when you're…

I read the whole thing and it's good stuff. But this made me giggle. :D

I had to stop reading and gag at all the credit "Food Babe" got in this article!

Yeah, I pretty much hate the new one too, especially the new format for the macro/micro nutrient list! It's just clunky and annoying to read. Also, maybe I'm alone here, but I could care less about which meal contained the most calories. And I usually have a pretty good idea without a pie-chart breakdown. :s

I lift! I bought some adjustable dumbbells on Craigslist last summer and have been doing Fitness Blender workouts and a modified form of Stronglifts 5x5 with those. Recently I've been doing Fitness Blender's 4-week mass building program-- I'm almost 2 weeks in. Last weekend we got a little weight bench with a couple bars…
