Yup! I experienced muscle loss twice in my life - once when I shattered my leg and the second time when I did my ankle in. Both required surgeries, weeks of being completely non weight bearing and months of rehab.

Lol, no.
-
Huh. Tell that to the 75 lbs I lost through a combination of watching my intake and lots of walking.

I agree! Not weighing/logging works until/unless it doesn't. For some people, it always works, right through their weight-loss phase and into maintenance. For others? Not so much. In the end, your progress (or lack thereof) will determine which method is best for you to achieve your particular goals.

Bingo. <3

Intermittent Fasting is only helpful if it is something you can do without struggling *and* if it helps you remain the the required caloric deficit to lose weight. Other than that, there's no magic or extra benefits to doing IF, despite what you may have read or heard.

All most supplements do is create expensive pee.

Did your doctor give you any insights on how to achieve this goal he's set for you?
-
Why?

Assuming that what you've shared with us is straight-up and not embellished, please listen to your body, not your husband. As well-intentioned as he may be, he clearly has no idea as to what's in *your* best interests. Yes, some soreness and discomfort is normal, and it can be helpful to gently work through it after an…

The first time I actually weighed my beloved peanut butter, I cried. I still have it occasionally but gone are the days of just spooning it out of the jar!

I'm 65. I still listen, but with a much more discerning ear, now. ;) I also seem to have misplaced or worn out my filter somewhere along the way. :D

This reminds me of my mom getting me to eat stuff I hated when I was a kid. "Don't you know that there are starving kids in the world?" Always wanted to say, "Well, then mail this to them!" but I knew I would've gotten a smack or ten for that. :/

You might want to do a little more research on Fung. He's been widely debunked as a complete quack. Kinda like Mercola and Oz. ;) Also curious as to what these "other hopeful health benefits" are?

OP, get your primary care physician to give you a referral to a registered dietician. Something isn't right here, and I highly suspect it's the nutritionist's 'advice.'

I gradually tapered off of logging when I reached my goal weight almost 3 years ago. I then set a maintenance weight range for myself and still weigh myself several times a week. When I find that my weight is consistently tracking upwards (but still within my range) when averaged over time, I go back to logging for a bit…

One thing that seems to have helped some people is to use a good body moisterizer. Nourished, hydrated skin tends to be more elastic. :)
-
Yes, that stood out for me, too.
-
Choosing to be overweight because of a slight risk of loose skin is never the better choice.

Is your goal to lose weight in this process? Have you been diagnosed with an eating disorder? Some additional details will help us give you more tailored advice. :)

OP, first thing you need to re-think is the attitude about food having moralistic qualities of "good" or "bad," "healthy" or "unhealthy." It's just food. There may be foods you prefer to eat (for whatever reason) and foods you don't. That's different. Next is your insistence on being a true addict. This mindset really…

The only thing drinking ACV made me lose was my will to live. :D

Welcome to MFP, you three! The good news is weight loss is a matter of consuming less calories per day than your body can burn off - even when sedentary by circumstance. I highly recommend buying a food scale and weighing and tracking your regular food items and meals for at least a week. Not only will this give you the…

Sounds like she needs to boost herself up by putting others down. Life is too short to actively spend time with people like that.
-
Just remember that weight gain does not always mean fat gain, especially where women's hormones are concerned. But remember that if it *is* fat gain, it's simply because you're consuming more calories than what your body can utilize for fuel.

When I was in my weight loss phase (and now, over 2 years in maintenance) my go-to in situations like these is to say that I'm really full and that I just wouldn't appreciate the <whatever they are offering> right now. I then ask to take some of whatever it is home with me so that I can fully enjoy it the next day. Then,…

As always, a great post. <3 But I especially wanted to point out the bolded because I think it can be at the very crux of most situations like these.

I think there's a difference between using prescribed painkillers *as directed* under these circumstances, and under or over using them. I was you until I learned how detrimental foregoing these meds could actually be.

Make into guacamole, then use it in a wrap with diced roasted chicken, lemon, cilantro and a bit of salsa.

This is a very valid point that warrants repeating. After surgery to repair a shattered leg, I tried to 'tough it out' by only taking the prescribed meds when the pain had already escalated well beyond my rather high tolerance level. When I next saw the surgeon three or four days later, he was renewing my prescription and…
