The thing is, with something like the breakfast myth the late eating myth and even the meal timing myth they are all based on sound concepts. Then taken entirely out of context. Either by the uninformed or unscrupulous scammers. All three of those I listed are perfectly sound pieces of advice... That have nothing to do…

I have noticed some posts popping up on Facebook lately that irk me. They usually go something like ... One picture of a fast food burger and a soda with the coresponding prices and another picture of a teeny tiny salad and a bottle of water with the corps pounding higher prices. And the comment under is something like…

Checkout some YouTube channels dedicated to calisthenics, I like the "Barstars" channel personally. They feature both highly advanced competitive types and completely home grown individuals who display impressive feats. They also heavily promote health and exercise in their native NYC neighborhoods.

Before it was bro science it was just the way it was. But I think the misconceptions are what keeps many people from even trying these days.

A lifting belt can work to give you feedback, you will be pressing your abdominals against it to stabilize your core. One unique piece of advice I came across was to (and forgive me if this a bit graphic, but it seems to work) picture a string connecting your navel to *kitten* and draw those two points together. This will…

DOMS will kick your *kitten* when you haven't worked out for a while but it will quickly fade and if you are convinced that is what you need you will quickly be sidetracked in pursuit of the burn rather than strength or fitness. I suggest either finding another trainer, one with a sports background or a strength training…

It's part of the long established "feel the burn" "love the burn" culture prevelent in the bodybuilding world. And the cardio world. I had this EXACT mindset until recently, and I fell off the fitness wagon often because as I got fitter and stronger the DOMS got less severe and I began to feel less rewarded for my work.…

The basic compound lifts will naturally recruit the entire abdomen including the lower back. What do you do currently that leaves that area lacking? I'm thinking you might be doing primarily isolation work if you are lifting, issues like this tend to crop up when you have arm days and leg days and chest days etc. at the…

Unless you have an undiagnosed condition there's no reason you shouldn't be able to correct posture. If you are over weight losing will help a lot, I'm just 32 but with relatively little exercise or conciuos effort my posture has improved dramatically after losing 50+lbs. You may not need any posture specific exercises to…

Been there, went from 40-42 waist to 38 and decided to go ahead and buy some size 36 for down the road. It turns out that "down the road" was just a few weeks later. Now even my almost new size 36 pants will fall off without a belt! And anything larger is unwearable.

There's no such thing as "toning". You can build muscle and lower overall body fat. Fat loss is ofcourse a matter of diet, and since you can't spot reduce you simply have to continue dropping your body fat percentage through a calorie deficit until the fat on your legs is where you want it. building muscle however wont be…

It sounds like you simply love to exercise, nothing wrong with that. I would simply be on guard against taking things to far. Most peoplebon here have experience with taking something they love to far... But that something is usually food! I understand completely, I used to exercise at a high volume too. I used to do the…

Hey, a calisthenics based routine is fantastic and practically free compared to a gym. And if you want to integrate that into your life I would say go for it, if not then don't worry about what dad says. Everyone who discovers something that improves their life tends to believe everyone else would benefit also, but you…

Good job, I downed an entire pint of icecream last night, was still down this morning

Yes, yes it can. Particularly when in this case success and severe sickness or death inhabit the same space.

.
as far as pesticides go, DDT is not that toxic to us. It just has that nasty little problem of degrading to DDE then sticking around to play with your grandkids. Its invention and use has saved millions around the world though...
This, how many people that bemoan things like pesticides gene mod and other…

This, and I would certainly be more concerned with bacteria and other "natural" things that can be very bad for you.

One thing to remember is that nearly all produce will have pesticides, and that "organic" produce will usually have older natural pesticides based on the idea that natural is good. Many years ago when it was discovered that the then modern pesticides were linked to health issues some made toe move to so called organic…

My advice and I imagine most of the advice you will get here is for compound lifts and free weights. Even if you have very specific goals (body building or fitness model?) I would put single joint movements and machines waaaay down the list of priorities, just an assist exercise if you want more volume somewhere your not…

Search the groups, there should be a few that fit your goals and one of those will surely have people willing to help. I know there are groups for lifters, 5x5, women lifters etc.

I suppose the OP is on the absolutely no (sugary) fruit but hey where did this scurvy come from diet.
-
I find that once I have hit my calories for the day whatever food I ate to get there it's not very hard to stop there and pick up in the morning. What issues I do have are due to compulsion rather than hunger. Nothing wrong with it, just don't make it a daily alternative to a good diet.

I may have confused the matter by using the word "fit". In terms of weight loss only there is no marked difference between people. There are many variables that determine how much weight one will put on for a given input (wether that's fat or muscle) but there is a hard line where anyone (or any thing for that matter)…

Not only that but it's entirely possible the skin simply WONT grow as the underlying tissue dose without stretchmarks. Regardless of how fast or slow the process is. A guy I subbed to on YouTube once answered a question like this. First he showed off some of his own marks then explained that if your goal is to pile on…

If this isn't a ladies only thread... Yeah. I strongly identify as a bigger guy. 6' tall and atleast 240lbs most of my adult life. And usually pretty strong at that. Coming up on an even 200 now and sometimes I feel weird being this small. I think that's one way we get trapped in the world of fatness, we come to identify…

My biggest revelation was an average day equated to 3500+ calories a day. Once I was aware of that fact I easily cut 1500 a day without feeling remotely hungry. Cravings yeah but not real hunger. I'm just getting to the point where I really have to concern my self with macros and such. My base intake is 2000, or 1500 less…

I just portioned up some sausage into 2oz chunks for the week. Average Bfast will be 2oz sausage 2 large eggs, fried scrambled. Whatever. Mixing up the extras with some baked or light fried tater tots, peppers cheese frozen spinach etc mixed into the eggs. Like sour cream and salsa on the eggs and a piece of toasted…

I tend to be prone to rolling my ankles. But recently the right side of my neck has been killing me. It's something that has bothered me a few times since I first hurt it and my back as a mover. Got tired and lazy and let my self get into a very bad shape near the end of a job.

The thing is... There is very little meaningful difference between the genes of a fit person and a fat person. Genetic predispositions can effect behavior, but still how that plays out is largely environmental. We all have the same predispositions, the drive to eat the drive to conserve energy. Those were bred into us by…

True, the extremes were to illustrate the point, not a practical suggestion. In fact I was taking a jab directly at the "processed food is evil, organic, vegetarian, vegan etc is the only way" types. I regularly eat fast food, I'm just mindful of the fact that there are a lot of cals there and that I will likely not get to…
